Title: Re: Panthers Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Apr 7th, 2007, 4:53am With all due respect to Jake Delhomme, who I won a GBRFL Championship with a couple years ago (The Two Jakes), they'll be starting the "Carr" by mid-season. Mark my words! [smiley=yes.gif] |

Title: Re: Panthers Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Apr 9th, 2007, 10:20pm How about this for an early veteran deeeeep sleeper??? [smiley=sleepers.gif] From "The REAL Feed": Memo to Panthers: Get Carter (http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/2007/04/memo_to_panthers_get_carter.html) NFL News: RealFootball365.com (09.04.2007 09:19) To find that reliable receiver, the Panthers need only to look at last year's roster. Retaining restricted free agent Drew Carter would be a huge shot in the arm for the entire offense. Even though he hasn't had a ton of success, Carter made some big plays last year despite being stuck behind tw... |

Title: Re: Panthers Offseason Report Post by cwhams on Jul 27th, 2007, 10:44pm I'm really liking the Panthers this year...I think they may have one of the better one two punch running backs in the League (De Angelo Williams & DeShaun Foster)...a healthy Delhomme (Thumb injury last year) and some good draft picks in the WR area Dwayne Jarrett & Ryne Robinson, along with retaining Drew Carter...should have a fairly potent offense. They will make better use of Mike Gaines at TE this year as well...come to think about it, why did'nt I draft Gains in the CBFL....Hummmmm [smiley=doseofreality.gif] |

Title: Re: Panthers Offseason Report Post by Philly on Aug 1st, 2007, 9:30am So what do people think...? The Panthers have switched to the zone blocking scheme that one-cut backs have excelled in. Does this benefit Williams with his quicks, or will there still be a RBBC in Carolina? I don't see either back really getting the bulk of the work. And this is one of those situations where, if you have one back, you really need to handcuff the other. The problem is that because of this requirement, you'll lose a couple important draft picks because Williams is probably a 4th round pick and Foster a 7th or 8th. |

Title: Re: Panthers Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Aug 1st, 2007, 4:31pm In terms of the system, of their backs, I think it benefits Shelton the most. Don't get me wrong! He's not gonna get a chance to really be in the mix, no less become the starter. But, an injury [smiley=injury.gif] here and an injury [smiley=injury.gif] there, which we at least know Foster is susceptible to and mighty mouse could be too, watch out. He may finally be put in a "position" to live up to his rookie hype. |

Title: Re: Panthers Offseason Report Post by Callie on Aug 1st, 2007, 9:02pm Having both backs, or even both backs and their back-ups, doesn't tell you which back to start in any given week. Back, back, back. ;D |

Wow! That's a name I didn't expect. He's the one guy who I think the system does NOT benefit. If you remember Shelton at Louisville (he clearly doesn't have enough NFL game film to judge him by), he was a straight-ahead runner. He took the ball and had to hope the hole was open... if not, he was going to try to make his own hole by running over or through defenders. He's NOT a cutback runner by any means and is the epitome of the proverbial "north-south" power runner. Every scouting report that I've read of the guy indicates that his field vision is lacking too, and that skill is paramount in this type of offense. I'd be interested to know why you think Shelton is the guy that is best suited for this offense now. You didn't offer much justification for you statement there, so I'm hoping you'll enlighten me. |

That's exactly right. That's why I wouldn't count on either of them in a redraft league. If Williams fell to a point where I could grab him as a third back without sacrificing other positions in my lineup, I might do it. But to look to either of them as anything higher is risky business! |

Just a feeling, really... As you know, I don't know much about the college [smiley=footballsmiley.gif] side of things, at least in terms of individual players, an area in which you are very astute. So, a lot of that I didn't even know. On the other hand, it must be admitted that that's fairly old info at this point. I just think that if a BIG back, who's been struggling to get his career untracked, but still has latent talent, finds himself in a one-cut system that he is either familiar with or can learn to run in, he's got a way to revive his career. That may be a naive notion, but, for whatever it's worth, that's where I am coming from. [smiley=idontknow.gif] |
