Title: ***NFL Draft Player Preview: Larry Johnson***

Larry Johnson
Running Back
Penn State
6-2, 225 pounds

There are many people who are scared to draft a Penn State running back after some of the busts that have come out of the school (Curtis Ennis, Kijana Carter). Johnson is different. He combines great size and speed along with very good receiving ability, probably the best hands in the draft for a running back. A big knock on LJ is his slow first step getting to the ball. Once he hits the hole, he has good instincts and makes good, quick decisions. He could take some time to adjust to playing at the pro level much like William Green did for Cleveland this year.

Draft status: I see Johnson going late in the frst round, possibly to New England. If he slips to the second round, you may see Detroit or Dallas take interest in him.

I just wanted to bring this back up with today's lunch and second what KJ 76 states.  This guy rots.  Just think Blair Thomas, Curtis Enis when you are tempted to draft him next year and then DON'T!

I actually think he could do something in the NFL.  I know that Penn State running backs really have sucked in the NFL., (see florida qb's)  but in the given the opportunity he could be decent.  Is he going to be great?  No way.  But could he be decent....  yes...and definitely worth a shot in a keeper league.

Just like in college, he'll have "big" games against the weak defenses and have terrible games against the "semi-good" to "great" defenses.

In  the NFL there aren't that many weak defenses, so his chances of producing are slim, unless he's in the same division as the worst run defense in the league...

Thought this piece by John Clayton was a good read:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/clayton_john/1511882.html.

Focuses on the issue of the lackluster, to say the least, performances of Penn State running backs in the NFL.  Also, contains a lot of quotes from Johnson himself.  Some good info.  Just wanted to share it! [smiley=smurf.gif]
