Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Mar 10th, 2007, 4:45am Well, you guys know where I stand on this... I think it stinks. I am a "people" person more than I am a "team" guy, so to speak. During one of those transitional phases, I flew my mom and me out to Denver so as to check on some storage I had out in Colorado and, by the way, to see Jake's home debut as a Bronco, Monday Night against the Raiders. He threw three touchdowns in the first quarter. We won BIG! We stuck around for another round, a win over the Lions the following Sunday. I couldn't have been happier. Jake was my kind of gritty player. He was from nearby Idaho, and "this" was where he belonged. To see this go down the way it did makes me heart-sick, no less right on the heels of the Ron Dayne (another guy who I'd rather take the bullet for than be the ass pulling the people's cart (yea, this Nietzsche seminar I have this semester is wearing on me)) sitch the prior season. I know how he must feel because I think Denver is where he thought he "belonged". I know disappointment. I know the feeling of getting turned away from the door you know you are supposed to be standing at and going through. He can cover it up, and I think he's the type who will get back up, brush himself off, get his shit back in order and move on. But, that doesn't mean he ain't hurtin'. I feel for ya, Jake. I'll always be behind my Broncos, but at the end of the day it is "people" that matter, something, interestingly enough, that is highlighted by this very hobby that brings us together here. "Organizations" don't feel, laugh and cry. "People" do. I'll miss rootin' for ya playin' for the organization I root for, Jake, but I understand where you are. Best of luck in whatever direction you go in, man! We couldn't have asked for much more out of you, frankly speaking. [smiley=wavinbye.gif] |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by Callie on Mar 21st, 2007, 12:49am WR Brandon Stokley goes to the Broncos: Stokley, Broncos Reach Deal (http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/articles/2007/03/20/ap/sports/d8o05ah01.txt) The Rapid City Journal, March 20, 2007 Sounds like a one year "Prove It" deal to me. Also depth. (The link doesn't seem to work, so here is the text.) Stokley, Broncos Reach Deal By PAT GRAHAM DENVER - Former Indianapolis Colts receiver Brandon Stokley has agreed to a one-year free agent deal with the Denver Broncos. Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Brandon Stokley carries the ball during an NFL football game against the San Diego Chargers in Indianapolis, in this Dec. 18, 2005 file photo. Stokley has agreed, Tuesday, March 20, 2007, to a free agent deal with the Denver Broncos. (AP Photo/AJ Mast) Stokley's agent, Rick Smith, confirmed the deal Tuesday. Smith didn't reveal how much the deal was worth, and the Broncos declined to comment on the agreement. Stokley, who was injured much of last season, was released March 2 by the Colts. He also visited New Orleans before agreeing to the Broncos' offer. Stokley played in just four games, catching eight passes for 85 yards and one touchdown last season. He was hampered by ankle and knee injuries and ruptured his right Achilles' tendon on Dec. 10 at Jacksonville, ending his season. Stokley, 30, was the Colts' No. 3 receiver behind Pro Bowlers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. In 2004, he was part of the first receiving trio in league history to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. Stokley finished that season with 68 catches for 1,077 yards and 10 TDs. In his eight-year career, Stokley has 199 catches for 2,829 yards and 22 touchdowns. Stokley will be an insurance policy for Rod Smith, who had surgery on his left hip on Feb. 26 and is expected to be out four months. Smith, who will turn 37 in May, had just 52 catches last season, his fewest since 1996. Second-year pro Brandon Marshall is expected to start alongside Javon Walker. Stokley also won a Super Bowl title with Baltimore in 2001, when he scored the Ravens' first touchdown in their 34-7 victory over the New York Giants. |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by Philly on Aug 7th, 2007, 6:02pm Alright, I know lots of you folks here follow the Broncos pretty closely. The Broncos released a depth chart on Monday and it showed Brandon Stokley as a starting WR opposite Javon Walker. Granted, Brandon Marshall is injured, and did not appear anywhere on the chart. But is it possible that Stokley could unseat Marshall in the starting role? How has Stokley looked thus far in practices? Should I be paying more attention to him? |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Aug 7th, 2007, 11:07pm I don't know what Jim, Mark or anybody else is going to have to say,... but, for my part, I just put a post on the "Jaguars Offseason Report" thread that I think is in the same vain as how I think about this. I would check out what I wrote there. As to this,... yea,... Stokely could become the #2. I don't think that is what Shanahan wants to have happen. If it does, in all likelihood, it means Marshall blew it more than Stokely earned it. But, in any event, Marshall's still unexperienced and a kid, and Stokely is aging and this ain't Peyton's Colts. I would still rank Marshall (currently #47 among wide receivers over at StegsList.com (http://www.stegslist.com)) slightly higher than Stokely, but I don't think either of them are going to be much more than a #4/#5 on the fantasy gridiron. As such, I think Marshall is being over-hyped. Look, Javon Walker is THE MAN there. The Broncos generally have not produced two fantasy-worthy wideouts. There might be a couple exceptions: one year when both Rod Smith and McCaffery were both fantasy starters, and maybe, way back, two of the Three Amigos for a season or so might have been fantasy starters. But, that's about it. Shanny's Broncos are a RUNNING team. Walker will be a stud. Both Marshall and Stokely will be fringe fantasy players, at best, probably about the same regardless of who's higher on the depth chart. |

It is during the season when I'd like yous to put to use your "Weekly Analyses" promo threads... so as not to litter the "In-season Report" threads with weekly FF-specific team report announcements.
