Byron Leftwich
Quarterback
Marshall University
6-6 250 pounds

There is little doubt that Leftwich is the best pro prospect at the quarterback position. He is huge, just what NFL scouts are looking for in a pocket passer. He could suffer much like Davis Carr did if he starts right away behind a weak offensive line, but give him some time, and he could put up some solid numbers. His footwork isn't that terrific and he has some slight mechanical problems that can be adjusted in time with proper coaching.

Prospect: Could go to Cincinnati at one, Chicago at four, or couild slip all the way down to the nine spot for the Panthers.

This guy will end up being the BEST get of the '03 Draft, at least on the offensive side of the ball (providing he doesn't end up in one of the NFL's black holes).  In two or three years, he'll be lightin' it up.  Think Steve McNair!  I think he would be a great fit in Dallas, Chicago, Miami if Jay Fiedler continues to be sketchy, Tampa Bay for when B. J. can no longer go, Washington if the Ramsey experiment fails, Jacksonville in preparation for life without Brunell, which is going to come about sooner or, read than, later, Green Bay for when Favre retires, which is seeming more and more imminent, Carolina in that he reminds me of a younger, better Peete, or Baltimore where, if Redman does not work out, someone young is going to have to step in and take the reigns eventually.  This guy will be a FANTASY MONSTER within three years as long as he does not wind up in Arizona or Cincinnati or a team where he will not see action for like three to five years.
