Title: Keeper - Trade ?
Post by kec6906 on Nov 15th, 2005, 12:56am
my 2nd year in 10 team keeper league.  tied for 3rd place in my division, 1 game out of 2nd & 3 games out of 1st place.  2 teams from each divsion go to playoffs.  this is my lineup:

QB: Green, Leftwich
RB: Jackson, K Jones, Moore, Parker, Gore
WR: R Moss, J Smith, Burleson, Evans, Wilford
TE: McMichael, Anderson
K: Elam, Tynes
DEF: DET, BAL

at this point my 2 keepers are obviously R Moss & Jackson.

these are next years draft picks i have at this time:

(2) 1st rd (position determined by team records at end of season - worst record gets 1st pick, best record gets 10th pick and snakes backward for second rd)
(1) 2nd rd (position determined by team records at end of season)
(2) 3rd rd (2nd  & 6th pick)
(0) 4th rd (none)
(1) 5th (9th pick)
(1) each in 6th thru 16th (various positions)

1) was offered Larry Johnson for my lower 1st rd pick.

2) was offered Larry Johnson & 4th rd pick for Parker & my lower 1st rd pick.

is he worth it?  i could still make a run for the playoffs this year plus i could even trade out one of my 4 viable keepers (Jackson, R Moss, K Jones, L Johnson) for another high draft pick.

any thoughts??

thanks.  KC.  Go Eagles!!  [smiley=thumbsdown.gif] [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]  Where's TO, one of the best WR in the league?  Oh, he's suspended for talking bad about his team and hurting peoples feelings  [smiley=crybaby.gif]  still my team but going nowhere w/o my man TO!  nice pass McNabb!

I'd take trade #2. You are getting an extra pick out of the deal for as player you have no intention of keeping.

Assuming that you make the playoffs (and only four teams make the playoffs) you would have at worst the fourth pick in the second round to go along with a later first round pick.  This would not be a horrible position.

However, it would be awfully nice to have Jackson, Moss and three of the top 14 picks.  That would create a really solid foundation, even if one of those picks does not pan out.  This is a very attractive scenario.

From the looks of your team, you would have a very strong chance to win with Jackson and Johnson in the same backfield.  So the trade would definitely help you this year.  Additionally, you would start next year with some very good draft picks and Johnson and Jackson, assuming that Johnson will be the guy in Kansas City next year.

Even if you would rather protect Jackson and Moss, you could probably trade Johnson in the offseason for another good pick.

Go for the second option.  This could put you in a very good position for this year and next.
