Title: Raiders Offseason Report Post by Callie on Feb 14th, 2008, 12:11am Raiders resign Fargas: With the Raiders now holding four quality backs under contract, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden would appear to be out of the equation with the Raiders top pick. If Fargas can stay healthy (a pretty BIG if) I think he can have another nice season. He did well last year until once again, another injury. (knee) He could be a solid #2/3 back if he can just stay on the field. |

Title: Re: Raiders Off-Season Report Post by Philly on Feb 14th, 2008, 12:43pm I agree... I was just giving Callie a hard time. Honestly, it's all dependent upon the play of the line. Fargas is certainly talented enough to have fantasy relevance (as is Rhodes and, to a lesser degree now, Jordan). As for the fourth "quality" RB, I'm not sure whether they're referring to Michael Bush (who has never played a down of NFL football) or ReShard Lee (who is a deep backup at best who warrants no fantasy consideration). I think with the money they've thrown to Fargas now, either Jordan or Rhodes will be made available at some point. |

Title: Re: Raiders Offseason Report Post by Callie on Feb 14th, 2008, 9:03pm Well..... ;D Jordan never stays healthy. Fargas never stays healthy. Bush will be great if he can stay healthy. Rhodes can stay healthy. Lee is something that nobody knows yet. The O-line seems to be finally getting the right coaching. But guess what. The Raiders are actually in a position to go RBBC. :o |

Title: Re: Raiders Offseason Report Post by Callie on Feb 20th, 2008, 5:45pm Aso gets "exclusive" tag: EXCLUSIVE TAG FOR ASOMUGHA The Raiders didn't simply apply the franchise tag to cornerback Nnamdi Asomougha. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, they've used the "exclusive" version of the tag, which prevents Asomugha from negotiating with any other teams. As a result, the tender changes from the average of the five highest-paid cornerbacks based on 2007 cap numbers to the same average based on 2008 cap numbers. This means that the one-year tender will be worth, at a minimum, $9.8 million. And if someone like Asante Samuel signs a contract with a big 2008 roster bonus in lieu of a big signing bonus, the number will nudge even higher. The only player hit with the exclusive tag in 2007 was Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney. In 2004, the Raiders used the exclusive franchise tag on cornerback Charles Woodson. pft http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm |

Title: Re: Raiders Offseason Report Post by Callie on Mar 4th, 2008, 11:42pm Javon Walker agrees to 6-year deal with Raiders: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3277219 If he can actually be healthy, it might be interesting to see what Russell can thow to him! The terms of the deal call for Walker to receive a six-year, $55 million contract that includes more than $16 million in guarantees and pays him roughly $27 million over the first three years of the deal. Edit: Oh, yeah. And the Raiders get the Bronco's play book.... |

Title: Re: Raiders Offseason Report Post by Philly on Mar 7th, 2008, 7:20am Are the Raiders just perpetually stupid? Look at the contracts that they've given to Tommy Kelly and Javon Walker now. These are two guys who haven't proven that they can stay out of the trainer's room. |

I like Kelly too, but the contract was a bit overboard. I don't know that they needed to blow him out of the water like that. Other teams were wary of him with his ACL tear. I guess they felt that they needed some stability there with Sapp's retirement. (I do think they'll get either Dorsey or Ellis in the draft though.) |

Title: Re: Raiders Offseason Report Post by Tony_O on Mar 12th, 2008, 7:59pm The Oakland Raiders continued on the fast track to improving their receiving corps by reaching a contract with Panthers wide receiver Drew Carter. Terms of the deal -- including the length of the contract - weren't immediately known. Carter was considered one of the fastest receivers remaining on the market. With Javon Walker and Carter now added to the roster, the Raiders believe they have added more explosiveness to the offense. JaMarcus Russell is expected to be the starting quarterback this season and he has one of the strongest arms in football. The Raiders lost Jerry Porter to the Jaguars at the beginning of free agency. Carter, 26, started seven games last season for the Panthers. He was a fifth-round pick in 2004. -- John Clayton, ESPN.com |

Title: Re: Raiders Offseason Report Post by Callie on Mar 18th, 2008, 12:00pm Well, if the Raiders were set on Walker, here's some possible insight as to why they threw so much money at him. Someone was going to do it: When it became apparent Denver would release Javon Walker and he would become a free agent, Michael Smith of ESPN.com reported "At least 10 teams were in contact with Javon Walkers agent when he was released by the Denver Broncos including all four NFC East clubs, according to a source." I have read the 49ers, Bills, Panthers, and Vikings also reached out to Walker's agent Kennard McGuire regarding Walker. And that does not include the Oakland Raiders who ended up signing Walker. By my count, that is almost half of the teams in the NFL that had showed interest in signing Walker. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/13415 |

From the article: The release of a running back wasn't surprising; the identity of that back was Not really. The deal between Rhodes and the Raiders was that Rhodes would restructure but would be released if the Raiders drafted McFadden. Rhodes wanted the chance to do more than sit as an insurance policy. I'd expect Jordan to be dropped, too. The Raiders have DMAC, Fargas, M. Bush (who is ready to go). |

Title: Re: Raiders Offseason Report Post by Callie on May 5th, 2008, 5:25pm McFadden will light up Nation from Inside BayArea.com http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_9142056 Of Fantasy interest: -For all the Web chatter about McFadden's slight build and spindly legs, he was incredibly durable at Arkansas while Dorsey was in and out of the LSU lineup with myriad leg issues. If you're looking at the injury-risk factor, the Raiders definitely took the right guy. -Common misconception: Smallish running backs are more prone to get hurt playing in the NFL. Anybody ever remember Napoleon Kaufman having a serious injury? On a grander scale, Walter Payton was 5-10, 202. Barry Sanders, 5-8, 203. Curtis Martin, 5-11, 205. Injuries are the luck of the draw in football, regardless of size. -Will there be enough work for Justin Fargas and Michael Bush behind McFadden? Ask Felix Jones, who ran for 1,162 yards and scored 11 touchdowns on 133 carries as McFadden's Arkansas backup. |
