Title: Panthers Offseason Report
Post by Philly on Feb 12th, 2008, 10:47am
The Carolina Panthers released two veteran players yesterday: LB Dan Morgan and OG Mike Wahle.

Morgan was a dynamic MLB and great IDP player, when healthy, which has been increasingly rare of late. He's suffered mightily from concussions and last season played in one game before tearing his Achilles tendon and getting replaced by rookie Jon Beason who performed admirably.

According to "The REAL Feed", Delhomme is recovering, but still has a long way to go...

Panthers' Delhomme recovering well from surgery (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3248171&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines)

At least the football Jake Delhomme is throwing is the right color.

This is a situation I would monitor [smiley=radar.gif] and be concerned about if I had him in a deep keeper league.

The Panthers cut RB Foster!  I guess they were unable to trade him.

Foster was one of the most annoying backs from a fantasy perspective.  He never lived up to the hype!

"A league source tells PFT that the Carolina Panthers are close to an agreement with wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad, who became an unrestricted free agent when the Bears released him last week."

My guess is that this one goes through, and that the Panthers will do well with it.

David Carr has been given his walking papers.

He signed a 2-year $6 million contract last year. I'm sure some team will offer him the veteran minimum (and not much more) as a backup.

According to ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers have reached a two-year contract worth $1.8 million with former Carolina running back DeShaun Foster.  Foster will back-up Frank Gore.

Now if they only had a QB that is healthy (and good enough) to throw him the ball.

Hackett to get opportunity in Smith absence... according to "The REAL Feed":

Hackett may become starter with Smith's suspension (http://www.nfl.com/news/story;jsessionid=555E53978E187CF695DF58D48CCFD495?id=09000d5d809cc061&template=with-video&confirm=true)
NFL.com (06.08.2008 22:58)
After four injury-filled seasons as part of a crowded group of receivers in Seattle, D.J. Hackett cameto Carolina with the promise of more playing time.

This is somewhat noteworthy as the guy did show some flashes in Seattle.

He was money last year when he was healthy, which wasn't often enough for his owners. He's a real nice red-zone threat if you need receivers for scoring only leagues.
