Title: Week 14 #1 Free-agent Pick
Post by StegRock on Dec 11th, 2005, 2:05am
DEEP keeper league (GBRFL (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/))... got the first free-agent pick this week...  In the context of primarily long-term value, who would you pick up:  Ryan Moats, Koren Robinson or someone else (here is a direct link to our rosters page, on which you can do a "find" for any good pick-ups you think might be available:  http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/rosters.htm)???

I just took a look at the rosters and it looks like slim pickins!

While the jury is still out on Moats, RB's are at much more of a premium in GBRFL/GBRFL2.  I'm also not sure Robinson would be protected next year and you could probably draft WR's with equal talent.  For what it's worth!   ;D

Well, I did not see this in time in any event, didn't wake up until after kickoff.  Of course, I posted it in the a.m. last night.  Anyway, I end up disagreeing with Chumpman here.  My final evaluation on Moats is that he has little chance of a BIG-time future in Philly on any of a NUMBER of fronts:  1) the glut of RB's (that will be) there (next year), 2) Brian Westbrook, 3) his poor-to-mediocre play when having received opportunities, 4) his being on a team that may be declining, 5) Andy Reid's offensive system in which the ball is rarely run, and so on.  On the other hand, Koren Robinson is still a... [smiley=newbie.gif] We do know what he can do and it's pretty damn good.  His main problem is one of attitude and ethic, which, mind you, is key to success.  He could go the way of Lawrence Phillips.  To me, though, based on his play and what I hear coming out of his mouth, I think I see shades of Cris Carter('s situation). [smiley=ohshit.gif] How great would it have been to have gotten on that bandwagon as it just started to take off???  Furthermore, he is in a position to seize the opportunity:  Travis Taylor and Nate Burleson I think are evidently not the answers, Marcus Robinson is a stop-gapper, and Troy Williamson is, as many had indicated, just WAY TOO raw of a talent; he may take FIVE years to develop.  I went with Robinson here this week... by A LOT after really thinking about [smiley=thinking.gif] it and stripping away the veneer!!!

I just did the GBRFL2 Week 14 free-agents...  Let's just say that I found it "curious" with respect to "this" as well as neither hide nor hair of Mr. Moats on anyone's list...  K-Rob, on the other hand,... [smiley=annoyed.gif]

There's nothing "curious" about it... I actually find it rather astute of the GBRFL2 owners to leave him off their free agent lists.  Why would anyone put in a claim for him when he's already on a roster...  We're not as clueless as some might think...  [smiley=graduate.gif]

Sorry i'm late boys but I was held up with life.

I dont see Bobby Engram on a roster. He may not be a long term free agent, but he's tearing it up right now!

vs Giants   6 for 34 & 0 TD's
@ Philly      3 for 34 & 1 TD
vs frisco     6 for 65 & 2 TD's

He' getting the touches

Isn't Darrell Jackson coming back?

I thought he was set to return last week? Huh!

Even then I would expect Engram to start along side Jackson. He appears to be Hasselboys favorite target. Jurevicious will be in on 3 reciever sets.

Engram has been off and on a couple rosters this season.  I had him myself once or twice this season for a few weeks in total (it's all on the "Transactions (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/transactions.htm)" page).  Again, as you said, sk, "He may not be a long-term (prospect)."  Given the position I have "put myself in" this year, which is at least implicit in my message above, winning games now is NOT important for me, with respect to the waiver wire at least.  That's not to say that others in the running should not heed your advice, but Engram's not going to be high on my list.  Even with our deep 12-keeper system, I can't see his being protectable come next June/July/early August, moreover, even over players I now have.  So, I get the spirit of your response with respect generally to the league.  It's just that it really isn't responsive to me, the guy posing the question here, specifically.

Then I dont think that there is a player for you! I mean you could take a pile of rooks or 2nd stringers, put there names in a hat and pull one out. Hope they have a great next year.

Well,... I beg to differ...  I think there are a few guys worth getting (for this format).  I really don't want to advertise it here, however.  The point of this thread mainly was Koren Robinson versus Ryan Moats (and then I threw in the option of checking out the "Rosters" page for general analysis) for last week.  Week 14 is over.  I went, for better or worse, with Robinson.  I am not at all unhappy with that pick-up.  Moats's performance does not completely change my analysis from above, and it does not change my analysis as it regards Robinson at all.  Robinson, I expect has a great chance to be a solid keeper for next year in a 12-player keeper league, probably better than that of Moats's.  In any event, my debating between those two for last week was the thrust of the thread.

The End... of this thread! ;)
