Title: CaptainPurple's Playoff Defense thread Post by captainpurple on Nov 27th, 2007, 1:52pm ;D OK, so I've got: PIT - CIN, @NE, JAC, @STL TB - @NO, @HOU, ATL, @SF I'm not liking PIT in 3 of their 4 remaining games...and maybe not even @STL if they keep scoring points. TB is looking tasty in the playoffs (bolded). But I need a D to get me through to then. Here's the WW and their week 13 & 14 matchups: DEN @ OAK, hosting KC CAR hosting SF, @JAC WAS hosting BUF, hosting CHI OAK hosting DEN, @GB NYJ @ MIA, hosting CLE MIA hosting NYJ, @BUF I'm thinking I'll drop PIT for DEN or CAR. I like CAR hosting SF this week, then I could go with TB next week. Or grab CAR this week and drop them for DEN hosting KC next week. Then ride TB in the playoffs. thoughts? |

Title: Re: CaptainPurple's Playoff Defense thread Post by BarnabyWilde on Nov 27th, 2007, 4:16pm Grab Denver and play them this week vs Oak and next wek vs KC, then ride TB. Oakland turns the ball over way too much and Denver has been improving lately. |

Title: Re: CaptainPurple's Playoff Defense thread Post by steelkings on Nov 28th, 2007, 8:17am Not so fast. The Steelers are not replacing that turf in Pittsburgh. That will slow the bengals down. I would be tempted to play the NO# 1 defense in the league anouther week. In fact. I'm gonna. |

The Steelers are crushing on Defense this year. I think you are over analyzing if you do not start them. If Polumua(sp) plays, then it is a no brainer. If he is out again. MAYBE you think about it at that point. |

Yeah, that's what I thought a couple weeks ago vs. the Jets. I started PIT after being told I was over-analyzing, only to see TB score 23, and PIT to lay a major egg...costing me the game! #1 D or not, it's all about 1 week at a time now. I'm certainly not playing PIT against NE next week...and not against JAC the week after. I just think Denver has a better shot at turnovers and a low scoring game. Palmer and Co are coming around and I can't afford PIT to lay another egg. |

Title: Re: CaptainPurple's Playoff Defense thread Post by steelkings on Nov 28th, 2007, 9:23pm If thats the case then, Why did you ask? 1. you are right. Its about match ups. As far as that go's I wouldn't start anyone against New England. 2. Cincy rarely plays well in Pittsburgh and the Steelers at home will kick Jacksonvilles ass. 3. Denver @ SD +@ Houston + Minnesota during the fantasy playoffs is questionable. Denver sure did make Hester and Grossman look bad. ::) 4. What ever D you choose. Remember the most important thing. Defenses are always much better at home as opposed to on the road. No matter who they are playing. |

Title: Re: CaptainPurple's Playoff Defense thread Post by captainpurple on Nov 28th, 2007, 11:23pm I wasn't really asking if I should keep PIT...I'd decided to drop them. I was asking about the DEN/CAR split. I'm riding TB in the playoffs against ATL and SF. I know you're not wearing your rose colored glasses when you make the blanket statements "Cincy rarely plays well in Pittsburgh and the Steelers at home will kick Jacksonvilles ass" [smiley=threed.gif] ;) I'll stand behind my decision and take my lumps next week if you're right....but I really feel DEN is the safer option with more upside. CIN is going to put 20-24 on PIT, so that won't help me win. DEN has the chance to get 3-4 TOs thanks to PullCrapper, and maybe Bailey can house one to help me out. We'll see on sunday! |

Pittsburgh 24---Bungles 10 Raiders 34-----Denver 20 Tampa Bay 27-----New Orleans 23 How did that work out for you? I dont want to hear any of that, "How bout those Vikings" That Iv'e heard over and over from my drunkin Viking fan friends! [smiley=cheers.gif] [smiley=cheerleader.gif] |

Title: Re: CaptainPurple's Playoff Defense thread Post by captainpurple on Dec 3rd, 2007, 11:22am I'll believe you next time you say "Cincy....in PIT...." Palmer looked like hell. He must've missed 7 open WRs. But neither D did enough for me to win, or poorly enough to cost me. I needed a difference maker and didn't get it. I lost either way. I ultimately decided to go with CAR but someone beat me to the WW...so I was stuck with DEN. Snooze, you lose! BTW... HOW BOUT THEM VIKINGS!!! |

Title: Re: CaptainPurple's Playoff Defense thread Post by captainpurple on Dec 7th, 2007, 12:43pm Back with a WEEK 14 WDIS at D/ST. I have DAL @ DET and TB @ HOU DET plays marginally better at home. Should I stick with TB, or hope DAL can get up on DET and then get some picks...maybe house one? Thanks! |

Title: Re: CaptainPurple's Playoff Defense thread Post by StegRock on Dec 7th, 2007, 11:03pm I'd give your opponent the "TB Test". My man-love for Ron [smiley=spchef.gif] Dayne notwithstanding, he isn't the type of back I seeing having much success against Tampa's D, and Rosenfels is (I believe) your starter under center. I don't care how "decent" he's looked. Playing Dallas would be a bit of a roll of the dice. Tampa isn't or, at least, shouldn't be. |
