Title: Vikings In-season Report
Post by StegRock on Sep 23rd, 2005, 1:19am
Burleson out,... which should have been big news, but turned into non-news with the way the Vikes O has been playing...  But, all things considered, what they NEED is a spark.  Could Williamson be it?  This source on "The REAL Feed" thinks it's possible; he's at least going to get his chance:

Williamson takes the spotlight (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/wires/09/22/2020.ap.fbn.nfl.notes.adv23.1357/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (22.09.2005 17:34)

He's a "sneaky-good" pickup if he's available in your fantasy league. [smiley=sneaky.gif] ... [smiley=shiteatingrin.gif]

ALERT

Ciatrick Fason has been spotted getting fitted up for a game jersey!

With Moe Williams unlikely, Fason will be active this week.   He'll need an injury to MeMo to have any shot at an impact, but keep an eye on this kid.   You'll have him on your draft boards in a couple years.

Here's some news from the other side of the ball... from "The REAL Feed":

Vikings lose Udeze to knee sugery, timetable uncertain (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2177825&CMP=OTC-DT9705204233)
ESPN: NFL (01.10.2005 11:57)
Knee injury sidelines Udeze by Len PasquarelliWith their secondary already weakened by injuries, the Minnesota Vikings' defense has now taken a hit upfront, as starting right defensive end Kenechi Udeze will have surgery next week on his left knee.
The second-year veteran, a first-round...

Currently from atop "The REAL Feed":

Burleson, Williams each to miss another game (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/wires/10/12/2020.ap.fbn.vikings.injuries.0187/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (12.10.2005 18:42)

So, WR Troy Williamson's fantasy value remains solid.

I was about to report that this is an injury to follow...  BUT, then I remembered this is the '05 Vikings we're talking about... ;)  From "The REAL Feed":

Culpepper injures knee (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3987042.htm)

RE:  CULPEPPER...  From off "The REAL Feed":

NFL Notebook: Culpepper tears up knee, lost for season (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sports/2002596521_nfl01.html?syndication=rss)
The Seattle Times: Seahawks (01.11.2005 05:06)
The demoralized Minnesota Vikings surely believed their already dire situation couldn't become any worse. Then came confirmation Monday...

It's crazy to say, but from a fantasy perspective this might end up being a good thing.  I feel bad for C-Pep and all, BUT fantasy footballers from sea to shining sea needed a dose of the smelling salts regarding what to expect from him this season (and perhaps for some time to come).  This guy is just NOT the same without Moss.  It's time to face it.  He is... was NOT a #1 fantasy commodity anymore,... right now.  This injury will hopefully get fantasy footballers who have been depending on him to wake up, pick up the pieces and starting moving in a new direction...

Looks like Michael Bennett came in and took advantage of Moore's injury.  Any scoop out there?   [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif]

Not yet.  I didn't get a chance to listen to Tice's press conference yet, and no one is saying how serious MeMo is hurt; however, Bennett was supposed to be the feature of the offense going into the season.   The fact that he had such a great showing means, at the very least, he'll split carries with MeMo next week.  And if MeMo's elbow/wrist doesn't improve, he could take it over for much of the rest of the season.

If you have a junk roster spot and Bennett is still there, I'd grab him.

Oh, and, by the way, while I wish no one to lose his/her job during the holidays and this is surely a crappy way to "kick off" the New Year, I think this is the right move for the Vikings organization.  I look forward to hearing the response of some of our "purple people eaters" [smiley=viking.gif] around here, but I, for one, never thought very much of Mike Tice as a head coach.  He just did not seem to me to have the proverbial "it"... that it takes to be an NFL-caliber head coach.  He's just not a dynamic leader type, and I don't think he had a clue as to how to help sort out and properly employ ALL that talent on offense they, in fact, do have.

First off sorry about posting in the wrong spot :-X
Secondly Tice said he wanted to know about his future ASAP so Zygi acommidated him.
The lack of team discipline and very poor coaching was his dimise.

[offtopic]Ehhhhh,... kid, the issue of your post was NOT so much about its being in the "wrong spot" as it was our effort to consolidate "run-of-the-mill-ish" type news stuff onto these "in-season report" threads.  You just didn't know about that.  The fact is, other than our doing that, your post was in the EXACT right spot... in "the Red Zone".  ...  That having been said, thanks for having such an understanding attitude! [smiley=bow.gif] That's awesome... [smiley=thumbsup.gif] AND MUCH appreciated! [smiley=yes.gif][/offtopic]

Look for a new GM and head coach.  Money is on Eagle's front office guru Tom Heckert to become the new GM.  He will most likely turn around and hire Brad Childress, the Eagles offensive coordinator, to become the new head coach. (this will crush the Eagles)

[smiley=deal.gif]  Well, it's official...almost!

From "The REAL Feed":
Vikings settle on Childress (http://story.news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060106/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_mora_fine)

For my part, I like the move, [smiley=dancin.gif]especially if they keep Cottrell (no word there yet).  If Ted can keep the D playing well, and Childress can even do a sliver of what Linehan did for the Vikings O...and especially for Culpepper, this will be a terrific signing.

The bad...another candidate with NO head coaching experience!    [smiley=idontknow.gif] [smiley=stilldunno.gif]

Hey Philly, whaddaya think about Childress?

Just wanted to cut in and give a little background info on Childress from a LOCAL source that cover the Vikes on "The REAL Feed":

I like him a lot.  I think he'll really get a chance to shine in Minnesota.  He really took a backseat to Andy Reid here in Philly, as Reid was too involved in the offense at times.  Then they brought in Marty Mornihweg and he took over some responsibilities too.  I think Childress is happy to get out from under all that.  He's a really good guy who the players seem to like and respond to (except for TO, who felt that Childress was antagonizing him in training camp by saying hello to him).

He'll probably bring some of the assistants with him too, and we've got some good ones.  And don't worry about him not having the head coaching experience.  Andy Reid didn't either, and Childress learned a lot from him about how to run a team.
