Title: WDIS - Philly's Thread
Post by Philly on Nov 2nd, 2007, 1:33pm
OK, here's the situation. I'm 3-5 in my money league, but I still have a decent shot to make a run for the playoffs. Four of my losses were by a combined 14 points, and in the fifth I got spanked (bye week issues and an opponent starting the Seahawks!? defense the week they throttled the Rams). I could very easily be 6-1 right now, but I'm not. I've watched my top 3 starting QBs go down with injury. So I really need to get some wins in order to get back in contention.

Scoring: 1 per 25 PaYds, 6 per PaTD, 1 per 10 RuYds, 6 per RuTD, -1 per INT/FL, +1 per PaTD of 50+, +2 per PaYds 300+, +1 per RuTD of 50+

QBs on my roster:
David Carr @ TEN ... Kellen Clemens v. WAS ... JP Losman v. CIN ... Sage Rosenfels @ OAK
QBs on waiver wire:
(David Garrard, Cleo Lemon, Steve McNair, Joey Harrington, Alex Smith, Josh McCown, Damon Huard, Tarvaris Jackson)

I need to start one this week. Thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

Rosenfels at Oakland. I think he's in for 250-275 yards and 2 TD's. AJ is possibly back and that can only help. He can throw the ball well and usually has sound judgement. Watching the last two games where he threw his interceptions was not the norm for him. Two of those INTS were the receiver's fault. Only one of those INTS was a truly stupid throw. Anyway, you only lose 1 pt. per interception, so what's the worst case scenario? Losman may also be a nice start against CIN if he's the guy. Last thing I thought I heard was that Edwards was moving in...I don't follow Buffalo at all, so I'm not sure what's going on there QB wise.

My first thought is...."YOUR QB"S SUCK!"

Sorry bout that. The first thing that jumps out at me is Steve Mcnair. He's not a long term fix and his injuries make him very risky anytime. ANND, The Rat Birds really suck offensivly right now. BUTTTT, he is a Steeler killer. As a Steeler fan I cannot remember the last time Mcnair had anything less than a steller outing against the Steelers.

STEVE MCNAIR
2005 TENN @ PITT   18/26  219yrds 1 TD  31 - 7 loss
2006 PITT @ BALT    18/24  240yrds 1TD   27 - 0 Win
2006 BALT @ PITT    21/31  256     3 TDs   31 - 7 Win

Steve McNair does his best Joe Montana Immpression when against Pittsburgh.

I kind of like... Harrington vs. San Fran, McCown vs. Houston, Losman vs. Cincinnati, McNair @ Pittsburgh, and Rosenfels @ Oakland, in about that order.  BUT, most of all, I like Cleo Lemon on a bye-week. [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif]

Good luck! [smiley=shamrock.gif]

Edited to add McCown!!!

Thanks for the help. In the end, I wound up waiving Kellen Clemens in order to add some WR help in the form of DJ Hackett. (I was only carrying 3 on my roster and we start 3 each week.)

I started JP Losman against the dreadful Cincy defense. I went to the ESPN fantasy site where they list FF points against: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/pointsagainst and saw that the Oakland defense has done a decent job against QBs. I wasn't comfortable starting a QB in Pittsburgh on Monday night, so Losman seemed to be the best option. He was just shy of 300 passing yards with a teeder and a pick, but he added some rushing yards too (and I got to double dip with Lee Evans' big day!).

Never mind that whole Steve McNair thing!

Alright... I'm back in the playoff hunt again. I still have some issues, but things are looking up a bit.

My roster:

QB - JP Losman, Rex Grossman, David Carr
RB - Adrian Peterson, Willis McGahee, LaMont Jordan, Ron Dayne
WR - Lee Evans, Joey Galloway, DJ Hackett, Jerricho Cotchery
TE - Antonio Gates
K - Stephen Gostkowski
D - Eagles, Vikings

Since Peterson got injured, I arranged a trade. I'll be getting Chester Taylor and Chris Cooley and giving up Antonio Gates and Jerricho Cotchery.

My big question again this week is which QB do I start?

JP Losman at home against the Pats, or
Sexy Rexy at Seattle

I'm leaning towards Losman because he'll likely be playing catchup thru the air. He's not going to have a ground game either.

Thoughts?

Sexy Rexy???? Yep, I have some thoughts alright.....my thoughts are that you are a homo......... ;D  ;) no seriously I doubt that you are gay...but I did hear someone say your boyfriend was very queer though....just kidding  of course, don't get  >:( at me Philster!! ;)  ..................I like Losman for the same reasons you do...but I think Rex is the safer start. I can see Losman throwing 3 or 4 picks and I believe the Pats are gonna completely shut down the entire Bill offense regardless! I don't see them even giving up garbage time yardage here.

I think Grossman will have the better day.   Losman may hit one deep to Evans, but I bet Grossman hits Olsen and Berrian just as much.   I don't think SEA can shut down CHI, while I think NE will shutdown BUF.

[offtopic]As for MC and your shameful display of bigotry and intolerance...I had thought you were above this type of hatemongering.  As a man of  the GBRFL2, it seemed to me you would know a disgusting, pansy-arse fairy is allowed to suck c*%# and guzzle j!^^ as much as they want without being called out by a redneck like you!   ;)[/offtopic]

I don't get killed by INTs by a QB (only lose 1 point per pick), so I'm not terribly concerned about them if one QB has a likelihood to throw more TDs than another.

I looked into things a bit and Seattle has only allowed 5 TDs through the air this year while New England has allowed 11, although New England allows significantly fewer passing yards.

The reason I was also leaning a bit towards Losman was the fact that any long TDs to Evans would benefit me twice.

And now that I see how people really feel about Sexy Rexy (not that there's anything wrong with it), maybe I'll have to take that into consideration too!

Funny how stats can be twisted though.   Check this out...the only teams that didn't throw a TD pass against SEA were SF (shocker)  and CLE (dumb luck that all the receivers fell at the 2 and let Jamal Lewis rack up 4 TDs on 37 yards!)

NE is getting thrown on a ton as teams try to keep up, so I'd expect them to give up more TDs.  There's only 2 teams that didn't throw a TD vs. NE....MIA (though they rushed for 2 in garbage time) and BUF.

Losman got hurt in that one and threw only 1 pass.   Edwards has looked better since, but Losman is back now.

Tough call...but I just feel Rex is a safer option.

I'm with MC and cp.  This week, Losman is the "sexy" option while Rex is the (I can't believe I'm going to say this) "safe" :P option.  It's all relative, though.  Truth is, they are both bad options.  You can't grab Boller off the waiver wire, can you?  He'd be a better play than either of them, brother.

Boller, of course, was available. I grabbed him and gave him the start, and after 1 half, I'm seriously regretting it. Already a fumble lost, an INT, and 0 passing yards.

Kyle certainly atoned for his first half misdeeds in the second half. He already outscored Rex 15-10. We'll see how JP does. Not a terrible first half thus far.
