Title: Saints In-season Report
Post by StegRock on Sep 23rd, 2005, 1:30am
[smiley=injury.gif] - This hurts fantasy footballers who might have the Saints D/ST or who is able to play individual special teamers/return men because this guy was surely on a roster in that, albeit unusual, case...  From "The REAL Feed":

Saints lose return specialist for season (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3980916.htm)
The Sports Network: NFL (22.09.2005 14:49)

The really sad thing is that that may be the last we hear from the 33-year-old Lewis, who has dazzled us with some fantastic returns in his day.  We'll see,... but this DOUBLE-tear is a rough injury.  It's not as bad as an ACL-MCL double-tear, mind you.  But, this is pretty bad.

Here is a link to an article about Horn.

Here is the applicable excerpt

HORN DOES, TOO: Saints receiver Joe Horn was involved during most of Wednesday's practice and is expected to try to return from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him the past two weeks.

He remains questionable but insisted he will "definitely" play.

"One hundred and 55 percent, definitely," Horn said. "Unless something ungodly happens."

Horn had been promising he would play the past two weeks, however, and he even qualified his promise Wednesday by saying later, "In my heart, I'm 150 percent ready to play."

Update - Three straight days of practice for Horn and it looks like he is ready to go, though still listed as...  From "The REAL Feed":

This week I'm starting Horn.  But I am also watching the Sunday pre-game reports.  The Saints have been good about announcing Horn as out in time to change your roster.  They have announced it sometime around 11:30 or 12, if I remember it right.

I didn't have that game, but we would have been better off if they had just said that he was OUT!   [smiley=annoyed.gif]  (I did start him based on the fact that he was declared as a start.)

Edit - I just found something:

"The New Orleans Saints had their top wide receiver back for Sunday's game against Atlanta, as Joe Horn started the contest after missing the last two weeks with a hamstring injury.

However, Horn appeared to aggravate the hamstring early on during the Saints' 34-31 loss at the Alamodome and did not play the second half. He finished without a catch."

[smiley=annoyed.gif] You got that right. I kinda' had a bad feeling about starting him...but c'mon it's Joe "Frickin" Horn!!!! You've got to start him when he plays! I was lucky that the guy I'm playing started Dillon, so he's gotta' be pretty dejected [smiley=dejected.gif] that a guy who was listed as probable...sat!  [smiley=chair.gif] Looks like I just eeeked out a victory this week. I'll take it! [smiley=fireman.gif] Hope you fared as well Callie!! [smiley=sunny.gif]

Not much of a link yet, but the Saints have announced that they are going to bench QB Aaron Brooks for Week 15.  Todd Bouman to start:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4781/news

Better consider this in terms of your Saints WRs as well.  On top of this, they face a tough CAR D.

And, another one bites the dust...  From "The REAL Feed":

Saints dismiss Haslett (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20060102.wsaints2/BNStory/Sports/?page=rss&id=RTGAM.20060102.wsaints2)
The Globe And Mail: Sports (02.01.2006 14:51)
Another head coach loses his job a day after the end of the NFL regular season

I am going to refrain from commenting on this too much as, for this team, there are extenuating circumstances involved that should have been and I hope were factored in, which severely cloud my judgment and feelings, leading me to think the opposite of what I think the right decision to in fact be.

Didn't you comment by 'reportedly' not commenting? :-X

Ultimately, the Saints did Haslett a favor by letting him go.  He had one year left on his contract.  Haslett basically asked for an extension or to be let go.   The owner let him go.  Haslett would have been a lame duck coach at New Orleans for his last year.

Ultimately, Haslett is in great shape.  He is all but guaranteed another head coaching job.  He is a leading candidate for the Texans job.  He will also be a good candidate IF the Jets job opens up IF Herm goes to KC.

Of all the coaches getting fired, he and is the most likely to get another HC job.  Tice and Norv and Sherman will most likely have to go back to being coordinators somewhere to 'prove' themselves again.  Mooch is the other one that may land somewhere.(Green Bay)

Well, here's one for the books (in both senses)...  From "The REAL Feed":

City council asks Saints to hire Doug Williams (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2286039&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines)
ESPN: NFL (09.01.2006 19:21)
Williams is city council's preference to coach SaintsNEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans City Council on Monday unanimously passed a resolution calling on the Saints to hire Doug Williams as the team's new coach. The resolution urges both Saints owner Tom Benson and general manager Mickey Loomis ...

Not that Williams would not be a GREAT choice, but doesn't the New Orleans government have more important matters to worry about.  I don't think I've ever heard of anything like this before.

And you wonder why the Saints want to get the hell out of New Orleans???   All the issues they are facing and they take the time for this?  Yikes......

The search is on...  Currently atop "The REAL Feed":

Saints interview Sherman, Martz (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/wires/01/13/2020.ap.fbn.saints.coaching.search.0405/index.html)

Not really what I'd call a "Star Search"... unless you see it like this... [smiley=stars.gif] ... [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif] ... [smiley=joker.gif]

Unbelievable that Haslett may be shut out of the coaching carosel.  Hell, the Lions are looking at hiring a defensive line coach from Tampa Bay over him.  (MILLEN is an idiot.)  I am really surprised he did not land a gig somewhere this year.  Even Dick Jauron has a better chance of getting the Bills job....

Oh well....there is always next year.  As many coaches may be fired next year as this year.  San Diego, Baltimore, etc. to name a few.
