This week, my opponent had the following lineup.
Favre
Faulk
McAllister
Conway
TrBrown
KRobinson
Akers
Broncos D

Because he was starting Faulk, I decided to bench my first round pick, Peyton M, and start Bulger in order to capitialize on any screen passes for TDs. I started
Bulger
Garner
J Stewart
A Hakim
T Heap
C Chambers
J Hall
Titans D

Before the game, I asked friends how much they thought I would lose by. Most people were guessing a loss by about 40. Scores came out today, I won 152-114 with 61 points on my bench with Manning and R. Wayne(my David Boston replacement).

Seems to me that you can know a lot (which I do) and still have to depend on lady luck to get you wins. (which I did). Gotta love sitting your #1 and getting 40 pts out of your backup.... [smiley=gettinridden.gif]

Dullo, welcome aboard! Glad the switcheroo worked for ya, but I'd be remiss in not advising anybody to ignore your opponents roster in determining your own. As you can see in your own example, it appears to have worked, but had absolutely nothing to do with Bulger cancelling out any Faulk production. You'd have won with Manning.

Sure, luck plays a huge part in FF. My team is #1 in the league in allowing the fewest opponent points. That has absolutely nothing to do with me, but it has helped me win on a number of occasions.

(Before anyone thinks my team isn't legit, I am also #2 in the league in total points scored, so I'm good AND lucky.)

My opponent this week was starting McNabb and Staley. Common sense would tell you that the two of them (coming off good point efforts against some nice defenses) would do VERY well this week. They didn't. I won by about 15 points and that made the difference for me with Priest Holmes and Steve McNair having slow weeks statistically.

It would be easy for me to jump on the "luck" bandwagon. In one of my money leagues, I have the highest scoring team and only have a 5-5 record... I probably won't make the playoffs. However, I believe that over the long run the luck evens out and the make or break factors become work and skill.

Luck may get you a win here or there, but the people who do their research and put the most effort into their teams will finish ahead of Mr. Lucky most of the time. Every team has their superstars and they will balance each other out over the long run. It's the teams that go the extra mile and find the sleeper that makes the difference. ;)
