Title: need help deciding on a trade
Post by captainpurple on Sep 28th, 2005, 9:08am
My roster:

QB - Hass, Favre
WR - SSmith, TTaylor, MiClayton
RB - Priest, Rudi, Mewelde, LJohnson, Ronnie Brown, Chris Brown
TE - Heap

I really think this is a solid lineup (especially before Walker went down   >:(  )  but I'm 0-3

I need to get another WR, and I can't get any owners to trade with me.  Two guys specifically need RB help, and won't trade for Chris Brown.   I figure with the recent Henry news, Brown is worth more than Marcus Robinson, which is the only offer I've gotten.   I'm trying to get more on the lines of Andre Johnson, Wayne, Roy Williams or Fitz.   No takers.

1)  am I being way too high on Brown?

2)  one of the same idiots above who won't trade just DROPPED BURLESON FOR CONWELL!!!!

I know that any RB I drop will be scooped up immed.  so I'm trying to get something for it.   I'm last on the waiver wire, so I have little hope of grabbing Burleson off the WW, but if I can, should I drop Ronnie Brown?   That's the way I'm leaning.

3)  should I up my ante on the trade for Wayne or Fitz?   Trade Mewelde for one of them and keep Chris "The Fragile One" Brown?

Thanks for the help!

Chris Brown's fragility is the most likely reason other owners are balking.  If you cannot get a fair value for him, keep him.   You may be able to strike while the iron is hot with Moore.  You can play up the fact that Moore only had one reception last week and it is a very good receiver.   I would float Moore out there and see what is offered.

It may be worth trading both Moore and R. Brown to get a very good receiver and a back up running back.

i think chris brown is quality trade bait right now, especially for people desperate for rb's, i dont know what these guys are thinking but i guess i gotta see their roster before i make a comment like that. possibly offer both browns for a good wide receiver? if you like c brown better than these people then keep him and offer them someone who they want (other than johnson). in my opinion i'd say he's your best backup because you know he's getting a start for the next 4 weeks, something you can't say about johnson, moore and r brown. Also, its not like henry was a starter in the first place anyways, they were splitting carries but if brown produces and stays healthy, which i could see happening, then there will be no reason for them to give henry a role in the offense when he comes back. if i were you i'd stay away from fitz, warner going down may hurt his numbers. although his entire team hasn't done anything, i still like andre johnson. they're revamping the offense and from what i hear the players are pretty excited about the new offensive coordinator. this is your chance to get a top tier receiver while his value is extremely low. Wayne would also be good because his value may be low now and we all know Manning will improve and when that happens Wayne will reap the benefits.

here's the rosters:

unwilling trade moron #1
QB - BigBen, Brees
WR - AJohnson, Galloway, Givens, Engram, Mushin
RB - Deuce, FTaylor, Shipp
TE - McMichael, Conwell
K - Vanderjagt
D - TB, Chicago

** note, this is the supermoron that dropped Burleson for Conwell rather than trading me Burleson for Chris Brown

unwilling trade moron #2
QB - Peyton, Vick
WR - Burress, Wayne, Fitz, Ferguson, RoWilliams, TWilliamson
RB - Portis, Julius Jones, Henry, Sproles
TE - Wiggins
K - Tynes
D - PHI

**not, yes he's still got Henry on his roster, and rather than trade with me, went and picked up Sproles!!!

I don't get it.   Not only can't I get these guys to trade, but they won't counter, or return email when I ask them what they'll give up.    >:(

you would think unwilling trade moron #2 would be kind of desperate at running back.  if he liked henry he should be up for chris brown.  i would think you should easily get fitz, williams, or at least williamson.  wayne may be a reach straight up.  not communicating has got to be pretty frustrating!   [smiley=frustrated.gif]

good luck this week going for that win!

Forget about dealing with moron #1.  He doesn't really have what you want... need, anyway.  I would say be a little more generous with moron #2.  Make him feel like he's in the driver's seat.  Give him a choice of Moore or either or of the two Browns for Wayne or Fitz or Williams AND Burress or Ferguson or Williamson.  Tell him you'll throw him back Taylor to "get the deal done" (in fact, you have to cut someone anyway; I'm sure it would be Taylor).  ...  Forget about Burleson for now.

Good luck, cp, old friend! [smiley=shamrock.gif]

UPDATE:

OK, I dropped Travis Taylor and grabbed Arnaz Battle off the WW.   I hate starting a RB & WR from the same team, so had to drop Taylor since I've got MeMo.

Now...Nate Burleson is on the WW.  Do I drop Ronnie Brown to get him?   On one hand, it puts me back in the same situation I had with Taylor.  On the other, Ricky is coming back and could/will cut Brown's touches, and Burleson is a top 15-20 WR.

Dropping Taylor gives me more flexibility in the byes ahead, as Memo and Taylor don't share a bye.  So I can get through w/o having to make a trade/move.   I could get by with the roster as is.

WW transaction happens at midnight, so need to know today.

Thoughts?

NO, do NOT do that!!!  Ronnie Brown looks like the real deal, Ricky's return notwithstanding.  He's just too worth holding on to right now.  You got to see how things unfold in Miami before doing something rash like dropping Brown (moreover, for a receiver who is currently out).  The window of possibilities is WIDE-open right now for Nate.  He may end up coming back and being fine; he may have set out on the path to selling insurance in two years.  He, as the new #1 go-to guy sans Randy Moss, and Culpepper weren't clicking before.  Why think that they will when he returns?  I think the future of the Viking WR corps might just be in the hands of Williamson and Taylor (who I always thought never got a fair shake in a weak, run-first, run-second and even run-third Baltimore O), mind you, two very complementary types of receivers.  To be honest, though I like Arnaz Battle's upswing and I do think he is well-positioned to have a great week this week, I don't like your dropping Taylor.  I think he will have a good week, as well, and may be better-positioned than Battle for the future (read, QB sitch and overall talent of O).  Anyway, good luck, bro! Yes, anyone who's listened to me over this early season knows I'm high on Taylor having a good year.   But I felt Memo was a more solid option as passing-wise, Taylor fights with Wiggins, Williamson, Burleson (when back), and both Robinsons for catches.   Battle pretty much has no competition outside of Lloyd.

Anyone else weighing in on a Ronnie Brown for Nate Burleson WW move?

[smiley=no.gif] i am 100% with steg on holding on to brown.  just had possibly a breakout game last week against a decent defense.  i would drop chris  [smiley=injury.gif] brown before ron.  you've got a little time before burleson comes back and i agree he may not be a sure thing after seeing the vikes score last week.  just my opinion.

Ronnie Brown had a great outing last game.  [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif]
If he does that again after the bye, then I see Saban riding the  [smiley=flamewar.gif]HOT hand and Ricky [smiley=bonghit.gif] seeing minimal work. Maybe a 70-30% split at most. Something like KC is doing with Holmes and Johnson. Later on down the line if it is apparent to you that Ricky will be featured then you move Brown. Just too early to tell yet!!

Stick with Brown.  Burleson hurt his knee, as I sure you know.  This is a tough injury to have.  It is not uncommon for a receiver to lose his ability to run sharp routes when hampered by a hamstring, knee or ankle.  It is tough to know what Burleson will do.  Brown if more a sure thing.  I do not see a lighter Ricky Williams doing much.

There's no way you should consider dropping Ronnie Brown.  Maybe you should float him or Mew out there to the other owners instead of Chris Brown.   Maybe I missed it, but how many WRs do you start?  If it's just two, I think you should be OK with Smith, Clayton, and Battle (for the short term at least).

Did you see him in pre-season? He looked sharper  [smiley=radar.gif] than ever. He also seemed to be less distant and a bit more focused and mature. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if he came out looking sharp! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
