Title: Chargers Offseason Report
Post by StegRock on Feb 18th, 2006, 5:01pm
Brees, not to be tagged... and, thus, just when it looked like he really was the real deal and the team had finally found their long-term quarterback... right up until that ("unnecessarily-incurred") injury Week 17, perhaps not to be back...  From "The REAL Feed":

Options narrow as Chargers rule out tagging Brees (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2334609&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines)
ESPN: NFL (18.02.2006 00:09)
The Chargers have all but ruled out the possibility of placing the franchise or transition tag on quarterback Drew Brees, leaving them only two options.

Could he be on his way to the Jets where his former QB coach now is...???

Given how we were all thinking as late as roughly midway through the first quarter San Diego's Week 17 finale, this really is a shocking [smiley=ohshit.gif] development...  Currently from atop "The REAL Feed":

Chargers' Brees likely to become free agent (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/wires/02/20/2020.ap.fbn.chargers.brees.0585/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (20.02.2006 19:03)

This is just SO unbelievable to me!!!  How on one play... [smiley=no.gif]

(KFFL) Harvey Fialkov and Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports free agent QB Drew Brees (Chargers) turned down a six-year, $50 million contract because only $2 million of it was guaranteed, according to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune. Why they would get rid of Sammy Davis for Woods is beyond me.  Especially now that they just got rid of Woods.

I have been saying this for MONTHS now  [smiley=deadhorse.gif], he's going to turn heads and that he may be this years Carson Palmer, and he just may propel your fantasy team into your SuperBowl.  I just had an "automatic" draft last night, and snagged him in the 8th round, I just may  [smiley=broncofan.gif] ride him all the way to the playoffs.

Here's the latest scoop I recovered from sportsline.com:

Rivers to play into second quarter Philip Rivers, QB SD

News: Chargers.com reports that head coach Marty Schottenheimer forsees QB Philip Rivers playing into the second quarter when he faces the Bears on Friday.

Analysis: Rivers is one to watch this preseason; if he looks good, he'll ascend to being a solid No. 2 Fantasy QB with potential to be this year's version of Carson Palmer. Don't be afraid to snag him with a middle- to late-round pick. We've noticed owners picking up Rivers after they draft Peyton Manning because of Rivers' Week 6 game at San Francisco -- which is when Manning will be on bye.
