Title: ***NFL Draft Preview: Kelley Washington*** Post by BarnabyWilde on Jan 29th, 2003, 12:30am Kelley Washington Wide Reciever Tennessee 6-3, 225 pounds There is no question that Kelley Washington has NFL talent. Ask him, he'll tell you. This college teammate of current New Orleans Saints rookie receiver Dante Stallworth is as brash as they come. But he can back up his cockiness with some downright scary skills. He is extremely fast and strong, but he has had some injuries in the past, including neck surgery, which may have some NFL teams scared off. Draft prognosis: Could go in the late first round, to maybe Atlanta or Tennessee, or he could slip into the early second, to Arizona, or Jacksonville. |

Title: Re: ***NFL Draft Preview: Kelley Washington*** Post by Philly on Jan 29th, 2003, 10:50pm Is he just cocky or does he have "issues" (e.g., Randy Moss)? I would love for the Eagles to land a stud WR. Freddie Mitchell had that cockiness, but doesn't appear to have the NFL-skills to back it up. |

Title: Re: ***NFL Draft Preview: Kelley Washington*** Post by BarnabyWilde on Jan 29th, 2003, 10:57pm There are some character issues there. Don't know how big they are, but from what I have read, he should be okay. Some scouts have said if he came out last year, he would have went before Stallworth in the draft. |

Remember, he is now entering his third year of the dreaded "west coast offense". This is typically when receivers start to thrive. Look at what tooth pick legs Pinkston managed to do this year. I truly believe has much more talent than Pinkston, and I believe Mitchell will emerge this year as the second starter. Then just wait til what he does next year....... With all that being said, I think the Eagles need to sign another WR this year. A quality veteran guy, ala Antonio Freeman. |

Pinkston only looked consistently good when Detmer/Feeley was the QB. Where was he in the playoffs? I don't buy this crap about it takes 3 years to fully understand the West Coast offense. Gruden brought it to Tampa Bay and it took them all of about 10 games to get it running nicely. Mitchell STILL runs the wrong routes. McNabb doesn't like throwing to him for precisely this reason. He feels Thrash knows the offense the best and is in the right position most often, so that's why he goes to him. Nevermind that Thrash has the fewest WR skills of the bunch. Yes, the Eagles need to sign a quality WR in the offseason. They need to dump Thrash and there's a good chance that Freeman won't be back. Next year (hopefully): #1 - Peerless Price #2 - Todd Pinkston #3 - Freddie Mitchell #4 - Freddie Milons |
