Title: Eagle In-season Report
Post by StegRock on Sep 23rd, 2005, 2:03am
This is going to LACE the "Eagles Offseason Report" thread, I know...  BUT, deep keeper-leaguers need to start considering it now.  Currently from atop "The REAL Feed":

Unresolved contract issues still nag at Westbrook (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/wires/09/22/2020.ap.fbn.eagles.westbrook.1st.ld.writethru.0676/index.html)

Hey guys... I'm back from my two-week absence in Europe.  Getting online proved impossible, so I'm just now trying to catch up.

I have the last two games taped and haven't yet seen them, however it doesn't look like Westbrook is going to give less than 100% effort based on his performance against Oakland.  I would imagine that the Eagles will work something out before too long, despite the claims from Westbrook's camp that negotiations are on hold.

Westbrook situation steadily gets uglier and uglier... [smiley=zombie.gif] From "The REAL Feed":

Westbrook frustrated over use, contract (AP) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-eagles-westbrook&prov=ap&type=lgns)
Yahoo! News: Democratic Party (19.10.2005 16:36)
Brian Westbrook wants more carries and more money. Already frustrated by his contract situation, the Pro Bowl running back isn't happy with his role in the Philadelphia Eagles' offense. Westbrook has just 55 carries in the first five games, an average of only 11 rushes per game. Asked on Wednesd...

UPDATE on Owens... from "The REAL Feed":

Owens practices, upgraded to questionable (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3987735.htm)
The Sports Network: NFL (03.11.2005 18:46)

So,... really,... what do you guys think are the odds Owens hits the field this Sunday?  I say... 80%, regardless of the implied 50-50 odds the questionable status is supposed to indicate!!!

I read somewhere that he worked at half speed in the first half of today's practice, and he practiced at full speed in the afternoon.

I say 100%.

I'd say it's about 95% right now.  With TO, you always have to leave yourself an out.  He'll play, but it will be interesting to see if McNabb looks for his second option a bit more after TO's comments last night.

The article also says that the players' union will be notified.  I don't know if they can or will change any of this.

Here is a link off the REAL FEED:

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3988418.htm

I got this off one of my subscriber lists as well:

Eagles HC Andy Reid announced Monday afternoon in a statement that WR Terrell Owens has been suspended four games for conduct detrimental to the team and will not return to the team even after that suspension is over. His statement, "Terrell Owens has been suspended by the team for four games for conduct detrimental to the team," was first reported by the team's official website (PhiladelphiaEagles.com). Reid went on to say, "He will not return to play for the team even after the conclusion of that suspension. The league has been notified by the player's union that they will be grieving a right to take that action. Therefore, there is nothing more I can say at this point."

Anyone heard anything on the rumor mill about LJ Smith's availability?   I'll have to grab a TE on the WW if he sits.

All I know is that Smith did not practice on Wendesday and is still listed as questionable.

For the same reasons, I too need to keep an eye on this situation.  Let me know if you see anything new.

Title: Re: Eagle In-season Report
Post by Callie on Nov 10th, 2005, 12:41pm
I guess this isn't much, but it's the best I've seen:

"Nov 10 Giving him some time to recover from the concussion suffered in last weekend's loss to the Washington Redskins, the Philadelphia Eagles will keep Smith out of practice until at least Friday. The tight end, who currently is listed as questionable on the injury report, has improved over the past couple of days and plans to be in the starting lineup for Monday night's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys."

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6397/news

Sounds like if there is any change, we won't hear it until Friday or later.

LJ Smith expects to be able to go on Monday night.  I think he'll be OK (just a hunch).  The Eagles did re-sign Chad Lewis to fill Terrell Owens's empty roster spot due to the suspension.  Also, the back-up TE (rookie S. Spach) is hurting (foot) and has been struggling to catch the ball in recent weeks.

It's official...  Currently from atop "The REAL Feed":

McNabb won't play Sunday against Giants; McMahon to start (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3989762.htm)
The Sports Network: NFL (16.11.2005 15:15)

I'm really starting to wonder if McNabb will finally just end his season and get this surgery done so he can get to practicing early next offseason.  I also wonder how long McMahon will last.  He may have a stronger arm than Detmer, but Detmer seems to have better accuracy and a better (intellectual) grasp of the position than McMahon.  Granted he was put in a VERY difficult situaiton on Monday night, but still, when "reading between the lines of his performance", he looked pretty bad to me.

Title: Re: Eagle In-season Report
Post by Philly on Nov 17th, 2005, 3:06pm
McNabb is seeing a specialist today to determine the severity of his injury and to make the decision whether to further postpone surgery.  I would not be at all surprised to see McNabb done for the season.

Mike McMahon will be the new starter on Sunday.  Despite some of the snickering and questioning regarding his ability to lead the team, I think he will be effective.

Sure, Koy Detmer has a great knowledge of the offense, but he has no arm strength.  He is relatively accurate, but a lot of that is because he doesn't throw many passes more than 10 yards.  Detmer also has plenty of balls knocked down at the line of scrimmage and isn't the most mobile guy in the world.

Mike McMahon offers arm strength and mobility.  He has more experience as a starter than Detmer and he has a good grasp of the offense (remember that he came from a similar offensive system in Detroit).

If you need a spot starter because of injury, or are looking for a solid #2 FF QB, don't laugh... McMahon could be just the guy you need.  Remember, the Eagles throw the ball a lot.

Are you talking about McMahon here?  I thought McMahon looked good.  He moved the team pretty well.  He had a deep pass flat out dropped by Reggie Brown.  McMahon even said he saw Brown was tightly covered and purposely underthrew him so Brown could come back and get the ball.  That would have put the Eagles inside the 30 and probably would've won the game for them - making McMahon a hero.

He only threw one bad ball that I recall.  Sure, 2-5 looks bad, but one was the drop by Brown and one was a spike to stop the clock.

Maybe you need to explain what you saw "between the lines of his performance" for me to understand your point.

This could DEFINITELY have a NEGATIVE impact on Eagles' offensive players this week, especially McMahon and Westbrook, and especially with the former at the helm...  From "The REAL Feed":

So, Philly fans, Jeff West especially, how do you like this kid Moats?  (In your case, Jeff, not that you won't be, but, just to preface, try to be as objective as possible; I know you like the kid and he, supposedly, joined the draft site you work for, so... :-/ try not to let that taint your take.)   I want to hear what you think his short- AND long-term potential is. In limited time, he's received a couple concussions (one in pre-season, and another in his first start, on the opening kickoff).  Since then he seems to be running with a different frame of mind.  He appears to be thinking too much instead of just running.  He'll get some work (probably not as much as Lamar Gordon), but until he gets mentally tougher, he won't be effective.  So I'd probably pass on him for the remainder of the season.

Yes, he did join the draft website I work for, but that was prior to last year's draft.  I haven't talked to him in quite some time, although I probably should give him a call at some point to tell him to run like he did in college. ;) I hope my point of view was objective enough.   [smiley=twocents.gif]

Moats looked great.  I wish I could say that it was because I had called him and given him a good pep talk, but he did it on his own.  With his performance, he gets an upgrade of course.  I didn't think he'd get more carries than Gordon, but he did and will continue to do so as long as he plays like that.

On another note, why is Reno Mahe still in the league?
