Title: Packers FF-specific Team Report Post by MordecaiCourage on Oct 23rd, 2005, 2:31am by Ken Mesecher Time & Date of this Update (PST): 10:00 on Sat Dec 31 2005 News: Packers Week 17 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: Here it is, the end of a dismal, injury plagued season for the Green Bay Packers. Couldn't end soon enough! The Packers will meet the Seattle Seahawks this week in a meaningless game. No spoiler implications, no playoff spots, no nothing. The game may have a pre-season feel to it as the Packers may want to look at a few players and Seattle will likely rest many of their starters for their playoff run. RB Noah Herron had an average start last week but only carried the ball 14 times for 33 yards. He did have a touchdown however, and has a good chance to pass the stripe this week too. He makes a decent pick up for those teams whose workhorse will likely be resting or receiving only a handful of carries. Start as a low #3 RB. RB Tony Fisher will again share some of the carries this week as the Packers like to use him in 3rd down situations and Favre likes to throw the short out passes his way. He did manage to pull in 8 passes last week for 61 yards. Start as a low #3, high #4 RB this week. WR Donald Driver caught 6 passes for 107 yards against Chicago. He should fare as well against the Seahawks and may be the recipient to a Favre/Rogers touchdown pass. He is always a scoring threat. Start Driver as a high #3 WR. Antonio Chatman caught 5 balls for 50 yards last week. He will see some action again and makes a low #4 option in week 17. TE Bubba Franks is still listed as questionable on the injury report and likely will not play. TE David Martin is the current starter at this spot, but he is a risky start with a low #4 TE ranking this week. QB Brett Favre threw for 317 yards against the Bears last week but came up empty in the touchdown tally. He did manage to get picked off 4 more times though. Brett is a scary start this week. If he plays the whole game, you will likely see him throw the ball over 40 times in this one. That alone should produce nice yardage stats with a TD or two. The problem comes when he throws the 2 or 3 interceptions. Expect numbers in line with a #3 QB. Kicker Ryan Longwell has regained solid kicking form when given the opportunity to kick. He is a low #2 kicker this week. The Green Bay Defense is not a good start against the Seahawks if the Hawks are playing their starters. In IDP play, LB Nick Barnett should be able to produce some fantasy points for IDPers this week. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 20:20 on Thu Dec 22 2005 News: Packers Week 16 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Packers were routed 48-3 on Monday night by the Baltimore Ravens. The loss was the worst beating the Packers have suffered since 1980. Once again, the injury bug hit them, as Samkon Gado tore the MCL in his right knee. The injury ends his solid 2005 season. This week they play the Chicago Bears in Green Bay and will likely have another lackluster offensive output against the NFL's # 1 ranked defense. RB Tony Fisher once again finds himself in the starting role at running back. However, he may split carries with Noah Herron this week as Herron received double the rushing attempts that Fisher did last week. Regardless of who gets the bulk of carries this week, they will find it most difficult to find any room to run. Start Fisher as a low #3 RB. For the second straight week, WR Donald Driver did not lead the team in any statistical receiving categories. He should be the Packers only real scoring threat this week. Start Driver as a mid #3 WR. Antonio Chatman reamerged as the teams' leading receiver Monday night, though his stat-line would not suggest it. He and Robert Ferguson have not put up steady points as of late, and thus are risky starts. Both receivers are low #4 WR's at best. TE Bubba Franks is still listed as questionable on the injury report and likely will not play. TE David Martin is the current starter at this spot, but he is a risky start with a low #4 TE ranking this week. QB Brett Favre was benched for the last quarter of Monday night's game in favor of Aaron Rodgers. Neither quarterback performed up to par. Brett will get the start again this week but does not warrant a start, even in the confines of Lambeau Field. Brett is not a viable fantasy start this week. If you must start him, expect numbers in line with a #4 QB. Kicker Ryan Longwell has regained solid kicking form when given the opportunity to kick. He is a low #2 kicker this week. The Green Bay Defense is a good start against the low scoring Bears. In IDP play, LB Nick Barnett should be able to produce some fantasy points for IDPers this week. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 12:30 on Fri Dec 16 2005 News: Packers Week 15 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Packers won their 3rd game of the season against the Detroit Lions in week 14 action. This week they travel to Baltimore to face the 4-9 Ravens for a Monday night showdown. Not exactly what the network had in mind when they scheduled this match-up, but it should be a close game. Green Bay looks to win consecutive games for the first time this year, while Baltimore tries to avoid its first 10-loss season since 1998. RB Samkon Gado rushed 29 times for 171 yards and a touchdown last week. He showed pretty good break-away speed when he broke off a 64 yard touchdown run. He should be good for another hundred yards and a score this week as the Raven's defense is riddled with injury and teams no longer fear them. Start Gado as a mid to high #2 RB. For the first time this season, WR Donald Driver did not lead the team in any statistical receiving categories. He will get back on track this Monday and should produce fantasy numbers in line with a mid #2 WR. Robert Ferguson has not put up steady points since his return from injury and thus is a risky start. He is a low #4 WR at best. TE Bubba Franks is listed as questionable on the injury report. Stay away from him this week as his status is currently up in the air. TE David Martin led the team in week 14 with 5 catches for 38 yards. Not monster numbers, but the fact that he caught 5 of 7 passes thrown to him makes him a good start at the tight end position. Start David as a high #3 TE. QB Brett Favre had another sub-par game as he threw for a meager 170 yards without a touchdown. He also threw his 22nd interception of the season, two shy of his career high. Brett is no longer a solid QB play on a weekly basis, and should only be started if the match-up is favorable. I think he actually may have a decent game this week. If you start him, expect numbers in line with a low #2 QB. Kicker Ryan Longwell has returned, as of late, to his old self. He has regained some of his past "stud" status as he has been given opportunities to kick, and kick often. He is a mid to high #2 kicker this week. The Green Bay Defense is a good start against the low scoring Ravens. Start them with confidence. In IDP play, LB Nick Barnett and DE Aaron Kampman should be able to produce some fantasy points for IDPers this week. PLEASE do NOT post to this thread! Title: Re: Packers FF-specific Team Report Post by StegRock on Dec 16th, 2005, 2:27pm Time & Date of this Update (PST): 02:30 on Fri Dec 9 2005 News: Packers Week 14 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Green Bay Packers lost their 10th game of the season last week to drop to a NFC low 2 and 10 record. Brett Favre's streak of 26 straight games with a TD pass ended on the sod at Soldier Field. In march the Detroit Lions, bringing their 27th ranked offense into blustery Lambeau Field this week. They will face a Packer defense that has played solid football and is surprisingly ranked 8th overall in the NFL. These facts alone should be enough to see the Pack put up a "W" in the win column in week 14. RB Samkon Gado had a decent outing against the stout Chicago defense last week. He gained a respectable 75 hard earned yards and scored the Packers only TD of the game. He will find the going much easier this week and should be able to put up around 100 yards and a TD, making him a solid #2 play. RB Tony Fisher had a good outing last week grabbing 7 catches out of the backfield for 69 yards. Do not expect those same type numbers this week as Favre will find it easier to throw the ball downfield against Detroit, negating the need for short checkoff passes. Fisher is not a good start at the RB position. WR Donald Driver led the team with 8 catches, but failed to find the endzone in Chicago. He should be the recipient of at least one Brett Favre TD strike this week. Start him, as usual, as a high #2 wide reciever. WR's Antonio Chatman and Robert Furguson both make fair options this week if you need to fill a roster spot. They are both low #3, high #4 options at the WR spot. With Bubba Franks ' doubtful listing on the injury report this week, TE David Martin will get the starting nod. He will do well and is a high #3 TE start. QB Brett Favre threw 58 passes last week for 277 yards, no touchdowns, and two INT's. He probably will throw an INT or two in this contest, but should still put up solid fantasy numbers consistent with a high #2 QB. Kicker Ryan Longwell has been inconsistent this year. The cold weather will also make kicking with any great accuracy tough this week. Start Ryan as a low #3 kicker. The Green Bay Defense makes a nice start this week. As I mentioned earlier, they are ranked 8th in total defense this season. At home against the hapless Lions should be a defensive feast. Start this unit with confidence. In IDP play, LB Nick Barnett continues to be a strong play. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 19:40 on Thu Dec 1 2005 News: Packers Week 13 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Packers make the short road trip this week to the windy city to face their historic division rivals, the Chicago Bears. The Packers, still reeling from their ninth loss of the season, will try to play the "spoiler" role during this week's action. The Bears, winners of seven straight games, are standing atop the NFC North with a strong 8-3 record. This game will feature the NFL's #1 ranked defense at home in what should be a low scoring event. Regardless of each team's record, these two franchises always manage to square off against each other in tough, physical games. Expect some hard-nose football at Soldier Field this weekend. RB Samkon Gado rushed 26 times for 111 yards and a touchdown last week. He also had his fourth lost fumble in as many games. He was benched for fumbling during week 11's game in favor of Tony Fisher, so he may find himself on a short leash this week. It will be very difficult for any Green Bay RB to find running room against the stout Chicago defense. Temper your expectations here, and start Gado as a mid to high #4 RB. WR Donald Driver will also find the going very difficult. He is, however, the most likely offensive fantasy producer for the Pack this week. Start him as a mid to high #3WR. Robert Ferguson is a risky play and should only be used if you are in a jam. He is a low #4 WR at best. TE Bubba Franks was injured last week and is listed as questionable on the injury report. I would stay away from Franks this week as his status is currently up in the air. David Martin steps in as a decent sleeper start if Franks is out, but rank him no higher than a low #3 TE. QB Brett Favre looked horrible last week against a sub-par Eagle pass defense. He barely busted 170 yards with a score, and added two more interceptions to his league high tally. Brett is normally a solid QB play week in and week out, but I would take a pass on him against the Bears #1 ranked pass "D". If you must start him, expect numbers in line with a low #3 QB. Kicker Ryan Longwell should get a couple of oportunities to kick as this one should be a low scoring affair and field goals are a premium in these type games. He is a mid to high #3 kicker this week. The Green Bay Defense is a good start against the low scoring Bears. Start them with confidence. In IDP play, LB Nick Barnett and DE Aaron Kampman should be able to produce some fantasy points for IDPers in this week's action. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 15:30 on Fri Nov 25 2005 News: Packers Week 12 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Green Bay Packers did it again in week 11. They managed to lose another game by less than a touchdown this year. The tally....seven of their eight losses came by less than 9 points. Five of those seven were by less than 3 points. The Packers find themselves needing to win their last six games to avoid their first losing season since Brett Favre became the starting QB in 1992. A thirteen year winning season streak which just happens to be the longest in the league! The Philadelphia Eagles may be the answer Favre and the boys are looking for. The losers of 4 straight, The boys in Philly know all too well how the Packers feel. In week 11 action, RB Samkon Gado was pulled after fumbling the ball away and replaced with Tony Fisher. Fisher never really had an opportunity to regain his starting job as he only had four carries after his insertion into the starting role. Gado should receive the bulk of work, but do not be surprised to see him on a very short leash this week. Whoever gets the start here should fare well against Philadelphia's less than stellar run defense. Give the starter a low #2 to high #3 RB ranking. WR Donald Driver continues to be the workhorse in the passing game and can be counted on to produce consistently. He should put up decent numbers worthy of a high #2 WR. Robert Ferguson returned in last weeks game but failed to make an impact. He should rebound a bit this week, but should only be considered no higher than a low #3 WR. Antonio Chatman will fare no better than Ferguson will, but has the upside of greater speed and a softer match-up. He may break loose for a long ball in this game as a result. He is a risky low #3 start. TE Bubba Franks has been sharing time at his position, but should get more opportunities to contribute than the other tight ends will. Start Franks as a high #3 TE. QB Brett Favre has done his best to lead his injury-plagued offense. He has completed 65.2% of his passes and is tied for the NFC lead in touchdowns with 18. He has also thrown 17 interceptions thus far. If you are in a negative point per turnover league, expect a few negatives on his total stat counts. Brett is a solid #2 QB this week. K Ryan Longwell has rebounded a bit after his early shaky start. There are many better options out there, but he will get numbers worthy of a low #3 kicker. The Green Bay Defense is way underated and is not a bad start against the McNabb/T.O."less" Eagles. For IDP play, LB Nick Barnett and DE Aaron Kampman make good starts in week 12 action. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 18:30 on Thu Nov 17 2005 News: Packers Week 11 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: Well...well, look what we have here! The Packers have what appears to be a ground game! Samkon Gado has stepped up to the challenge in his first official start of the season, leading the Packers to a victory over the Falcons in week 10 action. His 103 yard, 3 TD game has sent many fantasy owners to check the waiver wires only to likely find him gone. If you waited till week 10...you were too late! Last week's performance makes two straight solid outings from the man they call "Sam". With a revamped run game, Brett Favre at home on Monday night, and weather expected to be in the mid 20's, the Pack may find themselves with their first win streak of the season. Samkon Gado has emerged from "nowhere" to become a solid fantasy contributor at the RB spot. He had 25 carries for 103 yards and 3 touchdowns(1 receiving) as the Packers rolled Atlanta in week 10. This week he runs against the Vikings who are giving up ground to opposing RB's at a 127 yards per game clip. Start Gado as a high #2 RB and start him with confidence. WR Donald Driver is a solid # 2 WR this week as always. Antonio Chatman may benefit from double-teams on Driver and should earn low #3 WR type numbers. Pass on WR Robert Furgeson this week until his questionable status on the injury report changes. TE Bubba Franks is a low #2 option this week. Favre will look his way regularly in the red zone. Brett Favre completed 26 of his 39 passes for 256 yards, a TD, and 1 INT last week. There is no reason why he shouldn't post better numbers this week against the Vikings, who have not only been suspect to the pass, but also will be without the services of starting CB Fred Smoot. Favre is a low #1 start at QB this week. Kicker Ryan Longwell returned to stud status last week as he scored 15 points. Temper your expectations for this week as GB will likely score touchdowns more so than field goals. Start as a low #3 kicker. The much improved Green Bay Defense is a risky start as the Vikings still have "big play" potential even without the services of Daunte Culpepper. LB Nick Barnett is once again a strong start for IDP play. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 09:20 on Thu Nov 10 2005 News: Packers Week 10 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Green Bay Packers have the NFL's worst running game to go with the league's worst record. They rank 30th in the NFL in rushing yards and last in average yards per carry. Those are major factors in their 1-7 record at the halfway point of the season. Coach Mike Sherman is now riding with three halfbacks who were literally signed off the street after the season started. The Packers have made a switch on the O-line this week in hopes of jump-starting their running game. Samkon Gado will make his first NFL start in week 10. He became the No. 1 RB last Sunday after ReShard Lee fumbled on his second carry of the game. He finished with 26 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown. Not that bad considering they were playing the Steelers 5th ranked run defense. Gado is a low #4 RB this week. Pick him up off the waiver wire. With 26 touches, he will likely be the RB with the most upside available. WR Donald Driver, the only percieved receiving threat, will surely see double coverage for the remainder of the year. He is still worth a start on your roster as a low # 2 WR. Antonio Chatman may see his numbers decrease this week as Robert Furgeson may return from his injury. Both receivers should be considered as mid to low #4 WR's and should only be used as bye week fill ins. TE Bubba Franks is a decent option against Atlanta as Favre will look his way regularly. He is a high #3 TE option this week. Brett Favre is on pace to throw 30 touchdowns this year. Unfortunately, he is also on pace to equal that amount in interceptions! With all the injuries depleting this team, Favre is being forced to try to do too much. He has been forcing the ball at times, and often has been picked off on deflected balls from an inexperienced WR crew. The answer? Look for the screen pass to return to prominence in the Packer gameplan. With this, you may see a slight decrease in his interceptions. Starting Brett has become less of a no-brainer and more of a gut check. Still, he is a low #2 start at QB. Kicker Ryan Longwell has fallen off the charts. A one time sure thing, he no longer has much fantasy value. Start as a low #4 kicker. The Green Bay Defense has improved throughout the season but still remains a shaky start. LB Nick Barnett is a strong start for IDP play. He should be in your line-up weekly. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 08:30 on Thu Nov 3 2005 News: Packers Week 9 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: In week 8 the Packers continued their downward spiral as the Bengals handed them their 6th loss of the season. The loss, their 5th by less than 7 points this year, clearly has this team frustrated and wondering what they have to do to get in the win column. Enter the Roethlisberger-LESS Pittsburgh Steelers! Though the Packers will likely slip further into the abyss with a loss, this game could be fairly close and has some benchmarks for an upset! Tony Fisher carried the ball 17 times for 51 yards and a score, and caught 2 passes for 7 yards last week. You can expect similar yardage numbers from him this week, but he may find it a bit more difficult to break the stripe against the Steelers. He should be considered a mid to low #4 RB this week and only used if you are in a pinch. Antonio Chatman led the team in week 8 in both receptions(8), and yards(97), all from the second WR spot. Consider him a low #3, high #4 WR this week. If he is still available on your Waiver Wire, take a flyer on him as he should contribute week in and week out even upon the return of Robert Ferguson. WR Donald Driver is still Favre's ace-in-the-hole and is a solid #2 WR every week. TE Bubba Franks had a studlike performance posting 7 catches for 72 yards and a score against Cincy. He should continue to see an increase in action as Favre has trust in his pass catching and route running abilities. Franks is a high # 3 TE this week. Brett Favre had a nightmarish outing as he threw 5 interceptions in week 8. He should rebound from that number this week and put up around 250 yards and a score or two. Brett should be viewed as a mid to high # 2 QB this week. Stick with him, as he rarely follows a bad outing with another, and Pittsburgh ranks 20th in pass defense. Kicker Ryan Longwell is having a mediocre season at best. His lack of kicking opportunities this week makes him no better than a #4 kicker. The Green Bay Defense surprisingly has had some success. They have allowed just under 20 points per game on average and have recorded 19 sacks and 5 interceptions thus far this season. For you IDP'ers, LB Nick Barnett should be considered as a very strong start. He has 65 total tackles and 1 interception this year. His interception was a 95 yard touchdown return in week 5. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 00:20 on Thu Oct 27 2005 News: Packers Week 8 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Packers dropped to 1 and 5 in week seven as they not only lost to the Vikings, but suffered the loss of two key offensive players. Ahman Green fell to a season ending thigh injury while Robert Ferguson is lost for up to 4 weeks with an LCL sprain. This weeks match-up with Cincinnati will test the Packers resolve and could be the perverbial "nail in the coffin" or the "springboard" to return to their winning ways! Green will be replaced by speedy third stringer, Tony Fisher at running back. Fisher is a decent bye week fill in, but should not be considered any higher than a low #3, high #4 RB until proven. The Packers average 24 rushing attempts and 9 RB receptions per game, so he could excel here. Antonio Chatman moves into the #2 WR spot vacated by Ferguson and can be considered a solid #3 WR when the match-up is right. He has produced decent numbers this season in a 3rd string role, posting 3 TD's and 186 yards thus far. Expect a modest increase in production in his starting role. WR Donald Driver is Favre's go-to-guy and is worthy of a high #2 WR rating this week. Look for Driver's value to increase a bit as Favre will need to lean on him heavily! Brett Favre leads the league in TD passes, but he faces a Bengals defense that only allows one touchdown pass per game. The Packers will likely be playing from behind this week, which translates into high passing numbers. Favre is a low #1 to high #2 starter at QB this week. TE Bubba Franks returned to action to post his usual average fantasy numbers and can be considered as a low #4 choice at the TE spot. Kicker Ryan Longwell missed two field goal attempts against the Vikings last week to move him to a meager 6 for 9 in FG accuracy. The probability that the Packers will need touchdowns and not three-pointers this week, makes him no better than a low #3 kicker. The Green Bay Defense is not a viable fantasy option this week as the Bengals should find their way into the end zone frequently. PLEASE do NOT post to this thread!
