Honestly, though, I just don't think Martz-to-San Fran was a good idea. It was bringing in a system without well-thought-out consideration of their player personnel. I don't know what management was thinking. Outside of, perhaps, Frank Gore, it's just not a good fit and will continue not to be for the foreseeable future.

I want to finally briefly chime in on newly-appointed head coach Mike Singletary's public chastisement of Vernon Davis toward the end of last Sunday's game against the Seahawks. His making an example of Davis was his way of, right out of the gate, setting an example moving forward that he is no-nonsense. However, regardless of what specifically prompted him to decide to throw Davis under the bus at that moment, I thought it was a really poor move. Davis, earlier in the game in the second quarter, gave perhaps the best effort on the day for the 49ers when he all alone hoofed it over 75 yards on that interception-return touchdown and almost caught the guy. With his effort there Davis had at least earned a pass on being called and drug out on the carpet during the game. As a head coach, you can't lose sight of the bigger picture. I fear that Singletary did there, and hearing that he dropped trou during his halftime speech to the team in order to exhibit the embarr"ass"ment of their play and their getting their asses kicked only goes to further show that he was trying too hard to assert himself and overdoing it. Because he is who he is, he probably hasn't lost the team already, but he won't last long if he doesn't get his act together better than he did this past Sunday. Honestly, considering it all, I wonder whether or not Singletary has the intellect and right psychological sensibility to be a head coach in the NFL. If he does, he surely didn't exhibit it in his first game as a head coach.

I wonder if this is good for Shaun Hill... From a statistical standpoint, it would seem not. But, from a "political" standpoint, it seems like it could be a good thing for Hill as he surely was not Martz's guy, and if he's not playing, it doesn't matter what his stats could be. It seemed, especially in that big comeback in St. Louis, where Singletary wanted to bench him and he convinced him on the sidelines not to, that he was Singletary's guy, at least to the degree that such can be said.
