Title: Re: Jaguars Off Season Report Post by StegRock on Jul 30th, 2007, 3:03pm Don't dismiss this nugget from a LOCAL source covering the Jags that currently tops "The REAL Feed (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm)": Couch is Jaguars' newest addition (http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/073007/jag_187830490.shtml) Jacksonville.com: Ultimate Jaguars (30.07.2007 04:58) Quarterback Tim Couch, who once enjoyed the pomp and circumstance and the mega-contract that goes with being the first pick in the NFL Draft, came off the scrapheap Sunday and quietly signed a two-deal deal with the Jaguars. I always thought Timmy didn't get a fair shake with the expansion Brownies (which is surely what they were then, that is, not even Girl Scouts ;D). Now he enters a QB situation where the starter has pretty much fallen out of favor and from grace and with a back-up who's never capitalized on the opportunities he's had. Couch, with the Jaguars, became an immediate SUPER-sleeper [smiley=sleepers.gif] the moment his pen came up from the contract after signing his name... [smiley=yes.gif] Keep your eyes peeled, fellow fantasy footballers... [smiley=threed.gif] |

Title: Re: Jaguars Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Aug 7th, 2007, 10:54pm The moral of the story here is going to be "fellow fantasy footballers the world over,... aside from serious training camp injuries,... take a deep breath, don't be impatient, and, most importantly, do not overthink, overreact to or get overexcited about anything going on right now." I heard Len Pasquarelli report today on ESPN that Ernest Wilford and Dennis Northcutt have been practicing with the first-team offense (presumably at the z and x, flanker and split-end positions, respectively) while Matt Jones and Reggie Williams, last year's team leaders at receiver and anticipated '07 starters, are running with the backups, and this surprising situation has now been corroborated by the team's first depth chart for '07. In fact, he pointed out that some kid, a rookie, I suppose (Jeff, Jim, get on that! ;)), has emerged and is listed as the team's #3. He went on to say that he could see Wilford and Northcutt as the Week 1 starters. ... He needs a new pair of glasses. [smiley=nerd.gif] Look,... it's August 7th... Things now and for the next three or so weeks are more about lighting fires under asses and evaluating uncertain talent. A good way to kill both of those birds with one stone is to shake up the depth charts and practice teams. At the end of the day, come Week 1, I'm not 100% sure about who the starters are going to exactly be, BUT this receiving corps will be what it has always been, a lackluster group from a fantasy perspective. One of them, likely Jones, Williams or Wilford, I think in that order, will be a fringe starter, a #3/#4, on the fantasy gridiron while it would be best to consider the other two as #4/#5's. Northcutt will in all likelihood not merit a fantasy roster spot unless two of the aforementioned three get injured, and even then he probably still won't. The kid, I suppose, is the one unknown, but, still, on this team, he's not so much an X-factor as an x-factor. Ultimately, this whole situation is a 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d... deal. ... Things just don't change that rapidly in the NFL, especially when the same players are "at play". Heed these words, "Take it easy right now! Enjoy just taking it all in,... but not analyzing and processing it so much." [smiley=zenmaster.gif] |

Title: Re: Jaguars Offseason Report Post by Philly on Aug 7th, 2007, 11:28pm Hmm... I guess the cat is out of the bag now. First off, I put very little stock in anything that Len Pasquarelli has to say. I find him to be quite self-serving and somewhat misinformed. But, then again, I may be a bit jaded by the hilarious treatment he gets from the better-informed (in my opinion) folks over at profootballtalk.com. But since you mentioned the rookie, I'll elaborate. His name is Mike Walker, out of Central Florida. He was a very good college receiver but he flew under the radar of most fantasy owners because Central Florida isn't yet a major name in college football. I fully expect Walker to surprise some people in pre-season. Whether or not that means a ticket to fantasy-relevance is not determined yet. If the Jags sever ties with Reggie Williams or Dennis Northcutt, then Walker becomes fantasy-relevant very quickly. |

To what degree do you really think, though??? Point being, as per my post above, I think the whole lot is fantasy-fringe to begin with. He is the "unknown", though... |

Title: Re: Jaguars Offseason Report Post by Philly on Aug 7th, 2007, 11:57pm I agree with your assessment of fantasy-fringe. I like Mike Walker a lot, but this offense certainly has its fantasy limitations for receivers. Wilford will still be in the mix, and I can't believe that they'd give up on Jones this early, so I foresee Walker as the #3 at best, and that's not an exciting position for a fantasy owner. In a deep keeper league, or a dynasty league, he's more appealing for his long-range potential with a different QB and offensive scheme. |

Title: Re: Jaguars Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Aug 8th, 2007, 12:02am Jeff, has your take on Williams changed (for '07)? I remember there were lots of Matt Jones guys a year ago. I was a Wilford guy. You were a Williams guy, and you, especially considering that you were pretty much alone in your position, were right. You think he's falling back out of favor, or was that a typo there above? |

Title: Re: Jaguars Offseason Report Post by Philly on Aug 8th, 2007, 9:12am I'm not very high on Reggie Williams last year. He did have the most receptions, but only because Matt Jones missed so much time (only started 4 games). Jones still had as many TDs and more receiving yards though. I think last year was the year Reggie Williams really had to show that he was worthy of the 1st round pick the Jags threw at him, and he didn't do it. |

I was really surprised with this news! Ultimately, I am not sure why Del Rio came out and said they were going to cut him. If he had not said that, good chance the Jags could of gotten a decent draft pick for him. For Leftwich, being cut will be better than being traded. He can go to any team he wants. Many teams do not have a decent back up. If I was a gambling man, my money would be on Atlanta and the Ravens as the two leading contenders to land him. |
