Boys Sign Ayodele

Cowboys | Contract update: A. Ayodele
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 14:07:14 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Dallas Cowboys LB Akin Ayodele signed a five-year, $17 million contract that included a $5 million signing bonus to join the Cowboys.

Cowboys:  Johnson decision coming today
The News

Cowboys wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson is due a $1 million roster bonus on Wednesday. There have been rumors about the team possibly releasing him before that time. "I assume I am getting my money," he told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I haven't been told any thing different."

Those rumors popped up prior to the new CBA came out and might not be as valid now that the Cowboys (and every other team) have more salary cap room. That being said, we'll know for sure at 3:00 p.m. CST how the Cowboys feel about Johnson and his bonus.

Cowboys:  Ayodele returns home
The News

The Cowboys signed free agent linebacker Akin Ayodele to a five-year contract on Monday, the team's official web site reported. Financial terms were not disclosed. Ayodele, 26, spent the previous four seasons with the Jaguars. He is a native of Irving, Texas and a former Cowboys ball boy.

To put it mildly the Cowboys had a rough year at linebacker and definitely needed an upgrade. Ayodele's production fell off a bit in 2005, but he's a solid addition to an improving defense. Plus, fans have to love the local kid angle.

The following is a rumored trade that was discussed between the Ravens and Cowboys and it is a BIG one.  Both teams claim the trade is dead but it is interesting to know it was even discussed.

The Ravens would trade Ray Lewis and Ed Reed to the Cowboys for Roy Williams and Greg Ellis.

Seeing the bigger picture, this kid ultimately did the right thing by humbly accepting the "opportunity" to hone his skills in NFL-Europe, a route taken by many a successful NFL player, quarterback in particular, these days.  I'm kind of rooting for him now.

Hurd is one of those guys who produces on the field, but then runs a 4.5-4.6 forty and teams figure he's too slow to be an NFL player. Unfortunately for Hurd, he went to a smaller MAC school, unlike Anquan Boldin and Michael Clayton who came from more recognized (and respected) programs, but ran similar times. Hurd is big and is a playmaker. He's not a guy I'd be very interested in this year, but he could stick around and be productive in a few years.
