Title: Re: Eagles Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Jun 3rd, 2009, 8:35pm Westbrook already ailing... From "The REAL Feed": Agent: Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook to undergo surgery (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4228976&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines) ESPN: NFL (03.06.2009 18:52) Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will have surgery to clean up some bone spurs in his right ankle, according to his agent Todd France. This is definitely HUGE news. This has been an injury that has been going on and on. I would think IF Westbrook is back by week one, he may be limited. In addition, they are definitely going to be limiting the carries. McCoy's value definitely goes up! I guess the Eagles actually knew what they were doing on draft day! |

I think in the wake of Westbrook's sore ankle, a KEY body part for a tailback mind you, and surgery, which will keep him out until the start of the season, the Eagles should look to sign a player TO MY SURPRISE not listed by ESPN's "NFL Live", J.J. Arrington! Assuming Arrington is 100%, he showed some serious flashes last year and reminds me much more of a Westbrook-type player than any of the others they listed and, moreover, has the size and, more importantly, experience the kiddies in Philly, McCoy and, say, Booker, don't have. If given the chance (in Philly and Westbrook is on his way out, or somewhere), I could honestly see his career going like Thomas Jones's or the Barber [smiley=afro.gif] Tiki's ;) did. ...and there's the rub, my friend. He's not. He failed his physical in Denver because of the knee issues. I too like Arrington if he's healthy, but there's no sense of urgency for the Eagles right now. There are enough backs still on the market that they can sit back and wait to gauge the progress that Westbrook's ankle is making. They'll also give McCoy a chance to show his worth and Booker can work to develop a better understanding of the offense. If the Eagles do sign a RB, I think they'd be better served by going with someone more like Edgerrin James, Samkon Gado, or DeShaun Foster ... a bigger guy who could complement McCoy better. |

Title: Re: Eagles Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Jul 24th, 2009, 3:28pm This is, of course, sad news, but also noteworthy for fantasy footballers playing in leagues with the commonplace D/ST format. So, what do yous think??? This is surely something worth chewing the fantasy fat over!!! My quick take,... for the Eagles you can spin this positive, or you can spin this negative. For fantasy, you can spin this positive, or you can spin this negative. Without piling the assumptions on too high and getting in too deep, my only thought is that we KNOW how impatient Philly, especially, Eagle fans can be, especially with McNabb, an impatience that the team management has even exhibited, mind you, with backups far inferior and, at least, sexy than Vick and most notably just last year when McNabb was benched. Anyway, just my thoughts without laying it on too thick too fast... With that said, let me append this related piece which is currently atop "The REAL Feed": Line of Scrimmage: Vick Signing Brings More Questions Than Answers (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/news.aspx?id=4247896) The Sports Network: NFL (13.08.2009 22:06) |

Title: Re: Eagles Offseason Report Post by DirkDiggler on Aug 14th, 2009, 7:13pm Steg- This situation is going to be interesting to watch. From a fantasy perspective, I have no idea what to expect from Vick. I am not even sure what position he is going to play. He could line up as a RB or FB. He could then either run it or throw it. He could line up as WR. OR, he could just sit on the bench. Personally, as an Eagles fan, I am not happy with the signing. He MAY prove to be a great player again, but I do not want to root for him. However, I have no doubt at some point I will be cheering a play he makes because I am a HUGE Eagles fan and so is my son. |

Title: Re: Eagles Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Aug 14th, 2009, 10:40pm I think that Merrill Hoge's take is right that, based on the structure of the contract, the big second-year option, and the team's incessant rhetoric that Vick is a "quarterback" combined with McNabb's well-documented increasingly tenuous tenure with the team and, moreover, the presumable comparability of a younger McNabb's game with Vick's, Vick, while perhaps seeing some time as a gadget player this year, is being viewed as a much more suitable and skilled backup and ultimately heir apparent to McNabb than Kolb, who has shown nothing to instill any confidence in the team. |
