Post by prm on Sep 24th, 2005, 1:46pm
:-/...i chime in here alot - let's see what you guys think:
rb: starting deuce
    #2 s. davis v. miami or t. jones v. cinci.???
(tds & standard yardage bonuses)
also:
defense/special teams - carolina or nyg...
(scores for tds, int, fumble rec, under 300 yds allowed, blocked kicks, safetys, etc...)whadaya think???  thanks,
prm... [smiley=borg.gif]

just read miami has allowed 7 rushing tds in last 6 weeks.  got to go with davis.  the defenses seem to be a tossup.  miami's offense is more inept so i would probably go with carolina, however, the giants defense has been stellar so far this season.  still pick carolina.

I'd actually go with Thomas Jones at home against Cincinnati over Stephen Davis in Miami.  Maybe they've given up rushing TD's, but they tend to be stingy with rushing yardage, especially at home.  Also, I think Chicago, with Benson waiting in the wings and team VERY invested in him in any case, is going to look to continue to "showcase" Jones this week.  Their bye is next week and Week 5 is when I would expect Benson to really be called on to step up.

re-using this in a spirit of non-proliferation ...

deuce, jamal, s. davis - need 2 help me pick'em
(standard scoring w/ yardage bonus)...
i'm thinkin' :deuce (despite a bad matchup)
and davis (excellent matchup )
not ready to trust jamal yet (even with a good matchup-see tn. game)...thanks,

I don't think you can go wrong in any tandem

I don't like Jamal...but I do like his matchup. Deuce is gonna roll!! [smiley=rollin.gif] He should see the ball 20-25 times and is a lock to get at least a TD. [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif] Davis....good for around 90 and a TD (maybe 2). Would be 2 TD's for sure...but I think Steve Smith will rob [smiley=sneaky.gif] one as he and Delhomme are on the same page right now!!!

By the way prm......Buffalo isDEAD LAST against the run this year!!

After ranking 7th against the run last year, the Bills have allowed 174 rushing yards per game this season to Houston, TB, and Atlanta. Deuce will shred Buffalo this weekend!! [smiley=Freddie.gif]

Flip a coin...  I'm with you...  Go with Davis and Deuce.  Keep Jamal on the bench as long as you can for now, i.e. until he does something of worth.  Good luck! [smiley=shamrock.gif]

ok - how 'bout wr - need 2 standard scoring & yardage bonuses:

right now i have s. smith (no brainer) and l. fitz...but i also nabbed galloway off ww because they have an attractive schedule for the next 3-5 games(and i needed an off-week fill-in)...what do you think???thanks,
prm...

Title: Re: wdIs this week..

tough call.  if it was warner throwing to fitz, i think it would be obvious.  detroit is so bad, galloway may be the pick.  but then again 49ers have injuries on defense.  based on that thorough analysis.....i say galloway.  but that is just my 2 cents.  go get them this weekend.  [smiley=towelwave.gif]

I say stick with the two you expected to be your big guns, Smith and Fitzgerald.  But, really, quality-wise, Smith and Galloway amount to the same thing this week.  So, again, get your coin out, bro... [smiley=twocents.gif] Good luck! [smiley=shammy.gif]

man, had to dig deep to find this one again...anyway:

i have found at times that the greatest cause for anxiety is too much CHOICE:
(standard scoring w/ yardage bonuses...)

i'm starting delhomme against a decimated arz secondary instead of brooks in a shootout (because i can't seem to trust him)
right now i'm starting deuce and s. davis - but i also have
t. jones / m. pittman / jamal (been a busy week - injuries, some back at practice now...i agree it's a coin flip between tj & davis - but now pittman is in the mix)... ?.?.?
i'm ok at wr (s. smith / fitz)...:)
no choice at te - conwell...:-/
or kicker - graham...8-)
or d/st - carolina (nyg off)...  ;D

just looking for a little extra eleventh hour insight or a vote of confidence on the ones i've chosen...thanks, [smiley=bow.gif]

i agree with delhomme.  lots of possibilities at running back.  can't argue about deuce and davis.  i would not consider pittman.  i think davis, jones, and lewis are pretty much a wash.  good luck this weekend! [smiley=havinablast.gif]

Agreed...Deuce and Davis except I would go with Jones as my 3rd option. Delhomme is a good choice at QB...but Brooks will be good too, GB's Defense will see to that. Brooks has that extra added "Hey look at me, I can run one in myself" bonus!! Which doesn't suck!![smiley=clap.gif]

Title: Re: wdIs this week..
Post by StegRock on Oct 8th, 2005, 2:54pm
Look, I don't like Brooks at all, BUT this week I'd go with him over Delhomme.  As per my picks on the "Fantasy Mirages (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55;action=display;num=1128564045)" thread, my gut tells me he is in for a rough week all the way down in the desert.  Brooks will have numbers one way or another.

At RB, you don't have a choice.  You have the right two in.  My third choice like BW would be Lewis WAY over Jones.  Lewis got a slow start is preparing for lift-off; Jones got a quick start, pretty much, and is ready to fall... and get replaced.  BUT, I'm wondering...  Is this the league you now have Tiki in based on the trade?  That was NOT integrated into/consolidated with THIS thread, so I don't know... [smiley=idontknow.gif] ... :-/ ... ;) (Read,... substantive lesson in thread non-proliferation if this is that league.)  Mind you, prm, I did appreciate this,

understood and agreed sir, this will remain the thread for all my league questions heretofore...and yes sir, i did nab tiki in this league (not an issue this week)...as much as it scares me, i will supplant jake for his former team-mate - with no small degree of trepidation (based purely on recent past performance) - which will spread my scoring around a little more anyway...thanks,

Title: Re: wdIs this week..
Post by Callie on Oct 11th, 2005, 11:01pm
Saban is smart, and he will probably go RBBC for now to see what sorts out.  Brown for now sounds better, but who else does this guy have at RB?  You say he is good there.  And for that matter, he may not be anxious to drop the Raven's D just yet.  I would keep them over the Giants and Panthers Ds for the season at this point.

The Ricky and Ronnie thing could be an RBBC until someone goes to another team, until someone crashes, or it could hold steady.  And for that matter, who else do you have at RB?  Oh, and do you get points for receptions at RB?

Just askin'.

Title: Re: wdIs this week..
Post by prm on Oct 12th, 2005, 6:20am
0 pts. for receptions - standard scoring w/ yardage bonus...

i can pick up benson off waivers - i have s. davis & tiki now...really just need someone to fill in on davis' off week & someone to be around WHEN he gets into his end of the year injury pattern...thanks,

Title: Re: wdIs this week..
Post by Callie on Oct 12th, 2005, 9:24am
Saban says he wants to use Brown and Williams on the field at the same time, with Brown sometimes playing more like a fullback.  That is supposed to start this week.

It's hard to say if Peterson will share a lot of touches with Benson and for how long.  Is Droughns available on the WW in your league?  Suggs is supposed to be out for awhile.

Despite my REALLY liking Benson this week to "break out" onto the scene, you GOTTA go with Davis, especially given the latest news on him and Foster...

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55;action=display;num=1129158079.

Also, there is this news regarding Jones's status for this Sunday's game, which you got to at least consider,...

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55;action=display;num=1129095710.

But, on the other hand, here is my ultimate take; I'm guessing my post on this thread might be one of the posts that you referred to that was "bolstering your confidence" with regards to Benson this week:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55;action=display;num=1129295788.

Still, though, that's for guys who need to play him.  You doN'T!  Play Davis and still hope Benson does what I think he will do so as to increase your team's overall value. :)

:-/...this could well be the last bit of advice i ask for this year...if i don't win this week - i'm finished...
i have:
brunell - that's it this week...
tiki - sounded great when i got him...
a. smith - gotta be ok against st. l...(right?)...(i could get stecker - but that's all there is folks in my league)
fitzgerald - warm & fuzzy there no matter who the qb is...
??? - need an off week boomer...
cooley  - i think he's better thatn lj smith this week (matchup)...
s. graham...steady...
nyg - defense (i'm as ok there as i can be...)
...my question is this...WR pickup for this week only (steve smith is off or i wouldn't be askin'...

az hakim vs st. louis - has a point to make but the exorcist didn't scare me as much as brooks does...
a davis - detroit's givin' love to wrs...
j. porter - the main man while moss is out...
d. gabriel - "sleeper du jour" this week???
e. moulds - not bad vs. oakland - but enough to win???
or i may could trade galloway for keshawn because my buddy feels sorry for me & he's not usin' him this week...

this is it guys, i need the most point production i can get from the position (standard scoring / yardage bonus <1pt/10 yds & +1 on 80+yd tds> whadaya think???thanks, [smiley=bow.gif]...

1) Moulds vs. Oakland - He has put up very good numbers since the Bills started running the ball more.  I know this sounds counter-intutive.  Defenses are now forced to try to stop McGahee and Moulds has been the major beneficiary.  Also, the Bills are actually on the field for more that three plays at a time now that McGahee has been given the ball enough to help the team move the ball.

2) Jerry Porter @ Buffalo - As you mentioned, he is the number one guy in Oakland for now.  It is odd that so many people are touting Gabriel because Moss's injury while Porter hardly seems to be mentioned.  Porter should put up better numbers than Gabriel.

People are a bit sceptical of Porter because, even with Moss getting so much coverage, Porter doesn't do any more than 70 yds. in any given game (if I remember that number right, but it has to be somewhere around there).  Porter also has a way of dropping balls. Gabriel is probably hit and miss for a good fantasy game, but given the opportunity he tends to make something out of it.

As for Week 7, the Raiders are facing a good secondary and a bad run D, so we may see more from Jordan than from Porter.

Title: Re: wdIs this week..
Post by lumber2121 on Oct 21st, 2005, 1:54pm
I agree that Porter has not done too much to date.  However, there has to be a reason why he is above Gabriel on the depth chart.  We will see.  I have not watched Oakland play much this year.  I am not a Raider expert so I would defer to those who are more familiar.

I also agree that the Bills run defense is poor.  This may have something to do with the Bills good pass defense numbers.  If you don't stop the run, there is no reason to pass.

Go with Moulds.

I hope you intend to still "hang out" a bit and participate in the forum so it still continues to exist (for you) in the future.  I hope your hanging out here is (more so) about enjoying the site and wanting to contribute to it and not just about what you can suck out of it.  You've been a decent contributor to "the Gridiron".  Whether or not things pan out for you this year or this week, I hope you can see through to the bigger picture and continue to "do what you can" so it exists for all of us as we press into the future.

delhomme (who's always gone nuts when i sat him) or brunell (a bad game was sure to come)...
fitz or galloway??? hard to sit fitz - i haven't yet & am rarely disappointed...
cooley or lj smith - the injury to cooley has me nervous...
anyway, a win this week could go a long way for my mental health - if not my chances for the playoffs...

delhomme over brunell

the panthers are on a roll though have a tough opponent in the bucs.

galloway over fitzgerald

toss up here.  galloway has been consistent.  fitzgerald will probably see double coverage.  looks like a quarterback change which may or may not help.

smith over cooley

with owens out, smith will get a lot of looks.

good luck! [smiley=woohoo.gif]

I beg to differ with my comrade, the Rick, on this one, I must say... :-/

I would go with Brunell over Delhomme in a close call.  Philly's D just can't stop the pass.  The Bucs can... though I think both of these guys are looking at good days.  But, I think you have to consider the old "cycles" theory here, as well.  Brunell is DUE; Delhomme shot his wad last week.

Double coverage by the Seahawks (still) doesn't scare me,... no less double coverage on a receiver the quality of Fitzgerald.  To me, Boldin's being out means MORE balls for Fitzgerald,... bottom line.  Not to mention, the Panthers pass D can be tough.  Fitzgerald is the play, not Galloway.

At tight-end, I do agree with the Rick totally.  Smith is a great play this week with Owens out.  As a general rule, I find that when a team plays against a great D with a good secondary like the Redskins, the tight-end seems to have a busy day. [smiley=zenmaster.gif] Keep that little ditty in your hip pocket for future reference.  I've been using that philosophy for many years now... to much success.

Good luck! [smiley=shamrock.gif]

Title: Re: wdIs this week..
Post by Oakland4life on Nov 2nd, 2005, 10:57pm
I would also go with Brunell over Delhomme.  Granted they were playing the 49ers, but they still didn't get a receiving TD last week.  The buc's pass D is the real deal this year.

Fitz is a MUST start every week.  Regardless of matchup or QB.  'nuff said.

And, ya, L.J. is gonna get a lot of looks this week with Owens out.  So, I guess I'm just reinforcing what the Stegman just said...Lol [smiley=twothumbsup.gif]
