Title: Steelers In-season Report
Post by StegRock on Sep 10th, 2008, 2:57pm
Worth noting, [smiley=injury.gif] I guess, given that it's Big Ben...  From "The REAL Feed":

Roethlisberger to play with shoulder injury (http://www.realfootball365.com/index.php/articles/steelers/12604)
NFL News: RealFootball365.com (10.09.2008 08:49)
With quarterbacks dropping like flies in the AFC, the Steelers were pretty excited to get out of...

Not much of a helpful fantasy slant, though, in the "Fantasy Football Impact" section... :-/ from a fantasy-specific source, mind you. [smiley=annoyed.gif] ... [smiley=nono.gif]

Currently topping "The REAL Feed", bad news for Parker owners Week 4:

Steelers RB Parker to miss Monday night vs. Ravens (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/news.aspx?id=4181430)
The Sports Network: NFL (23.09.2008 14:16)

Mendenhall's the man... for now!

Running backfield getting thin... Mendenhall done for season... according to "The REAL Feed":

Steelers' Mendenhall fractures shoulder, will be placed on IR (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/news.aspx?id=4182713)
The Sports Network: NFL (30.09.2008 01:10)

(Do I hear Cedric Benson's phone ringing?  I honestly feel that Benson's running style could fit the Steelers to a tee.)

The Steelers will be calling someone that is for sure.  I would think Shaun Alexander would get an invite to workout as well.  Najeh Davenport will probably be invited back too.

You hit the nail on the head, Double D!  They totally stayed in house...  From "The REAL Feed":

Steelers bring back Davenport, Russell to bolster RB depth (http://www.nfl.com/news/story;jsessionid=4246D4DF139A095232F75BB43E497648?id=09000d5d80b4872d&template=with-video&confirm=true)
NFL.com (01.10.2008 20:19)
Down to one healthy running back, the Pittsburgh Steelers brought back two players from last season by re-signing Najeh Davenport and promoting Gary Russell from the practice squad on Wednesday.

Roethlisberger officially listed as questionable but doubtful by this source, at least in their headline...  In reality, there isn't much of a doubt that he will hit the field.  We just got to see how long he lasts.  From "The REAL Feed":

ROETHLISBERGER DOUBTFUL
(http://www.sportinglife.com/nfl/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=international_feed/08/10/03/GRIDIRON_USA-Pittsburgh_Roethlisberger.html)
Sporting Life: NFL (03.10.2008 17:28)
Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was limited in practice on Friday due to a shoulder problem.

Probably just rhetoric at this point, BUT with RB Parker's injuries piling up in late years and, MOREOVER, the Tomlin connection via Minnesota, it is intriguing.  Moore may have a leg up in Pittsburgh in long-run.  From "The REAL Feed":

Moore you can do - RB fits perfectly in Pittsburgh (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/nfl/wires/10/20/2020.ap.fbn.steelers.more.of.moore.0908/index.html)

Steelers to be without two of their superstar skill players on offense this week.  Parker, missing his fourth straight game, due to... [smiley=injury.gif] And, now, Holmes "deactivated" for... [smiley=kb.gif] This could be really bad news for Holmes owners if the league were to get involved.  From "The REAL Feed":

Steelers deactivate WR Holmes, RB Parker doubtful (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/news.aspx?id=4187070)

This may finally be it for Roethlisberger with this sore shoulder... according to what's atop "The REAL Feed":

Roethlisberger has MRI, status uncertain (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/nfl/wires/11/04/2020.ap.fbn.steelers.qb.0260/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (04.11.2008 13:32)

Honestly, and I have him in the GBRFL mind you, he hasn't come close to looking like the same Big Ben we've all come to know and appreciate over the last couple weeks.  He may NEED this time off.

Willie Parker probably out and Big Ben still has a chance to start.

From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette:

Quote:
Parker doesn't practice for second straight day
Thursday, November 06, 2008
By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
One game after returning from a knee injury, Pro Bowl running back Willie Parker did not practice for the second day in a row because of a shoulder injury and might not play against the Indianapolis Colts.

Parker, who missed four games with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, had 70 yards on 21 carries against the Washington Redskins. It is not known when or how he was injured in the game.

Also, Ben Roethlisberger missed practice for the second day in a row, but he will attempt to practice tomorrow in anticipation of playing against the Colts.

Sporting News is reporting that Ben Rothlisberger will start on Sunday but be on a short leash.

http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/the_sporting_blog/entry/view/14463/big_ben_will_start_sunday_despite_injury

Keep in mind that NO other sites are reporting this.  Most are listing him as probable.  Others say he is a game time decision.  Bottom line, I would stay far away from Big Ben this weekend.....

How about Willie Parker?  Is he definitely out?  I can't find any definitive word on that.  Even pieces that state, like in their titles, that he is out, actually say in the article that he "may sit", and ultimately he is officially listed as doubtful, not out.  I know he didn't practice this week.  Any help here, anyone?

Steg-

EVERYTHING I have read indicates he is out this weekend.  They all read like this:

Quote:
Willie Parker, RB, Steelers: Parker is officially listed as doubtful on the NFL injury report, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has reported that Parker will not play. The good news here is that it is not Parker's knee that is keeping him out of this week's contest. Parker played Monday night after missing four games with a medial collateral ligament sprain. He ran well Monday but apparently injured his right shoulder during the third quarter. The injury wasn't severe enough to force him out of the game, and it is not likely to cause him to miss extended time. So hang in there, Parker fantasy owners -- it looks like he will be back in your lineup next week. In the meantime, hopefully you have kept Mewelde Moore available on your roster.

Tomlin really believes Roethlisberger needs to practice during the week leading up to a game, the implication being that it's the lack of preparation more than the injury itself that's "hurting" Ben on the field on game day...  From "The REAL Feed":

Roethlisberger back in practice at Tomlin's urging (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80c70216&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true)
NFL.com (13.11.2008 00:14)
One day after Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin hinted he needed his quarterback to practice more despite his right shoulder injury, Ben Roethlisberger took the snaps with the starters Wednesday.

NFL.com (28.12.2008 22:16)
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sustained a concussion while being driven into the ground by two Cleveland Browns defenders late in the second quarter of an essentially meaningless game Sunday, but is expected to be ready for the playoffs

Big Ben's [smiley=ontheclock.gif] third serious concussion has the team proceeding slowly and with caution... according to "The REAL Feed":

Steelers likely will go slow with Big Ben's injury (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3799019&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines)
ESPN: NFL (29.12.2008 20:43)
Ben Roethlisberger might not practice after suffering a concussion on Sunday.

My only concern here for fantasy footballers heading into the playoffs is:  remember how Ben played when he missed practice during the season.  Pretty lousily! [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]
