Title: Fair Trade??
Post by MordecaiCourage on Nov 10th, 2005, 4:48pm
Please evaluate this trade for me. I am trading Jimmy Smith, Ronnie Brown, Todd Heap, and Antonio Bryant for Marvin Harrison, Tom Brady, Kerry Colbert, and Jacksonville Defense.
I have been struggling with Favre  [smiley=cheesehead.gif] as of late and wanted someone with NO surprises..hence Brady and I needed an upgrade at WR. The guy I traded with lost Priest Holmes and needed a RB. He has Curtis Martin, Bettis, and Pittman. So he really needed Brown. His WR's are Driver, Rod Smith, Andre Johnson and now Jimmy Smith. He also moved to Heap at TE instead of Heiden. Is this fair, considering the needs of both our teams? It really is important to me to be fair (relatively speaking!!!)  [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=fireman.gif]

Well, looking at the needs for both of you,  I would suggest doing Jimmy smith and Ronnie brown, for Marvin and Brady. That is a solid trade in my books.

Jax defense is starting to look up, and is a good play for this week, whearas Colbert is WW trash for the most part.

Antonio Bryant is starting to get more looks and is not a good trade for Colbert.  Depending on who you have for your defense, is probably the main thing I would look at for this "in mass" trade.

Hope this helps a little.

The fact is that I felt kinda guilty taking Harrison, so I offered Bryant for Colbert. I have Burress, Horn, Moulds, and Darrell Jackson also so Bryant is an after thought. Fgured I'd drop Colbert and get Rhodes to back up Edge anyway!! Thanks for the opinion..I guess I should have told ya'll my thinking process

I wouldn't feel guilty at all for taking Harrison.  Smith is the top producing (fantasy wise) WR in the league right now.  Just because Marvin is the better receiver on the field, doesn't mean squat in Fantasy Football.  It's all about the points.

If you feel that bad about it though, throw in Bryant along with him.

*edit* Uhmm...I had steve smith in my head during that statement.  But, J. Smith and Marvin are very comparible in the fantasy point standings.  [smiley=alcoholic.gif]

Ha... [smiley=laugh.gif]I was thinking that maybe you were drinking!!! [smiley=alcoholic.gif] I knew you had Steve on your mind and not Jimmy. I dove in and got the facts here. This is how each has scored thus far starting with week 1 and moving on to last week

Smith - 25, 4, 10, 16, 4, 3, 2, and 5 points 69 total
Harrison - 12, 3, 5, 22, 1, 9, 11, and 24   87 total

An obvious decline on Smith's part and a rise on Harrison's [smiley=fireman.gif]
Anyway...keep chuggin' O4L [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

looks fair to me...I'm assuming R. Brown is not a starter for you...The only question I have is when are your playoffs? Do they run into weeks 16-17? You know the colts will have wrapped up home field easy and will be resting...If that is the case I would try for just Brady and Jax D (assuming you need the upgrade). Would he take R. Brown and maybe a slight step down from Heap/Bryant for Brady and Jax D?

All that only if your worried about Marvin resting...otherwise it is probably best for your team to go ahead with that deal

*Playoffs: Week 14, 15 and 16 (6 teams)
*Playoff Bracket
Week 14
P1: First Place vs. Bye
P2: Fourth Place vs. Fifth Place
P3: Third Place vs. Sixth Place
P4: Second Place vs. Bye
Week 15
P5: First Place vs. Winner P2
P6: Second Place vs. Winner P3
Fifth Place: Loser P2 vs. Loser P3
Week 16
Championship: Winner P5 vs. Winner P6
Third Place: Loser P5 vs. Loser P6

Ronnie is a backup for me. I have Edge and McGahee starting. Williams [smiley=bonghit.gif], Brown, and Fisher are back-ups. My only real fear here is that one of my studs get hurt and not having a legit #3 guy waiting. That is why I will drop Colbert and get Rhodes to protect James. [smiley=fireman.gif]

The pared-down trade O4l recommends, Jimmy Smith and Ronnie Brown for Marvin Harrison and Tom Brady is fairly fair and much more tailored.  I mean all your (PHAT) roster needs is a bump-up at QB; you even admit that the headaches Favre has been giving you are the primary impetus for the trade.  With that in mind, if the guy you are trading with won't go with any of the aforementioned, why not just go for Jimmy Smith or Antonio Bryant (and perhaps a little sweetener to get the deal done) for Tom Brady?  I just think that the original trade you outline is unnecessarily over-inflated.  ...  Good luck, though, whatever you do! "It's a done deal"
"written in blood"
"etched in stone"
"in the books"                             [smiley=headbanger.gif]
"one for the ledgers"
"on a handshake"

and any other cliche you can possibly think of!! [smiley=fireman.gif]
