(Originally posted by Takamine305 on the offseason thread: )

Maybe you already knew this but it wasn't official until a day or so ago.  Not exactly sure but anyways:

Leonard Pope has been named the starting TE!!

Get out the way because the Pope Mobile stops for no one!!

I don't think this is "news" to any of us...  Now, whether it is/becomes fantasy-relevant or not, we (still) do not know! [smiley=shrug.gif] My guess is not... really.

[smiley=coolit.gif]...i agree - if/when he nabs more than my boy fitz or anquan boldin - THEN you can get excited...until then, he'll have to wait his turn...

Now come on guys.  Don't treat my post like i'm hoisting Pope above Fitzgerald or Boldin!!  That would be LUDICROUS!! [smiley=laugh.gif]  In fact, to even think he will compete with those guys in receiving is LUDICROUS!!

I was just stating an "official" fact.  Whether anyone in the world already "figured" on it happening is irrelevant.  I "figured" Clinton Portis would start week 1 but I would have to say that I "figured" wrong.  ;)  ;)

I guess you would also think that had I mentioned something about Wali Lundy you would assume I was referring to him as a top tier back over L.J., L.T., and S.A.

And another thing to think about is the fact that since ALL the coverage is going to be worrying about the trio of studs coming at them (james, fitz, boldin) Pope will be finding himself open more times then not.  Warner knows how to spread the ball around to get his playmakers open.  This isn't his 1st rodeo (or football game for that matter).

Warner to remain the starter after all... according to "The REAL Feed":

Green says Warner to remain starting quarterback (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/wires/09/26/2020.ap.fbn.cardinals.warner.1st.ld.writethru.0428/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (27.09.2006 02:35)

I say this just delays the inevitable,... moreover, for one week...  I say they go into Atlanta this week, get pounded by an angry ballclub, and it's Leinart in Week 5. [smiley=crystalball.gif]

Hmmm, well, if he doesn't turn the ball over like he has the past couple games it won't matter if they win or lose the game and it won't matter how much they win or lose the game.  Green simply doesn't want to have to put Leinart in now and it's been even more the case with him sticking with Warner this week.  I say he holds on to his job until the speculated injury becomes worse or he continues his turnover rampage for another week or two.

I'm simply saying that it will be possible for AZ to lose this game and even lose it big and Warner to still hold on to that job.  He just has to stop turning it over and he's the man there.  Then again, if he doesn't turn the ball over....they win!!

It's a vicious cycle!!!!  ;)

[offtopic]This is just funny...  Of all the stadium sponsors they could get...  From "The REAL Feed":

University of Phoenix gets naming rights to Cardinals stadium (http://www.sportsfilter.com/comments.cfm/7717)
SportsFilter (27.09.2006 15:07)
The Arizona Cardinals played for 18 years at a college stadium in Tempe. Now the University of Phoenix, the nation's largest private university, will pay the NFL team $154.5 million over the next 20 years to put its name on the Cardinals' new home.

:-/...always have been and always will be a warner fan (he led me to 3/5 ffb championships)...there's something goin' on that practice has to be able to solve (specifically fumbles at the snap)...unless there is a problem w/ kurt's hand (could still be his thumb) that just will NOT allow him to receive the ball from center - or grip it during a hit...else, at least for this week, he is the best man to lead this team - and, from that perspective, has to be a better leader than matt ( a rookie - who held out) any way you slice it...i understand that idealism and finances have a difficult time (if not impossible) co-existing...but i agree, stop turnovers (tiki did) and you will be the unquestioned starter in this situation...for what it's worth,

Wow!  I can't believe the outpouring of love for old-man Warner.  I, for one, am out.  I've dropped him in JYJ's league.  Bottom line, sometimes you've just got to see the writing on the wall.  I've got nothing against the guy.  He just doesn't have "it" anymore, and "it" doesn't just mean putting up lots of yardage, which we fantasy footballers love, but doesn't change the "reality" of the matter.  If you are just rooting for him, that's one thing.  I have no problem with a dude stickin' with his guy.  But, if you are to any degree depending on him for fantasy purposes, you gotta learn when/how to see the writing on the wall and cut ties.  That's my take. I am starting to have to lean that way too Steg.  I am not ready to drop him altogether but i will probably look to another QB in Culpepper and his favorable matchup this week as opposed to Warner.  I think my newest AZCardinal report will signify why this MUST be done.  It will be up later this evening though.

[offtopic]Tak,... only thing,... I fear that Culpepper may not have "it" anymore, too, and with him "it", in short, means... Randy Moss (in the Dennis Green Minnesota Viking offense). :-/[/offtopic]

Not meaning to stray off the thread topic but in response to culpepper and having 'it' I must say that EVERYONE has 'it' agains the Texans.  ;)

[offtopic]Everybody had "it" against Tennessee too, though, no??? [smiley=yikes.gif]

(By the way, the "off-topic" smiley, which is good to use when going off-topic like this, is the one all the way to the right in the row of displayed smilies.)[/offtopic]

And, that could be that for that...  Currently topping "The REAL Feed":

Cardinals QB Warner says he may retire (http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/fortwayne/sports/football/15744021.htm)
News Sentinel: Sports - Football (12.10.2006 22:12)
This might be the final season for Kurt Warner in the NFL. The 35-year-old Arizona Cardinals quarterback, who lost his starting job to rookie Matt Leinart last week, said Thursday he is considering retirement after this season.

Looks like he might have read Stegs post and realized he didn't have "it" anymore.

Thanks for the week 1 performance which gave me a  high score that still stands as the #1 weekly total, overall.[smiley=cheers.gif]
