Personally, I think that Detroit is far-and-away the best fit for him. He's a dome guy and a downfield passer guy. Sounds very "Mike Martzy" to me. He knows the NFC North and would have just the right group of receivers to revive his career. Jacksonville, where they're saying he might go, I think would be a(nother) Sunshine State DISASTER!!! My second choice for Culpepper would be Minnesota. But, the awkwardness of that makes me like Detroit WAAAY more and, maybe, even makes want to bump up my third choice for him, that being a team NO ONE is talking about,... Denver. Other options being talked about, like Baltimore, despite Billick's being at the helm there, also make me uneasy. What do yous think???

I'm guessing the Raiders will give him a look in camp, but probably cut him. He'll be a late signing for a team that has a QB go down in camp or early season. But I doubt he sees the field much at all this year.

The problem with the Detroit theory is that Martz Qbs have got to be healthy, cause they flat get the crap knocked out of their bottoms. I don't think Culpepper is ready for that kind of exposure. Denver makes pretty good sense and I think he would be a nice upgrade from to Jamie Martin in New Orleans...I guess you see where I'm going here...he is really a pretty solid back-up for a lot of teams...I like Tennessee too.

I'll just come out and say I have no idea where Culpepper might end up. I think the most rational thing I've heard is that the Fins will keep him in their stable for a bit longer (while keeping him off the playing field and risking any further injury) and then wait for another team's starting QB to go down in training camp and dangle him as trade bait. Otherwise, they cut their losses and let him go (honestly, I don't know the salary implications of such a move and if it is feasible or not).

The guy is seriously damaged goods. I don't think anybody is going to match his current salary, until there is significant evidence that he is at least 85% good.

He had a gun for an arm, but he could run the ball very well and got a lot of TD's from close range...the man is huge. The running part of his game is pretty much done...and the gun throws to the other team as often as not...who really wants an expensive use to be?

Mind you, he'll be TERRIBLE if he winds up in Atlanta. That said, I think he'll stink just about anywhere he winds up,... definitely Jacksonville. The only place I think he has a prayer is Detroit because personnel-wise, players and coaches, it's the most similar situation to what his was back in Minnesota back in the day.

The "Afternoon Blitz" on Sirius reported the Atlanta Falcons are not considering Culpepper as an option. It was also reported that Culpepper visited Tampa Bay... ?.?.? Yes, Tampa Bay. I highly doubt they will sign him but, as was quoted... "There isn't a QB that Gruden doesn't love." I believe they currently have 7 QB's on their roster??

Yea,... I heard that on ESPN early today. I don't buy it. I just think that Blank has too much invested in Vick and it's just (a little) too early in the going of the indictment to start talkin' a big-name guy like Culpepper, which would really be off-putting to Vick, and could backfire big-time if Vick is able to hit the field this year, at least in terms of his PHAT,... FAT contract. Mind you, I'm not saying that Vick is going to be able to perform well this year. I don't know. But, talking Culpepper right now would only exponentially complicate an already complex situation.

I'm too much of a skeptic to ignore the fact that Culpepper got released just when the Vick issue finally hit the big fan. Culpepper was pushing to be a starter, everyone wanted him as a back-up, he is his own agent (anyone who has himself as a client is a fool - sorry, lawyers), and I don't believe for a heartbeat that backdoor deals don't happen.

My guess is that Culpepper is a Falcon. That's the only way that the Phins get value for Culpeppers' knees.

No, Steg. I'm a skeptic - One who instinctively or habitually doubts, questions, or disagrees with assertions or generally accepted conclusions, in spite of assertions proffered. I don't believe that it was without meaning that the two things happened in such close proximity, considering the way the Fhins had been handling things so far.

The words conspiracy and cynic may be a bit much. Cynic - A person who believes all people are motivated by selfishness. I don't think it was that. I think that it could be a deal being kept quiet due to all the fallout that still needs to settle before the Falcons can bring in a replacement. Vick has already been tried in the press more than the league would like. As for conspiracy, that's just silly. ;D

Edit: Oops, forgot the lawyers. I always understood that quote to make fun of the client representing himself and also the lawyer he is being at that time. So, maybe it isn't clear, but I think you knew that I was basically making fun of Culpepper. If you're keeping score, that one can be yours. [smiley=cheers.gif]

Well,... :-/ we're working with different definitions/understandings/usages of the words skeptic and cynic and, perhaps, conspiracy as well. One thing, just real fast, a skeptic in my book is not just skeptical of "generally accepted conclusions", but of everything, skepticism being one's general disposition. That's why "I" don't see it as fitting here. ... Oh, well...

As for the saying about lawyers/people representing themselves,... I think it runs differently. I kind of want to say that I know the saying you are referring to, but I don't think what you wrote is it, and I can't think of how it goes myself, so... Oh, well...

As to the real stuff on the thread, the Jags aren't going to make a deal, no one else is biting very hard. So how about this wording...I say the birds swoop down and pluck that fish out of the water. ;D

hmmm...i think detroit's happy with what they have, right now i'd take kitna over c'pep...he's kinda between a rock and a hard place...he's apparently not ready now - and unless someone tanks pretty soon after the start of the season, no one's gonna be willing to take a chance on someone they haven't seen do ANYTHING impressive in quite some time - i wouldn't if i were a gm...i can't think of anybody who'd be willing to do anything but tuck him away on the roster for future reference and that probably can't happen until everybody is signed...

I can't fish up a link, because I'm drafting and just juking in and out But it seems that Culpepper is working out with the Raiders! I never liked the idea, and I think it's just to light a fire under Russell to sign a deal and get into camp. But I did hear a thing that did make sense. CPepp would be a very good mentor for Russell.
