Title: Texans FF-specific Team Report Post by MordecaiCourage on Nov 25th, 2005, 7:05pm by Ken Mesecher Time & Date of this Update (PST): 11:00 on Thu Dec 31 2005 News: Texans Week 17 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Houston Texans are smack dab in the middle of the Reggie Bush Bowl! According to team sources..they are flat out insulted at the implication that they would throw any game. Have you seen their last 4 games? They are not kidding, they have played very solid football as of late and I think they will be playing to win this week as well. RB Domanick Davis and Jonathon Wells are both out for the season. In comes Vernand Morency. He has Domanick Davis type skills and will likely shred the SF defense this week. If you are in need of a running back, here's a good replacement. Start him as a low #2 RB. Andre Johnson had a great game last week hauling in 9 catches for 119 yards and a TD. Look for more of the same as he and Carr are clicking at the moment. Start as a low #1 WR. Corey Bradford also woke up last week and posted 101 yards and a TD. He is not consistent enough to start but may have similar stats this week against the hapless 49ers. Start as a low #3 WR. TE Mark Bruener is a no start. QB David Carr went 19 of 29 for 295 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Jaguars last week. Not at all bad for a QB that is supposed to be laying down for the Bush sweepstakes. He is a high #2 QB this week. K Kris Brown is a good start and can be relied on to put up numbers consistent with a # 2 kicker. The Houston Texans Defense may be a good start this week against the Niners, less than stellar offense. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 20:40 on Thu Dec 22 2005 News: Texans Week 16 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars will meet in week 16, as the improving Texans hope to play the spoiler. The Texans layed down an old fashioned butt whooping on the Cards last week (long time coming) for their second victory of the season. There is no reason to think that the Texans will repeat their winning pattern against a pretty solid Jaguar team. Expect a new losing streak to begin Saturday afternoon. RB Domanick Davis did not play last week due to a knee injury. Check his status prior to gametime Saturday, as he is still listed as questionable on the report. If he plays, he will be a solid #2 RB. Jonathon Wells will get the start if Dom can't go. Wells carried the ball 28 times for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns last week in replacement of Davis. He will not find that kind of success against Jacksonville, but may get another touchdown on 50 to 60 yards rushing, making him a mid to high #3 RB. WR Andre Johnson (probable on the injury list) led the team in receptions and yards last week. His output in yardage was low at 51 yards, but he remains Houston's best receiver and can be counted on as a decent #3 WR this week. WR's Jabar Gaffney and Corey Bradford are both low #4 starts at best. Avoid them both. TE Mark Bruener has not been a viable fantasy option and is a no play. QB David Carr was so-so in his teams win last Sunday. It was the running game and a surprisingly stout defense that pushed the team to it's second win of the season. Look elsewhere for help at the quarterback position as he will give you more mediocracy. He is a low #4 QB this week. K Kris Brown does a good job when he gets the opportunity to kick. He may fair well as I expect the Texans will move the ball a bit, but stall drives just inside his range as usual. He is a fair start and can be used as a low #2 kicker. The Houston Texans Defense put on a clinic last week, but is not consistent enough to rate a start. They are not a wise fantasy choice as a team or individually in IDP leagues. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 07:00 on Fri Dec 16 2005 News: Texans Week 15 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals will meet in week 15 for the first time in franchise history. The Texans have lost six straight games, including the last three by a combined 10 points, and on the last possession of each game. Last week, Kris Brown hooked a 31 yard field goal wide left as time expired to give Houston a 13-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Expect another loss at the hands of the 4-9 Cardinals this week as the run for Reggie Bush sweepstakes continues! RB Domanick Davis is averaging 119 yards of total offense per game. That total is almost half of Houston's season average of 242 yards per game. He had 139 yards rushing on 22 carries against Tennessee last week. He also hauled in 7 catches for 50 yards and a score. This week he will be facing the 15th ranked Arizona "D" and should be able to produce at his normal pace. He is Houston's only lock for a score and should be started as a high #2 RB. Watch the pregame show on him as he is listed as questionable with a knee injury. WR Andre Johnson caught only 3 balls last week for a paltry 27 yards. Sad! He should get back on track against the Cardinals. Start him as a mid to high #3 WR this week. WR's Jabar Gaffney and Corey Bradford are both mid #5 starts at best. Avoid them, as their tendency is to trade off weekly from mediocre to terrible. TE Mark Bruener has not been a viable fantasy option and is a no play. QB David Carr had another terrible game in week 14. He completed 17 of 26 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. Even with Houston's favorable match-up on Sunday, I cannot advise starting him. He is a low #4 QB this week. K Kris Brown does a good job when he gets the opportunity to kick. I think this week will be one of those weeks that he is called upon to boot a couple through. He is a fair start and can be used as a low #2 kicker. The Houston Texans Defense is not a wise fantasy choice as a team or individually in IDP leagues. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 08:00 on Fri Dec 09 2005 News: Texans Week 14 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Houston Texans have blown their chance to win the last 2 games in the final minute. In week 12 they blew a 24-3 halftime lead over the Rams, only to lose in OT. In week 13 they lost to the Ravens after leading with less than 1 minute left in the game and the ball deep in the Ravens own territory. With the exception of Domanick Davis and Kris Brown, the Texan offensive output was anemic. The Texans will get yet another chance at their elusive 2nd win as they travel to Tennessee to play the Titans. The Titans, who are also struggling this season with 3 wins in 12 games, will likely subdue the Texans into their 12th loss of the season, leaving them the clear front runner in the Reggie Bush race. RB Domanick Davis had 155 rushing and 17 receiving yards last week. Not a bad tally against the Ravens defense. This week he will be facing the Titans 13th ranked "D" and should be able to produce at his normal pace. He will likely get a score this week and should be started as a high #2 RB. WR Andre Johnson caught only 4 balls last week but managed to grind out 70 tough yards. He will continue to be David Carr's focal point in the Texans passing game. Start him as a high #3 WR this week. WR Jabar Gaffney actually caught 2 more balls than Johnson did last week, but was used as a checkdown receiver. As a result, he had 30 fewer receiving yards. WR Corey Bradford was held without a catch. Normally they receive about the same attention from David Carr weekly. Neither receiver is a good option for fantasy play and should rank no higher than a #4 WR. If you are hurting and need to pick and start one, go with Gaffney. TE Mark Bruener has not been a viable fantasy option and is a no play. QB David Carr completed 17 of 37 passes for 165 yards, no touchdowns, and 1 interception in week 13. With a middle-of-the-road match-up this weekend, he may put up a few more points than normal, but he is still a low #3 QB at best this week. Kicker Kris Brown had a great game against the Ravens scoring all 15 of the Texans points. He was a perfect 5 of 5 in field goals. He is a fair start this week and can be used as a low #2 kicker. The Houston Texans Defense is not a wise fantasy choice as a team or individually in IDP leagues. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 20:00 on Thu Dec 1 2005 News: Texans Week 13 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Houston Texans have to be emotionally devastated after blowing their 24-3 halftime lead over the Rams in week 12. Houston lost in overtime on a 56 yard catch and run by Kevin Curtis. The Texan offensive output was clicking on all cylinders for the first 30 minutes of the game. Unfortunately for them, NFL games are 60 minutes in length, or in this case with the OT, just a bit longer. The hapless Texans will get another chance at that all elusive 2nd win as they travel to Baltimore to play the Ravens. Baltimore will throw their 7th ranked defense in Houston's face and likely muscle the Texans into their 11th loss of the season. RB Domanick Davis had 120 combined yards and a TD last week. He will be facing a tougher Ravens "D" this week and will find it much harder to run. He should get the lone Texan score this week and should be started no higher than a low #2 RB. WR Andre Johnson also had a big output last week pulling down 12 catches for 159 yards and a score. He will continue getting the majority of looks in the Texans passing game. Start him as a mid to high #3 WR this week. WR's Jabar Gaffney and Corey Bradford recieve about the same attention from David Carr weekly. Neither reciever is a good option for fantasy play and should rank no higher than a low #4 WR. TE Mark Bruener has not been a viable fantasy option and is a no play. QB David Carr is facing the NFL's 9th ranked pass defense in the Baltimore Ravens. Last week, David completed 25 of 34 passes for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns, by far his best fantasy output of the season. If you were one of those owners who was smart enough to pull him out, dust him off, and start him, now is the time to use those same smarts to bench him. He may put a few fantasy points up this week, but nowhere close to last weeks anomaly. He is a mid #4 QB at best. The Texans offense will struggle to even get into Raven's territory, thus, kicker Kris Brown may not get many chances to shine. He does not make a good start this week. Start him as a low #4 kicker. The Houston Texans Defense is usually not a wise fantasy choice as a team or individually in IDP leagues. However, if you were ever going to use them as your team "D", this week would probably be your safest bet to do so. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 07:20 on Sat Nov 26 2005 News: Texans Week 12 Fantasy Impact Fantasy Football Slant: The Houston Texans will face the St. Louis Rams at Reliant Stadium in Houston this weekend. Even without the services of QB Mark Bulger, the Rams should have no problem waltzing in and taking this one. The Texan offensive output has been anemic to say the least. The passing game is the # 1 culprit for the teams 1 and 9 record. The lack of scoring and maintaining drives can be directly attributed to the fact that they put up a paltry 115 yards passing per game. The running game has taken an upturn in recent weeks with a healthier Domanick Davis back in the starting lineup and ranks 18th in the league, averaging 107 yards per game. RB Domanick Davis has been the lone bright spot for the Texans' offense this season. He will be facing a soft Rams "D" this week and should be able to run and catch effectively. Expect numbers consistent with a mid to high #2 RB. WR Andre Johnson has come on a bit as of late, but is still inconsistent. However, he does get the majority of looks in the Texans passing game. He should be able to produce something from the Rams 30th ranked pass "D", but temper your expectations a bit as the current trend in Houston is to implode on any good drive they may actually have. Start him as a mid to high #3 WR this week. WR's Jabar Gaffney and Corey Bradford are receiving about the same attention from David Carr week-in and week-out. Neither reciever is a good option for fantasy play and should rank no higher than a low #4 WR. TE Mark Bruener is not a viable fantasy option and is a no play. QB David Carr is facing one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL and should have his best game of the season. He may actually put a few fantasy points up this week, but still is not a great start at the position. He is a low #3 QB at best. Kicker Kris Brown has been consistent when given the opportunity to kick. Unfortunately for him, those opportunities have been slim this year. He does make a good start this week however, as the Texans may actually move the ball into field goal range a few times more than normal. Start Brown as a low #2 kicker. The Houston Texans Defense is not a wise fantasy choice as a team or individually in IDP leagues.
