Could the Broncos be moving toward a 3-4 D? That's what this writer from one of the LOCAL dailies on "The REAL Feed" intriguingly suggests:

Now, about that defense. Yes, the Broncos are 3-0 and scoring points like Air Coryell. Their offense ranks second in the NFL. Everyone except them is amazed. In private, they might even be a little bit amazed.

Remember that Peyton Hillis (who had a nice week 9) also played tailback in college and could be in line to get some carries this week. Honestly, this looks like a situation to avoid (as always) unless you're desperate.

With Young's groin still cranky, it may be Peyton Hillis gettin' the rock [smiley=footballsmiley.gif] for the next little while. Given the perennial uncertainty anymore in the Broncos' running backfield and given that Hillis is actually the team's fullback, I would recommend being modest in your expectations.

I do not disagree at all... I liked Mike, but he had, at this point, overstayed his welcome, for sure. In the early years, I thought he was fantastic and coached to his talent. But, in these late years, he seemed megalomaniacal with the running game. It seemed like he was hell-bent on proving the supremacy of his run scheme by, at least, showing that he could plug anyone into it (which, as I intimated in a post above, I think facilitated injuries) and, at worst, plugging in and trying to make a star out of some no-name rookie free-agent. [smiley=no.gif] Furthermore, as many of you who know me already know, I did NOT like what he (the team under his watch) did to Jake Plummer and Ron Dayne. I think Dayne could have been very solid in a Denver running attack (and in letting him do so would have allowed this heck-of-a good guy to redeem himself), and I thought Plummer was a Bronco through-and-through and made to play in Denver and, in any event, had a fine win-loss record with us. Make no mistakes... His fleeing from the NFL had all to do with the Broncos turning their backs on him and hurting him very deeply, I believe.

I am squarely against this decision. I do feel Shanahan would have left/been relieved of his duties no matter what. I think Shanahan needed to give up his GM duties and concentrate on coaching, and I doubt he wanted to give that up. So, that probably prompted the final move.

For Shanahan to be the #1 coaching candidate immediately after his firing says a ton. He won 62% of his games in Denver. I don't see the next coach being able to repeat that task, making his stay potentially very short (not necessarily his fault). Having said all that, I firmly believe that the Denver job may be the best coaching gig (for sure top 5) in the NFL.

My bottom line is this: if he ends up in KC (a place where full control is a possibility now with Peterson out), that will end up biting the Broncos seriously in the short term. If his next job is strictly coaching, I do believe he will win another title.
