I think the Colts are trying to position themselves to Resign Edge, Jim Irsays favorite player on the team. They are known to hang out together quite a bit in the offseason.

From the Indy Star

Manning and Harrison rework their contracts to allow the Colts to get under the cap

With James now going to Arizona, where do the Colts turn for a RB?  I doubt they will stick with Rhodes/Mungro combo.

Jamal Lewis?  Maurice Maurice?  Michael Bennett?  Najeh Davenport?

It is going to be interesting!!!

Sirius Radio is reporting, citing ESPN as the source, that Adam Vinatieri has reached an agreement with the Colts.

This is huge news and should fuel an already heated rivalry.

After this past season, the Colts may have realized they only needed one more thing: a clutch kicker. The Colts signed one of the best clutch kickers in NFL history in Adam Vinatieri. Colts sign Shaun King, reuniting QB, Dungy

It's uncertain if King's acquisition is an indication Sorgi still is having trouble with a sore right arm that forced him to miss the recent mandatory minicamp.
Matt Brei, Sorgi's agent, said Thursday that Sorgi had not yet resumed throwing.

Jim Sorgi, QB

Soreness in the backup quarterback's right arm limited his throwing during the offseason. He has resumed throwing, but will the soreness return under an increased workload at camp? If so, the focus behind Manning might shift to Shaun King. The former Tampa Bay QB remains a Tony Dungy favorite. If healthy, Sorgi should remain the solid No. 2. He has a firm grasp of coordinator Tom Moore's offense and has played well when called upon. In nine career appearances, Sorgi has compiled a 99.3 rating by completing 65.6 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and one interception.

Word out of Indy is that Sorgi does in fact still have soreness. Right out of the gate.

How do you get a sore arm backing up a guy who never misses a snap? Watch out for a quick depth chart switch-a roo with Shaun King.

Looks like good news for Vinatieri owners:

Kicker has sprain, not broken foot (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060831/SPORTS03/60831030/1004/SPORTS)
INDYSTAR.com (31.08.2006 18:12)
"He has a sprained ligament, not a fractured bone in the ankle, and he's on pace for the opener," Kelley said after practice. "That's what we feel and that's the extent of our comment."

The question arose because earlier in the day, Vinatieri's mother, Judy Vinatieri, said the Colts kicker suffered a broken bone in his left, or plant, foot.

"You can ask," said the coach, "but I'm not going to address it. Our doctor will make a statement (on Friday) is my understanding, so you'll get the full medical (Friday)."

As long as it isn't coach-speak, all may be well.

Edit:  I'm seeing that other sources are saying that there is a broken bone in his left foot.  Guess they'll tell us tomorrow.

Colts' Vinatieri has ankle sprain, bone chip (http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/IND/9632768)
NFL.com(09/01/06)
Adam Vinatieri has a sprained ligament and a bone chip in his non-kicking leg, but the Indianapolis Colts hope he'll be ready for the season opener.

Vinatieri, the NFL's best clutch kicker and the Colts' biggest offseason acquisition, has not practiced or played since hurting the left ankle while running Aug. 14.

So I guess it was both.  ;D

I wouldn't lose him, but if you can - back him up for a week or two after you hear more.  The 10th is a long time away, and he could easily start.  And interim kickers are not so hard to come by off the waiver wire.
