Title: Dolphins Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Feb 15th, 2006, 10:42pm An interesting take on the QB sitch... from a LOCAL source on "The REAL Feed": Is Gus Frerotte really all that bad? (http://www.miamifootball365.com/dolphins/articles/gus-frerotte-dolphins150206.shtml) NFL News: RealFootball365.com (15.02.2006 11:21) The Miami Dolphins definitely have a high level of uncertainty at the quarterback position heading into free agency and the NFL draft. Ultimately, I do not like Frerotte all too much, BUT the point is well-taken. |

Title: Re: Dolphins Offseason Report Post by Tony_O on Mar 13th, 2006, 11:53am A follow up to Steg's last clip.... Updated: March 12, 2006, 9:08 PM ET Brees to visit Dolphins; leaves Saints without dealAssociated Press NEW ORLEANS -- Free-agent quarterback Drew Brees showed good mobility Sunday, completing a visit with the Saints in New Orleans and then flying to Miami to talk with Dolphins officials. The meetings were confirmed by Brees' agent, Tom Condon. He declined to characterize negotiations but said a deal was unlikely before Monday at the earliest, with Brees planning to remain in Miami overnight. "I'm not going to talk to the Dolphins until [Monday]," Condon said. Miami coach Nick Saban and general manager Randy Mueller also met Saturday with Brees in Birmingham, Ala., where he has been rehabilitating his surgically repaired right shoulder. Brees went to New Orleans later Saturday and left Sunday without a deal. The Saints and Dolphins are considered front-runners to sign Brees, the top quarterback available in free agency. "Those are the two teams we have scheduled so far," Condon said. The Dolphins are also considering a trade for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Miami wants to upgrade the position after going 9-7 last season with Gus Frerotte at quarterback. The Saints are pursing Brees as a replacement for Aaron Brooks. "You've got a young ascending player who's proven at this level he can win," Saints coach Sean Payton said. Brees spent the last five seasons with the San Diego Chargers but reached a stalemate with them on a new contract. Before leaving New Orleans, Brees said the devastation of Hurricane Katrina wouldn't dissuade him from joining the Saints. He said he helped build winning teams at Purdue and San Diego, and the challenge of doing the same with the Saints appealed to him. "I think being a part of that would be a great opportunity," he said. Brees tore the labrum and damaged the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder in the final game last season and underwent surgery Jan. 5. He said Sunday that he faces another four or five months of recovery and doesn't anticipate any long-term effects. There are also health questions regarding Culpepper, who has asked the Vikings to trade him. He tore three ligaments in his right knee Oct. 30. |

Updated: March 13, 2006, 10:47 AM ET Dolphins agree to deals with LB Hodge, CB GoodmanAssociated Press MIAMI -- Free-agent linebacker Sedrick Hodge and cornerback Andre' Goodman agreed to contract terms with the Miami Dolphins, their agent said Monday. Hodge and Goodman are expected to contend for starting jobs that became vacant when Miami released veterans Junior Seau and Sam Madison. Hodge, who spent his first five NFL seasons with New Orleans, agreed to a two-year deal worth $2 million with up to $1 million in incentives, agent Brian Mackler said. Goodman, who spent his first four seasons with Detroit, agreed to a three-year, $5 million deal with a potential $2.5 million in incentives, Mackler said. Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller drafted Hodge when he was with the Saints in 2001. Hodge made 51 tackles last season. Goodman started eight games last year for the Lions and had a career-high three interceptions. |

Title: Re: Dolphins Offseason Report Post by Tony_O on Mar 14th, 2006, 1:43pm Follow up with details..... Updated: March 14, 2006, 1:31 PM ET Vikings deal Culpepper to Miami for second-round pickBy John Clayton ESPN.com The Dolphins decided to stop waiting for Chargers quarterback Drew Brees to lower his contract demands and opted to give the Vikings a second-round choice to acquire quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper had been talking to the Dolphins for the past week, expressing his desire to be with the Dolphins along with showing a willingness to rework his contract to fit into the Dolphins salary cap. Contract talks between the Dolphins and Brees have been stalled because the Saints had more money and more guarantees on the table from the Saints. Vikings coach Brad Childress said recently Culpepper is on schedule in his rehab from surgery in which he tore three knee ligaments after having a trainer fly to Florida to meet with Culpepper. The recovery time from such major surgery is 12 months, but Culpepper has told the Dolphins that he's ahead of schedule and may be able to play before September. Finding a quarterback this offseason was Nick Saban's main objective. Though he liked Brees, he was unwilling to give him $10 million in guarantees after he is coming off shoulder surgery. Culpepper's trade clears the stage for the Saints to get Brees. John Clayton is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com. |

Title: Re: Dolphins Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Aug 28th, 2006, 7:45am From a LOCAL source on "The REAL Feed": Dolphins' running game is stuck in neutral (http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/15377239.htm?source=rss&channel=miamiherald_sports) Miami Herald: Sports (28.08.2006 05:36) Another year under offensive line coach Hudson Houck, another year of physical and NFL maturity for running back Ronnie Brown, another couple of free agents added and the Dolphins were supposed to have a potent ground game for the first time since 2002. Should we be concerned or is there nothing here to be worried about??? |

Title: Re: Dolphins Offseason Report Post by DOLFAN on Sep 3rd, 2006, 1:11am Cutting Vick was not a surprise. I like the kid, but maybe we can keep him as a developmental guy. Keeping 2 Rbs is just plain stupid!!!!!!!!!! Plus we kept only 1 FB. 3 total Rbs, WTF??? [smiley=ohshit.gif] I know that we will get a RB off of waivers. I hope that it is Suggs...if healthy. I don't want Dayne, Davenport would ok too, but this is fucking stupid IMO. If Ronnie were to go down with injury, we are screwed [smiley=scared.gif]. Maybe they have a trade deal set up or something. Either way this was a bad move. |

I will give Miami credit. They liked two guys and kept two guys. The other smart thing they did was only kept 52 players. (one below the limit). So the extra spot is for a RB off of waivers. There are quite a few available. The ones you mentioned plus others...... |
