Title: Ima gonna host a fun little contest Post by FourTwoOh on Dec 23rd, 2002, 2:49pm I've played in a little playoff contest the last 3 years that is fairly quick and I think, a lot of fun. The Sporting News hosted it as a freebie last year and along with the free salary cap league that I played there have taken it to a pay game this year. Screw that! You are all welcome to join in if you'd like. I run it from right here. The premise: From a set list of players {qb, rb, wr}, you will pick one each to score the most points in that weekends playoff game. Scoring will be 1 pt per yard and 60 points for any td. The catch, if you will, is once you use a player, he is no longer available to you. One and done. So not only do you need to factor in who goes big this week, but who goes home, as well. Obviously I can't set the list of players yet as the AFC refuses to cooperate and pick it's playoff teams. ;D Full rules and al to follow, but wanted to get this out there before people cashed it in for the season. It's just a fun way to finish off the year and take a little edge off of that fantasy withdrawl so common this time of year. Anybody and every body welcome. Just watch this thread for more info. As a heads up, the list of players will be made from each NFL playoff team's: qb - 1 from each real playoff team rb - top 2 scorers from each rpt {using this scoring} wr - top 2 wr and top te {used as a wr in this} from each rpt There may be some exceptions. Eagle qb comes to mind. List Feely or McNabb? May have both in that and any other similar situations. There will be links to my web site for "research" of how players did in this scoring system and that sort of thing. Invite some of your outside league mates to sign up and join in as well. The more the merrier! The only effect of getting this as large as possible would be in how quickly I can report that weeks results. Having "no life" will finally be an asset! The challenging part is, you cannot pick any player more than once over the duration of the playoffs. While it's quick and easy to make your picks, you'll need to strategize to figure out when to pick each player. Selecting A Team: Each week you will choose three players: one Quarterback, one Running Back, and one Wide Receiver from the list I provide. You can only use each player once! Once you select a player for a particular weekend, that player will not be available to you during the rest of the playoffs. Each weekend you will have to make sure you have selected three NEW players by the Picks Freeze - 12pm ET on the day of the first games of each weekend during the playoffs. Scoring: The players you picked will earn points based on their on-field success that weekend. Points will be awarded in the following manner: Yards (Passing + Receiving + Rushing): 1 point per yard Touchdowns (Rushing + Receiving + Passing + Kick and Punt Return): 60 points per TD Picks Freeze (12pm EST the day of the first games of each weekend during the Playoffs): You must select three NEW players each weekend. There is a picks freeze the day of the first games of each weekend during the Playoffs at 12PM ET. You will only be awarded points that weekend for the players you've picked by that time. I'll not be checking for dupes until I tally each weeks scores, so if you accidently use the same player more than once, you will recieve zero points at that player's position. Along those lines, I will post my weekly selestions here by Wednesday of each week. The GBRFL will take second stage while "the Gridiron" will be in the spotlight. :) So, in specific answer to your question, no, not everybody here is in the GBRFL (or any of the "associated leagues"). You can actually see one's (associated) league affiliation by looking over to the left of the posts at the titles of the users. As a matter of fact, to the GBRFLers this is really just an overblown spinoff on our old league trash-talkin' page. As for the other leagues listed in the "Associated Leagues" section of the forum, they are part of a substantive network of leagues, known as the Fantasy Football League Alliance (FFLA), that has been forming since 1999. In short, it is one of those innovative endeavors of mine that might somehow someday meld with "the Gridiron". All of these leagues are well-established leagues with a quality internet presence. More information on the leagues can be found by visiting: http://www.geocities.com/naffliu/Partner.html (the QFL has yet to be added on that page). As far as playing in those leagues, it would just be up to you to make contact on your own. I would not hold my breath, though. The attrition rates of the FFLA leagues are quite low. That's why they are in the FFLA. The only exception would be the CBFL which will just be a spinoff on OUR first mock draft for 2003 here on "the Gridiron". Spots will be open to those who have contributed here the most (enthusiastically) up until that time, which I suspect will be in late May/early June. If you are interested, start puckerin'! :-* ;D ;) HOWEVER, ALSO WORTHY OF NOTE, "Gridiron" leagues will probably spring up around here during the off-season.
