Curry re-tears Achilles' tendon

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-raiders-curryhurt&prov=ap&type=lgns

"It took Curry more than eight months to return from the same injury last season."

Edit:  Check out Raider WR Alvis Whitted.  He looks good, and he's just been waiting for his chance.

Gabriel will be back soon, Whitted is in the wings, Morant is only a rook - but a good one.

These are only the other guys.  Keep the faith, Raider Nation.

Moss unlikely to play against the Bills on Sunday:

http://www.carthagepress.com/articles/2005/10/19/apindex/sports/d8dbbrdg5.txt

Keep watching.  And play Porter if this happens and you can.  Also, Doug Gabriel and Courtney Anderson could benefit.

Just don't sell the farm on this one.  It is not certain how long this will last (it is the AFC West, they juke big time).  More news when I see it.

Tonight (Saturday night) Randy Moss is being called a game time decision!  I cannot find a decent link, which probably means that this is either coach speak or one of those things where he will be dressed and in for about one play.  (This has happend with R. Moss in the past).  Still and all, the med results showed that he only had bruises to his ribs and groin.  If you own Moss or Porter or Collins or Gabriel or Anderson, I would watch what happens.

Just meant as a heads up.  [smiley=stilldunno.gif]

I think, "YES!!!"

Title: Re: Raiders In-Season Report
Post by Callie on Oct 24th, 2005, 5:29pm
I agree with Steg.  Like I said elsewhere, he finds ways to make things happen when he gets the chance.

Porter drops the ball and should probably sit on benches just for now (but should not be dropped!).  Also, the Raiders took very big hits to the secondary Sunday (Woodson and Gibson out with injuries).  That may mean the need will be there to keep up with the scoring of opponents, and that probably means more touches for Gabriel (especially while Moss is not 100%).  ALSO, the O line seems to be GELLIIN'.  Collins spends too long in the pocket, but now he may have more time to do that.

Keep in mind that Whitted and Anderson will be in the mix.  Anderson may have seemed less active this week, but he was very busy with blocking duties.  The Bills have a good pass D and a bad run D.  Anderson was one reason that Jordan had such a good day.

DB, this is total speculation.  But as Raider Nation, I watch my team a lot.

I've noticed that the Raiders have been doing what everyone else in the league who can are doing...surprises.  Maybe Turner has been taking Shanny lessons, I don't know.  But the Raiders have a whole lot of tools to play with, and their ability to mess with the game planning of their opponents makes sense for winning games.  It's just very difficult for FF players!

The thing about Moss is that he got hit on the head early and had problems.  What is that, three injuries?  Gabriel, so far, will be a guy who gets spotty weeks and big play options this year.  As for Moss, all along he has been doing big plays and then drawing coverage for the rest of the game.  Porter is always called a talented slacker.  It could be strategy, or it could be his realization that he needs to show up to keep getting the bucks.  The bottom line is that I didn't get the chance to see the coverage (no TV coverage), so if that was the issue I have no idea.  I do know that a lot of it looks like juking the opposition at this point.  Go Norv!

Raiders place Warren Sapp on injured reserve due to a torn rotator cuff:

If you own Kerry Collins, you better read this!

"Quarterback switch? Turner leans toward Tuiasosopo as starter"

"ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- Marques Tuiasosopo probably will get his shot as Oakland's starting quarterback this week."

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-raiders-tuischance&prov=ap&type=lgns

Turner said:  "I wouldn't have brought it up if it wasn't something we're considering strongly...."

This is not carved in stone and may have been said to light a fire under Collins, but with the receivers and RB the Raiders have, it bears watching.  Also remember, it could only be for part of the rest of the way.  But Tui may be worth a pick-up on spec if you have the bench room.  ;)

I don't have a link yet, but NFL Network just announced that Marques Tuiasosopo is the starter in Week 14!

This comes from interviews with the QBs Collins and Tui.

I can only assume this is great news for Lamont Jordan owners.   Tui should be able to hit him for several check downs, and LJ2 will get a lot of run action anyway vs. the Jets.

Title: Re: Raiders In-Season Report

Collins back at starter over Tui!

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/12/14/MNGKHG82P62.DTL

Tui didn't have much of a chance to show anything.  The O line collapsed on him all day long.  Tui is more moble, but he couldn't do anything with it while surviving that line.  In terms of fantasy football, now we're back to the bomb arm for possible deep strikes.  And Collins consistently puts up the yards.

Per the article, Marinelli is also a candidate for the Detroit Lions gig.   My personal opinion is he does not get the head coaching job in either place.

However, expect him to be a defensive coordinator somewhere next year.  He definitely will get that with all the league turnover......

Rumor quashed:

"Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan will remain with the team after agreeing to a three-year contract extension Wednesday, ending speculation that he might be tempted to bolt to the New York Jets."

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2006/01/19/SPGK2GPM071.DTL

Time will tell if this is good news or bad.  One Raider Nation camp insists that Ryan is always determined to field a base D with the wrong personel to do it.  Another camp keeps saying that he's getting it better and better, give him time.  I guess we'll see....

I wonder how many people expected to hear this.  [smiley=itllbeok.gif]

"Moss said Monday on Sporting News Radio that he would welcome Culpepper in Oakland despite the pair's differences during their final year together in 2004."

http://www.startribune.com/510/story/200845.html

"One thing I have come to figure out," Moss said, "is that this game that we play has gotten me and Daunte kind of distant. But, I think about reuniting us, or something like that, and taking it to another level. I'm not saying he is going to become a Raider, but if there was any interest in bringing him to Oakland, I've got my arms open to anybody who wants to come out here and win a Super Bowl. That's what I'm working for."

One thing I keep seeing from Raider Nation folks when they're talking about the possibility of Culpepper becoming a Raider - "The first thing I want to know is how Randy Moss feels about it."  Guess they don't want their own little T.O./McNabb drama.  ;D

Martz to "some quarterback (Culpepper???)" to Moss...  That's the buzz...  From "The REAL Feed":

Former St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz met with Raiders owner Al Davis on Thursday, presumably about the team's head coaching vacancy or another coaching position with the team.

Title: Re: Raiders In-Season Report
Post by Callie on Jan 29th, 2006, 3:56pm
Martz won't coach Raiders.

http://timesheraldonline.com/ci_3450527

"The Raiders are believed to be in a holding pattern until after the Super Bowl. After the game, they will probably take a serious run at Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, who is not available to be interviewed until after the game. The extent of Whisenhunt's interest in the position is not known."

And....

"There have also been reports the Raiders are planning to interview former New York Giants' coach Jim Fassel at some point this week, a report the club has not confirmed."

Title: Re: Raiders In-Season Report
Post by Callie on Feb 9th, 2006, 7:43pm
"Whisenhunt, Petrino not interested in Raiders vacancy"  EITHER!

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/02/09/bc.fbn.raiders.coachsea.ap/index.html

"The Raiders could also try to interview Baltimore offensive coordinator Jim Fassel, who led the Giants to the Super Bowl following the 2000 season with Raiders quarterback Kerry Collins at the helm."

Getting Dicey....  Wonder what Al has in mind.   ?.?.?

Well, Al does like his legacies:

"It is unclear what direction the Raiders will go in now. They could turn back to Shell, who had a 54-38 record with the Raiders and led the team to the AFC championship game following the 1990 season. Shell was fired after going 9-7 in 1994, a move Davis has said he regretted.

"Shell, currently the senior vice president of football operations and development for the NFL, had a winning record in four of his five complete seasons. The Raiders have had only three winning seasons since his firing and are just 13-35 the past three seasons."
