Title: Re: Rams In-season Report Post by rickgpin on Oct 1st, 2008, 10:27pm Sorry i am a little slow on the response steg. Here is the scoop from st louis. The Rams are taking the first step to recovery. Linehan was hired because he was the opposite of Martz, conservative and complient. That type of coach fit well into the politics of the Rams organization. The downside was bringing in cast offs (McMichael excluded) from the Vikings and Dolphins, constantly missing on draft picks(many of these decisions were made by Jay Zygmunt), and uninspired play by the aging veterans. Hopefully Chip Rosenbloom's plan is to give Coach Hasslet and Billy Devaney authority on all player decisions. It will be interesting who might be released and the impact that might have. At the end of the season, President John Shaw will retire and hopefully Jay Zygmunt will soon follow. At that point the Rams have a good opportunity to get things really moving in the right direction. My initial impression is that Chip Rosenbloom does not want to be the laughing stock of the league. Watch this space... |

Title: Re: Rams In-season Report Post by DirkDiggler on Nov 9th, 2008, 8:29am A surprise starter in St Louis. Former Alabama RB Kenneth Darby will get the start with injuries to Travis Minor and Antonio Pittman. Darby will split carries with Samkon Gado. I like Darby as a player. I watched him in the preseason two years ago at Tampa and he was a beast. I really hope he does well.....after being a 7th round draft pick. Jackson out, Darby in for Rams November 7th, 2008 @ 1:47pm ST. LOUIS (AP) - Three weeks ago, Kenneth Darby was part of the Atlanta practice squad. On Sunday, he'll be an NFL starter. St. Louis Rams coach Jim Haslett on Friday made Darby the starter for the game against the Jets in New York. Steven Jackson will sit as he continues to recover from a quad injury suffered in a game on Oct. 19 against Dallas. Darby has two carries for 9 yards in his NFL career, but believe he's prepared as St. Louis (2-6) tries to snap a two-game losing streak. "I'm ready for it," Darby said. "I've been preparing all week for it. "I know I'm ready. This is a great opportunity for me and I want to take full advantage of it. This opportunity I'm getting this Sunday is very rare for most guys, especially guys of my caliber." Jackson was unable to practice Friday, a day after Haslett said if he couldn't work out he wouldn't play against the Jets (5-3). "He didn't practice so he won't go this week," Haslett said. Samkon Gado, signed by the Rams on Tuesday, will be Darby's backup. Gado was working as an assistant in the emergency room at Providence Hospital in Columbia, S.C., and had been out of the league since not being tendered a contract as a restricted free agent by the Miami Dolphins in the offseason. Antonio Pittman, bothered by a hamstring, practiced Friday and will be available. Another backup running back, Travis Minor, is still dealing with a concussion and will not play. The Rams signed Darby off the Falcons' practice squad Oct. 15. He was a seventh-round draft choice in 2007 by Tampa Bay and played in one game for the Buccaneers, when he also had two receptions for 16 yards. He has had 12 practices with the Rams. Jackson said he will help Darby and Gado all he can. "The offense is really complicated and it is going to take all the other 10 guys helping the young guys out," Jackson said. It's a tall task. The Jets' defense, anchored by tackle Kris Jenkins, ranks fourth in rushing defense, allowing 76 yards per game. Gado said he is glad to have the chance after bouncing around the league since 2005 with Kansas City, Green Bay, Houston and Miami. He said he was training six times a week in case a team called. "This is the nature of the beast and you have to be ready when your number is called," he said. Linebacker Chris Chamberlain missed practice Friday with the flu. DE Eric Moore (spine) is out for Sunday. |

At least they are talking football in St Louis. The feeling is one of hope and excitement with John Shaw and Jay Zigmunt stepping down from the Ram's management team and the promotion of Billy Devaney to General Manager. The only way I think this gets fixed is to cut off the head and start over. So far so good. There was initial excitement with Jim Haslett as he won his first two games as head coach and seemed to have the team playing hard. The next few games were disasters as the Rams were blown out. The Rams ended the season playing hard again, but just not doing enough to win. There have been key injuries and the Rams need upgrades at a number of positions. Bottom line, I would go with Jim Haslett and give him a chance. Nothing is gained by lack of patience with coaches. I believe that if Devaney has been given the power, not just title, that the player personnel issues will be resolved and Haslett is worth a shot. The consensus in St Louis is that another unexperienced coordinator is not the answer and unless a proven head coach is available, we ought to stick with Haslett. |
