Stallworth to the Patriots:

Pats, Stallworth agree (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jc-stallworth031107&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
Yahoo Sports, March 11, 2007

New England continued its busy offseason by agreeing to terms with wide receiver Donte Stallworth on a detailed six-year contract that could be worth as much as $33.1 million or as little as $3.6 million for one season.

The complex nature of the contract reflects the fact that Stallworth is currently in the NFL substance abuse program, according to a report by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Another violation of the program could result in a suspension.

It's ironic how the Eagles have always held up the Patriots as the model they follow in the NFL... one of developing/extending their own players and being careful not to rely too heavily on free agency for team improvement. Yet the one year the Eagles do go hog-wild in FA and sign Jevon Kearse and Terrell Owens (although not technically a FA), they get to the Super Bowl. Now the Pats go out and sign Donte Stallworth to a long-term deal. I guess the Eagles won't be mentioning New England as their model any more.

An NFL Players Association source confirmed that the union has sent a letter to the NFL Management Council inquiring whether unethical dealings took place leading up to last week's trade between the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.

Maroney's injury a 'burden, much worse than anticipated

Potential bad news for the Patriots....and Maroney owners.  The surgery he had for the should injury revealed much more damage.  This could be a big problem going forward for the star RB.

ESPN: NFL (05.06.2007 11:10)
Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel says he won't show up for the team's mandatory minicamp, starting Tuesday. Or training camp. Or the first 10 weeks of regular season.

Here's what some people are saying according to an available resource uniquely available on FantasyFootballer.com's "The REAL Feed (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm)":

Asante to Pats: See you midseason (http://www.sportsfilter.com/comments.cfm/8775)
SportsFilter (05.06.2007 14:00)
New England Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel, miffed about being given the franchise tag, is skipping the Pats' first mandatory minicamp. He also says he'll skip the preseason and the first half of the regular season if New England doesn't sweeten its offer. Where do your sympathies lie, and is...

I must admit that I can't believe no one put up a post when Moss signed... [smiley=no.gif] That's not a good sign... or signing... ;) (well, really, the former...) :(
