Title: Jets Offseason Report
Post by StegRock on Feb 15th, 2006, 12:59am
"Pennington" and "cut" in the same sentence...  Currently from atop "The REAL Feed":

Jets Target Pennington (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/14/AR2006021401753.html)
Washington Post: Sports (15.02.2006 00:36)
The New York Jets want quarterback Chad Pennington to lower his 2006 income from $9 million to as little as $1 million, an NFL source says.

Chad's making his sitch very dicey by not accepting a pay cut, especially with the Jets perhaps in line to get one of these yummy college QB prospects AND the change in the coaching regime...  From "The REAL Feed":

Pennington agent to Jets: No contract renegotiation (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2334831&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines)
ESPN: NFL (18.02.2006 03:15)
Chad Pennington won't take a pay cut -- and it could cost him his job.

Again, given this, also off "The REAL Feed", you got to be thinkin' that there is a good chance that Brees will be coming to the Big Apple to take the lead role [smiley=batman.gif] for the Jets:

New York Daily News: Sports - Football (28.04.2006 10:18)
Reggie Bush was the best college football player last season and one of the best of all time. Vince Young, the Texas quarterback, played maybe the best single game of college football that has ever been played, if you really look at the stakes and circumstances of Texas vs. USC in the Rose Bowl ...

BUT, how about goin' and gettin' the guy you should get, New York, Mr. Bush, who unbelievably remains a "free-agent" of sorts?

New York Daily News: Sports - Football (02.05.2006 07:00)

This news has major concenquences in terms of fantasy value.  Who are the Jets going to go out and get?  They surely can not think Houston is carry the team.  All indications from THIS article indicate they are going after someone on another team......

The question is WHO?

The article mentions  Thomas Jones and Chris Brown.  Jones is unlikely with Benson hurt.  . Why didn't the Jets go after one of the free agents like Mike Anderson or Chester Taylor?  This will be interesting to watch!!! Some back up is going to become a starter....

This is an all around ugly situation.  The Jets stink!!!

I think the coach is trying to just send a message to Pennington to get his act together or he will be benched.  The problem is, who to go to?  Neither Ramsey nor Bollinger have stepped up at all preseason.  Clemens has a better passing rating in the preseason, but he is a rookie playing against 2nd and 3rd string.

So, I have no doubt that Pennington will be the starter.  But, I guess he is going to be on a VERY short leash.  Ultimately, Clemens needs to practice his butt off because he has a great shot of becoming the starter by week 9 with this Jets offense!!

Pennington confirmed QB1:

Pennington Wins Jets' Starting QB Job (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/n/a/2006/08/29/sports/s081223D56.DTL)

Ramsey, Clemens and Bollinger now are competing for the backup job. Pennington won't play in the preseason finale against Philadelphia on Friday night, but will be under center Sept. 10 against Tennessee.
