Kitna agrees to four-year deal with LionsBy John Clayton
ESPN.com

Jon Kitna made the first move Tuesday for what will be a busy day for NFL quarterbacks by agreeing to a four-year deal with the Detroit Lions.

Terms of the four-year contract weren't available, Kitna visited the Jets and Lions and was under consideration by the Ravens. He sensed something was going to happen with another team over the weekend when he told the Bengals he would not be returning.

In response, the Bengals brought in Rams quarterback Jamie Martin for a visit.

Kitna's decision could heat up talks between the Redskins and the Jets for Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramsey. The Redskins want to move Ramsey on Tuesday in a trade. Detroit, the Jets and the Dolphins were the teams talking to the Redskins.

Lions give Edwards $8M in guaranteesBy Michael Smith
ESPN.com

Defensvie end Kalimba Edwards has re-signed with the Detroit Lions for five years and $20 million, with $8 million in guarantees.

Edwards visited the Browns, was to meet with the Falcons, and his agent, Kennard McGuire, had scheduled a trip to Oakland. Edwards decided to return to Detroit after being impressed by new coach Rod Marinelli and defensvie coordinator Donnie Henderson's recruiting efforts. Edwards, 26, posted seven of his 20 career sacks last season in his role as a situational pass rusher. Detroit drafted him in 2002 out of South Carolina with the third pick of the second round.

This is an old-school Steggie-style report, the kind I used to do all the time back in the day when I had more time and when "The REAL Feed" contained fewer sources, virtually no local ones...

I was doing some "personal" research here before I hit the hay for the night and I ran into a bunch of stuff regarding (a guy I really like in the long-run) Orlovsky's pushing McCown for the #2 job, Bradford pushing M. Williams for the #2 wideout position, and the coaching staff's pushing M. Williams,... period.  From LOCAL sourceS on "the Gridiron Newsstand (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm)" (which, along with "The REAL Feed", is really all the hardcore fantasy footballer needs):

"2 Lions treated like polar opposites - M. Williams keeps busy, Rogers rests (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060803/SPORTS01/608030361/1049)"

"Mike Williams endures exhaustive stretch in heat (http://www.mlive.com/lions/stories/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1154488215281500.xml&coll=1)"

"Orlovsky remains in mix at QB (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060804/SPORTS0101/608040310/1126)"

"Lions are a week into drills (http://www.theoaklandpress.com/stories/080406/spo_2006080408.shtml)"

...

My take on Orlovsky,... he's a DEEEEEP [smiley=sleepers.gif] SLEEPER, for keeper leaguers at least, like another of Martz's offspring, a former stockboy named Kurt.

My take on M. Williams versus Bradford,... this whole Bradford thing is being used to light a fire under Williams's ass, period.  We ALL know what Bradford's about all too well.  He's a filler, and I'm not talkin' fantasy; I'm talkin' NFL-wise.  In the end, it will be the Williamses in the starting lineup.  Rogers, by the way, though, I think might just end up being the odd man out (of Detroit, which might actually be a good thing for his career).

Rogers now is sitting out practice with a sore knee...  From "The REAL Feed":

Rogers sits out of practice but hopes to end string of setbacks (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/wires/08/15/2020.ap.fbn.lions.rogers.0455/index.html)

I just think a once promising Charles Rogers is on his way out of Michigan, finally. [smiley=no.gif]

This guy is SO DONE...  If only there was as much "Mel Kiper-esque" hullabaloo as these guys get cut as there is when they're drafted...  From "The REAL Feed":

ESPN: NFL (17.08.2006 17:09)
Detroit Lions wide receiver Charles Rogers will miss Friday's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns with a knee injury.
