More news on the potentially radical reconstruction taking place in the Ravens backfield...  From a LOCAL source on "The REAL Feed":

Mike Preston
Memphis running back DeAngelo Williams might be small, but he is making big noise in the NFL circles, so much that the Ravens might select him over Southern California's LenDale White with the No. 13 overall pick in the first round of the draft.

This news conflicts with what was brought up here:

Home again: Jamal Lewis agrees to new Ravens dealBy John Clayton
ESPN.com

Less than 12 hours after the Ravens replaced Chester Taylor with Mike Anderson, Jamal Lewis got what he wanted -- a chance to return to Baltimore.

The office of Lewis' agent, Mitch Frankel, confirmed Lewis accepted a three-year deal to stay in Baltimore. Terms of the deal were unavailable because Frankel was on a flight this morning.

Lewis was planning to go to Denver for a visit and start to find another team but he kept in touch with the Ravens. Finally, after 24 hours of negotiations, going back and forth between short-term and long-term deals, Lewis accepted a three-year deal to stay and will have a conference call with the media later this afternoon.

Jamal Contract shows he is starter

Any chance Mike Anderson had to start in... Published Mon Mar 13 11:58:00 a.m. ET 2006
(Rotoworld) Any chance Mike Anderson had to start in Baltimore is gone with Jamal Lewis' re-signing.
Impact: The AP mistakenly called Anderson Lewis' replacement Sunday night, when his contract clearly calls for a backup role. If the Ravens don't add a rookie, Anderson still looks like a useful fantasy handcuff.

I don't know that the article indicates anything to the extent that you are playing it up to be. Sure, serious hip injuries can end careers, but this is just a sprain that is causing pain and not hindering him. Heck, 5 yards a carry so far in preseason doesn't seem like career-ending to me.
