Title: NFL's homeless... Post by StegRock on Jun 13th, 2008, 11:35pm From "The REAL Feed (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm)"... [smiley=no.gif] A former... [smiley=bear.gif] Benson unclaimed on waivers, now a free agent (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3441253&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines) ESPN: NFL (13.06.2008 10:10) Any team in the NFL could have claimed running back Cedric Benson off waivers for the cost of the remainder of his contract. No one did, making him an unrestricted free agent. And, a former... [smiley=pussycat.gif] Ex-Bengals receiver Henry suspended by the NFL (http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/sports/pro/football&sa=NFL&eid=3442351) KABC: Sports (13.06.2008 18:25) |

Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Post by StegRock on Jun 15th, 2008, 1:12am Focusing on key "homeless" tailbacks... Where do you guys think the following list of guys will end up... if anywhere? Shaun Alexander Travis Henry Cedric Benson Ron Dayne And, let's include the virtually inevitable soon-to-be "homeless" LaMont Jordan ... [smiley=thinking.gif] |

Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Post by BarnabyWilde on Jun 15th, 2008, 11:46am Either Henry, Alexander or Jordan has to end up in Chicago. I don't see them going with a rookie there all season. |

Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Post by DirkDiggler on Jun 15th, 2008, 11:54am My guesses: Travis Henry - Houston Lamont Jordan - Chicago Shaun Alexander - Jets Benson - Out of the league UNTIL he gets his legal situation fixed. It's not like he is as good as Leonard Little (who can kill a person while driving drunk in 1998 and then be pulled over in in 2004 for DUI and STILL be in the league) |

Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Post by StegRock on Jun 15th, 2008, 4:33pm I'm surprised not to see any of the following teams on your list, Double-D: Denver, Buffalo, Arizona, Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, Detroit, Kansas City, Seattle (maybe), Philadelphia (maybe), Dallas (maybe), Cleveland (maybe), Tennessee (maybe), and St. Louis (maybe). I surely see them as being, at least, in the market, at least, sometime here this offseason or early in the season. [smiley=shrug.gif] Maybe I am way off... But, I actually see quite a wide-open market this year compared to last, especially if some guys don't pan out as expected and/or some of these injury rumors floating about turn out to be true. That said, the Jets and Houston are two teams I wouldn't even have on my list. Although, Alexander to the Jets does somehow seem to sound right. |

Many of those teams I thought about, but I had to choose one. Detroit and Chicago and Buffalo are three teams I considered and would not be surprised if any of them landed there. However, I believe Detroit is determined to go with Kevin Smith and the rest of their corp. Buffalo- They probably wait out the Lynch situation which should clear up soon. If he goes in the poke or gets suspened, look for the Bills to go after one of those guys. Bears- This team is a debacle. I guess they wait to see what they have in Forte. They also have Peterson and Garrett Wolfe showed some flashes last year. The other player to keep an eye on is Kevin Jones. He may emerge in Buffalo or Chicago. |

LaMont Jordan - It would be inappropriate for me to comment on Jordan since he's still under contract, but... maybe Seattle (if Duckett doesn't work out) or San Diego? I think that Kevin Jones is the most attractive of the FA RBs on the list. There will be some other cuts this summer that might throw a wrench in the works. For example, Tennessee has LenDale White and now Chris Johnson has evidently unseated last year's 2nd rounder in Chris Henry. They also have a big back in Quinton Ganther who could generate interest if he's released. I think teams will have to be very desperate (or teams that can afford to take a risk on a risky player) to sign either Benson or Henry. I don't think there will be any interest in Dayne at this point. |

Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Post by StegRock on Jun 25th, 2008, 4:36pm Here is, I think, a valid "up-beat" analysis of these guys' situations... brought to you by way of "The REAL Feed (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm)": Kirwan: Glut of running backs (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d808fca84&template=with-video&confirm=true) NFL.com (28.06.2008 15:10) Free-agent running backs are experiencing a flooded market with camp just weeks away. Any team thinking about adding a runner to the roster is in the driver's seat this year. |

Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Post by StegRock on Jun 28th, 2008, 6:04pm Another back out of work... according to "The REAL Feed": No trade: Steelers release backup RB Davenport (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3465125&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines) ESPN: NFL (28.06.2008 14:10) After shopping Najeh Davenport in hopes of a trade, the Pittsburgh Steelers have the released the running back. Given the glut, I don't know when or even if we will see Davenport back in an NFL uni. It's somewhat of a shame. This guy was never really given the chance to shine/he seemed to always get that untimely injury when he was about to get that chance. |

Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Post by steelkings on Jun 28th, 2008, 9:59pm I am hopeful that one day I will go into a Titty bar restroom and Najah Davenport will be the dude handing me a towel. I will have just taken a crap and handed the towel back to Naj. He will then learn what the phrase means..." What goes around comes around" Is it not lost on anyone that all the guys listed have somehow made themselves a menece in one way or anouther? All of them. Im not feeling real warm and fuzzy about any of them. I hope they all go nowhere! |

It's lost on me... I mean... I think you are right, excepting Alexander and Dayne. Those guys have seemed to always be pretty good guys. In any event, though, I think there are guys on teams that are or have been worse, which doesn't belie your observations but does throw a bone in the rationale of your position. |

Agreed but: The DB formally known as "Pacman" is in a position to help a team be better. So adding a cancerous asshole comes with a positive in that sense. (see Terrell Owens) The list of guys we are talking about here have dudes that either are at the end of thier careers or are a PR risk . I think Dayne falls into a different category. He's a guy that is still, after all these years, a good guy still waiting to have that break out year. He is just not going to put fans in seats. Everyone knows that Alexander 3 years ago was fantastic running behind a great O-line. After the Hawks lost a few linemen and suffered a couple of injuries Alexanders numbers really tailed off. Last year he looked slow and easy to tackle. It may take a training camp injury to get him a job unless he will play for pennies. |

LaMont Jordan, while not yet part of this homeless group, certainly hasn't done anything to sully himself during his time in the league. I'm also having trouble remembering anything negative about Kevin Jones. Neither of these guys are over the hill and neither is a PR risk. Shaun Alexander (a "good guy") is also a guy whose motivation to perform has been questioned by many. Once he signed the big contract, his performance fell. While some of the blame can certainly go to a shaky offensive line and an unsettled WR sitch, Alexander appears to be culpable as well. |

Henry violated drug policy before Broncos cut him (http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/jul/11/henry-violated-drug-policy-broncos-cut-him/) Rocky Mountain News: Broncos & NFL (11.07.2008 17:49) Travis Henry's NFL career teeters on the brink after league sources confirmed he faces a year's suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy in the weeks before the Broncos cut him. Title: Re: NFL's homeless... Post by StegRock on Sep 25th, 2008, 9:54pm A little redemption for Benson... From "The REAL Feed": Benson won't face charges from two Austin arrests (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3609632&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines) ESPN: NFL (25.09.2008 20:16) Former Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson will not face charges over his two alcohol-related arrests in the Austin area. Not to diminish the criminality and wrongness of driving under the influence, but I kind of thought all along that this stuff against Benson this summer was ticky-tacky, at least relatively speaking. I think he'll be back in uniform somewhere now in short order. |
