The Vikes may be forced to make a change at QB this week... according to "The REAL Feed":

With Jackson dinged up, Holcomb and Bollinger are competing (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/nfl/wires/09/19/2020.ap.fbn.vikings.quarterbacks.0783/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (19.09.2007 20:19)

My money's on Holcomb to get the knod this Sunday... and, perhaps, keep the job... [smiley=yes.gif] Holcomb's strong arm also, perhaps, puts Williamson back on the fantasy map,... [smiley=radar.gif] as he may not be a good route runner, BUT he can fly.

Apparently Coach Childress already knows who he's starting... my guess is the nod goes to Holcomb too. I don't know that this improves things for the WRs though. Sure, we've all seen the big games from Holcomb in the past, but there's a reason why he is a journeyman QB. I'd still avoid the Minny WRs if possible. Adrian Peterson is the only Vike worth starting right now.

Jackson expected to be back at the helm Week 6... according to "The REAL Feed":

Vikings QB Jackson likely to start against Bears (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3055059&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines)
ESPN: NFL (08.10.2007 21:31)
Tarvaris Jackson is expected to return Sunday as the starting quarterback at Chicago.

I wonder how long of a leash he'll be given...  What do you guys,... cp,... think???

Had Holcomb been able to deliver a win in the 2 game absence of TJ, I think he'd still be starting.   Seriously, even winning 1 of the 2 (both were winnable!), and Holcomb would be in there.

As it is, the Vikings feel they may as well go with the kid.  He's got a rocket arm, and is very mobile (Holcomb is neither).  Problem for TJ is accuracy.  If he can every become a better passer, he'll be pretty good.   I think they'll stick with him the rest of the way.   Holcomb just didn't show any reason to hold on to the leash.

[offtopic]What I don't understand is how Childress could miss this far on Jackson.  Remember, they traded 2 3rds to move up to the end of the 2nd to take him.   Most had him rated a 4th rounder, so the Vikings really wanted him.   No one can figure out why... [/offtopic]

Jackson out and Holcomb back in...  From "The REAL Feed":

Sources: Vikings to start Holcomb at quarterback (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3083275&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines)
ESPN: NFL (28.10.2007 00:28)
In a move that has been anticipated much of the week, Minnesota Vikings backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb will start in place of the injured Tarvaris Jackson on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, sources said late Saturday night.

Minny QB's continue to take a beating...  From "The REAL Feed":

With starting QB Jackson already hurt, Vikings lose backup Holcomb (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/nfl/wires/10/28/2020.ap.fbn.nfl.injuries.1051/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (28.10.2007 21:31)

For whatever it's worth, Bollinger looked pretty good while he was in... [smiley=shrug.gif] Good pickup next week??? [smiley=idontknow.gif] Situation does seem just a little "Brad Johnson-esque" from back in the day. [smiley=hmmmm.gif]

Bollinger did look OK in relief, but given a week to look at the limited film on him, I expect SD to absolutely obliterate him.   Bollinger gets happy feet when blitzed and can make some pretty stupid throws.

SD Defense is a magnificent start this week.  Expect a horrid line like 8-26 110 yds 0 TDs 3 INTs 2 Fum   from Bollinger

Childress brings in one of his boys at QB...  From "The REAL Feed":

Vikings add depth at QB by signing Koy Detmer
(http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3097762&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines)
ESPN: NFL (06.11.2007 18:46)
The Vikings signed Koy Detmer on Tuesday to serve as an insurance policy for a banged-up group of quarterbacks.

Who (else) thinks that Detmer will be at the helm for Childress sooner than later???

I heard that Detmer was brought in primarily as a holder.  I guess he's also good for emergency depth, though.  (Especially with the way they keep getting their QBs injured.  ;D )

Peterson does suffer a torn knee ligament, BUT it's an LCL, not the more precious ACL or even MCL.  He might not be out too long according to what's currently atop "The REAL Feed":

Vikings Peterson out at least 1 game with injured knee (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/nfl/wires/11/12/2020.ap.fbn.vikings.peterson.3rd.ld.writethru.0807/index.html)

Vikings to let Childress go?

There's a lot of rumor on several message boards and fansites out there that Wilf is going to buy out the rest of Childress' contract and let rookie DC Leslie Frazier head the team for the remainder of the season...(and in effect, get an extended interview for the job).

I'm not even going to post links, as they're all fansites and message boards...nothing concrete, but if this is true, I think it's a big mistake.   Granted, Childress hasn't shown anything to inspire the fans, but he's working with an absolutely horrid QB sitch.   Mostly by his own doing, to be sure, but I think the team needs to see if it can rectify that this offseason by trying to get another QB in there to see if Childress' "kickass" offense can take flight....er....run...er.....ok, just get off it's fat arse!

Anyway...stay tuned.   [smiley=checkin.gif]
