Title: Quarterback advice Post by lumber2121 on Oct 26th, 2005, 3:27pm Hasselbeck is on bye this week. McNair is supposed to play but is one big hit from being knocked out of the game. Should I start McNair or pick up one of the following? D. Carr vs. CLE T. Dilger @ HOU J. McCown @ DAL A. Wright @ PIT K. Orton @ DET J. Martin vs. JAC C. Simms vs. CAR G. Frerotte @ NO If I pick up one of these guys, who should I drop? I need Bryant this week to start along side Branch. |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by MordecaiCourage on Oct 26th, 2005, 4:04pm I would roll with McNair....there's not much else to choose from lumber :'( ...but I would go with McCown or Frerotte if I had to choose one. McCown's the only one there who has put up any big numbers this year(despite last week's poor showing) but Frerotte has the better matchup!! After those two I'd go with Dilfer then Carr based on match-up only. In any case, drop McNair if you decide on switching QB's.... this was the only week you were gonna play him anyway and you can't afford to drop any of your WR's or RB's!! [smiley=fireman.gif] |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by StegRock on Oct 26th, 2005, 4:49pm Given that list, I would, like lumberman suggests, stick it out with McNair... An important related side note, though, I would NOT even REMOTELY consider Trent Dilfer... I think in his final start for the Brownies he is going to stink it up against the woeful Texans, who are either going to win the game (and pave the way for Dilfer's benching in Week Nine) or come damn close, but lose in a Frye-led comeback. That's what my [smiley=crystalball.gif] is sayin', at least... Good luck! [smiley=shammy.gif] |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by steelkings on Oct 26th, 2005, 6:38pm You never know about Mcnair. He's playing now...but when the game starts he's in a suit. With that said Id play Gus Forgot against the Saints. If for no other reason than it seem like every game the Saints play in is a scoring fest. Drop Mcnair at the last minute and pick him back up if necessary at your first op. Or ride the Forgot in the back up role. |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by rickgpin on Oct 26th, 2005, 9:37pm i agree with the above comments. i wouldn't drop a wide receiver or running back for any of the qbs you mentioned. i would expect mcnair to start...he does play well with injuries. if you have to go with a safe pick i agree with steelkings on frerotte and dropping mcnair. if you can't get him back, frerotte is a decent backup. good luck! Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by StegRock on Oct 26th, 2005, 10:04pm I just want to throw this out there... While I kind of agree with sk and rick that Frerotte should be a good play this week against New Orleans, I think there might be a little "situation" going on down in Miami like the one I explain about Dilfer, i.e., I've heard that they like Sage Rosenfels down there and, boy, did he come in and throw a sweet one to Chambers while Frerotte, meanwhile, was stinking it up against an eh KC pass D and it wasn't like he wasn't getting help from the running game via Ronnie Brown. I kind of see Frerotte potentially set up for disaster this week. He's been doing poor as of late; there's a guy behind him the team is at least interested in getting an extended look at and this week he is presented with a game in which he should do well and that they should win. If either or both of the aforementioned are not happenin', don't be surprised if he gets pulled during the game and we have a full-blown QB controversy next week down in Miami... ... Here's one LOCAL piece I just quickly found on "the Gridiron Newsstand (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm)" that hints at the "potential" for such a "situation": "Frerotte still starting (http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/football/12998432.htm)" |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by lumber2121 on Oct 27th, 2005, 9:23am What if I could trade McNair for either Leftwich or Brooks? Should I do either of these trades if the other guys agree to them? If so, which is better? |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by StegRock on Oct 27th, 2005, 12:41pm I personally wouldn't... Not that McNair is a fantasy stud, BUT Leftwich is a "fantasy Aikman", i.e. while a great NFL player, not worth much on the fantasy gridiron, and Brooks is a bum. His play is totally erratic and his job is surely in jeopardy. Again, I would stick with McNair. |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by lumber2121 on Oct 28th, 2005, 8:15am Steg, my back is against the wall as my team is 2-5. I need to win this week and probably the next five weeks in a row to have a shot at the playoffs. Hasselbeck is on bye so I am really just looking for a good matchup for this week. If, after this week, Hasselbeck gets injured, I am pretty stewed anyway. I need to take some risks to get to the playoffs. Otherwise it would be time to trade for next year. In light of my position, would you trade for either Leftwich (@ STL) or Brooks (vs. MIA)? |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by captainpurple on Oct 28th, 2005, 12:23pm You seem bent on a trade, but I'd still go with McNair. OAK is already a poor D, and now has Woodson and (safety, cant remember name) gone. With Brown starting to show his nagging injuries, and Henry with major rust from his suspension, I'd think the TEN passing game is where they'll make hay. I'd play McNair. If you really want to trade, Leftwich is you more consistent performer. He'll get you 1 TD and <200 passing most weeks. But I still say McNair will outperform him this week. good luck! |

Title: Re: Quarterback advice Post by tm20 on Oct 28th, 2005, 2:23pm If you are looking for a one week deal and will worry about QB situation wk to wk, you may want to go for brooks. Hes been good the last couple weeks and I think he could have one of his best games of the year finally playing in NO, against a very mediocre miami D. Leftwich could be ok, but as steg said I find him almost completely useless for fantasy and would go with Mcnair over him anyway. If you want to take a gamble with brooks its your season, I think it could work this week, but the bottom line is that the Titans Offense has the most potential to improve as the year progresses. They'll move the ball this week...and I think Calico may take a step in establishing himself in their offense. |
