Title: Bears In-season Report Post by StegRock on Oct 12th, 2005, 1:41am Well, rookie RB Cedric Benson may finally be getting his first start/significant PT. No link yet, but according to ESPN's bottom line Thomas Jones is likely to miss Sunday's game against the Vikings due to a knee injury he sustained this past Sunday. However, Jones's injury is not season-threatening. He has a strained ligament, not a tear or partial tear. |

Title: Re: Bears In-season Report Post by StegRock on Oct 14th, 2005, 10:33pm Update - RB Thomas Jones has been sort of upgraded to being a game-time decision. From atop "The REAL Feed": Bears' Jones game-time decision for Sunday (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3984516.htm) The Sports Network: NFL (14.10.2005 21:46) Fantasy-wise, this report notwithstanding, I would still start Benson and keep Jones on my bench. |

Title: Re: Bears In-season Report Post by StegRock on Oct 16th, 2005, 3:44pm Dudes, WTF is up with Benson? Does anybody have the inside slant on this... or any fairly informed take? I thought for sure this would be the week they'd test him out. It seemed to be the perfect week to give him at least a good test drive. |

Title: Re: Bears In-season Report Post by Callie on Oct 16th, 2005, 6:24pm Jones played. 89 yds on 23 attempts and 2 TDs. The ball went to Jones. Here is an edit to explain what I meant by that: "With the way Jones is playing, he's making it hard for the Bears coaching staff to justify giving first-round draft pick RB Cedric Benson very many touches." http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/chicago-minnesota-recap151005.php |

Title: Re: Bears In-season Report Post by prm on Nov 1st, 2005, 8:14pm [smiley=yikes.gif]...is it possible that they trade that sorry bastard - look, lots of big time college players couldn't make it in the nfl - and keep TJ??? right now that's the plan i'd have - didn't they cover their bums with his salary because he held out so long???... prm... |

While I see and appreciate both of your points, prm, the one regarding big-time college players who don't make it in the NFL AND the one regarding the fact that Jones has been solid so why would you want to mess with a good thing and let "money" dictate your decision just because it does not go with your original plans (think... the old "best laid plans" adage) and how you've organized your payroll, I think it's just a bit early to even be intimating that he doesn't have the right stuff to succeed in the NFL, especially the week after he rattles off a 25-yard run and goes 3 for 35 overall in a game, mind you, where Jones struggled a bit (his yards per rush were weak). Benson made a BIG mistake holding out as long as he did, but, make NO mistakes, this guy has what it takes... AND THEN SOME... to make it in the NFL. This guy's a prototypical NFL tailback and a BIG-time talent. Make no mistakes about that. |

Title: Re: Bears In-season Report Post by DB on Nov 5th, 2005, 8:24am I heard Rex Grossman started running this week and is targeting a November 27 comeback date. Whether or not he jumps back into the starting lineup right away, I don't know. I would say yes unless he is gimpy AND Orton has more games like last week and less 5 int. games. The Bears gotta be pretty happy right now sittin in first place without him. 8-) |

Title: Re: Bears In-season Report Post by StegRock on Nov 9th, 2005, 5:57pm RB Jones "questionable" again... From "The REAL Feed": Bears' Jones questionable (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3988699.htm) The Sports Network: NFL (09.11.2005 17:27) I think this time "the team will make sure Jones gets rest" and Cedric Benson will get his chance. Get ready for a GREAT ride, fellow Benson owners. A GREAT and what will likely amount to a long career is about to really, finally commence. (I just hope you all just mentally "fast-forwarded" through prm's comment above. ;)) |

Title: Re: Bears In-season Report Post by StegRock on Nov 14th, 2005, 3:33pm Whew... GREAT news, relatively speaking, on RB Cedric Benson, at least to us deep-keeper leaguers... with respect to his long-term future... From a LOCAL source off "the Gridiron Newsstand": "Benson out 3-6 weeks (http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/cs-051114bears,1,5128124.story?coll=cs-bears-headlines&ctrack=1&cset=true)" His knee is NOT shredded!!! Just strained... Not that big of a deal in the "bigger picture"... and, again, for deep-keeper leaguers who have him. Now, it's time to sit tight and chalk '05 up to the wind... ... This is actually a testament to the guy's durability. [smiley=yes.gif] ... [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |

Title: Re: Bears In-season Report Post by Callie on Dec 19th, 2005, 8:01pm Boy, did this thread get neglected! In case you aren't watching, Bears QB Rex Grossman is back. WR Muhsin Muhammad came to the Bears because he felt he could hook up with Grossman and do well. They did that in preseason, before another Grossman injury. They didn't have an entire game together in Week 15. They have RB Thomas Jones to keep the opposing D honest. They play at the Packers and then at the Vikings next. If you are desperate and can still do waivers in your league, take a look and think about it. Grossman is healthy and is the declared starter. That was always the plan. Just consider that a strong Chicago D could keep the scoring low, and Jones could get the points. But, HEY, if you need to know: http://www.forbes.com/home/feeds/ap/2005/12/19/ap2402970.html |
