I would say, though, that vis-a-vis Thigpen's game play and numbers up until this past week optimism should be guarded on the side of the both the Chiefs and fantasy footballers. On the other hand, it was really his first week going in with the knowledge and ease of mind of being the undisputed starter, receiving all the reps and having a total game plan built around him and his strengths and weaknesses. Passing on Culpepper, though, I don't think is a bad thing regardless of whether or not Thigpen is the long-term answer. |

Title: Re: Chiefs In-season Report Post by DirkDiggler on Dec 31st, 2008, 11:51am I remember some admin (Steg) at this site in the offseason was touting the young Tyler Thipen. It turns out that Steg was very accurate about him. He had a pretty solid year and played very well considering the talent around him. And when he could not find an open receiver, he was extremely mobile and got some rushing numbers. I happen to own him in the GBRFL and was pretty happy with his fantasy performance this year. |

Title: Re: Chiefs In-season Report Post by StegRock on Jan 1st, 2009, 7:26pm Thank you, Stevo, but I really can't take, at least, 100% credit for that. Even though I came to be high on Thigpen during the summer and very happily drafted him in the GBRFL restocking draft (and then summarily dropped him while he was part-time and playing absolutely terrible [smiley=shootmyself.gif]), it was our esteemed fantasy-footballing colleague Jeff West, Philly, that had been touting him for some time. Nice call, Jeff (although I think you were a bit too far ahead of the curve)! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I must admit, though, looking ahead, that I (don't share what I take to be your optimism about Thigpen moving forward and) think your rhetoric about Shaun Hill (who I have), vis-a-vis regime change, on the "49ers In-season Report (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55;action=display;num=1221073688)" thread applies just as much to Thigpen here. While Thippen's stats from a fantasy perspective were excellent, at least relatively speaking, down the stretch once he got the nod, Hill's stats weren't those of a slouch, either; his passer rating was fantastic, better than Thigpen's, and, also with a poor team mind you, his win-loss record, which is the bottom line, has been great, again WAY better than Thigpen's, and this includes his 3-and-0, excellent statistical run at the end of last season, NOT under Martz. So, while I don't entirely disagree with you as regards Hill, I don't see Thigpen's situation looking forward as a diametrical opposite. |
