Title: ***NFL Draft Preview: Chris Simms***
Post by BarnabyWilde on Feb 4th, 2003, 8:13pm
Chris Simms
Quarterback
Texas
6-4 220 pounds

There is no doubt Simms has the tools to play in the NFl. He comes from good stock (father Phil of course) and hsa been around the game all of his life.  Simms has a nice touch and throws a nice deep ball as well. He has good mechanics and excellent footwork as well. A big knock on Chris is that he performs poorly in big games. He also has trouble recognizing and handling the blitz. Until he can overcome these obstacles he will not be an NFL starter.

Draft Prognosis: Simms should go in the second round of the draft, maybe to Dallas, Denver or San Francisco.

Every time I saw this guy play in college, he stunk-up the joint.

Could he be one of those guys who is a back-up for 3 or 4 years at the pro level before becoming a legit starter?

Personally, I hope Simms never plays in the NFL.  As bad as an announcer as Phil Simms is for CBS, I can not imagine anything worse than having to hear Phil Simms talking about his son playing QB.

Dirk, you shouldn't have any worries as I will be explaining below.  Simms ain't headin' for the AFC, which will decrease the likelihood that papa cheeseball gets to swoon over sonny-boy all too often...

I'm tellin' ya's now Chris Simms is going to Dallas and I think this has been in the back of the Tuna's head since day one.  Simms played for Texas, an instate college team, and is from the lineage, i.e. "loinage," of Mr. Phil Simms and we all know what Parcells and Phil accomplished together.  Bill has known sonny there since he was like four years old.  To me, the (unusual and not typically considered type of) connections are abound, so much so that they cannot not be taken extremely seriously, and whether Bill and Phil were star-struck lovers or not, Bill's relationship with his son is.  Parcells will immediately command a TON of GENUINE, i.e. genuinely fostered, respect from the youngster, whom he will easily be able to mold.   In any event (well, I guess not in this case :-/ :-[ ;D ), remember you first heard this theory here on "the Gridiron"! :D If Simms doesn't end up in Dallas... this Fanball here sure is a nice site, isn't it? ;) [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif]

Christina Simms will be absolutely awful in the NFL.  I am an avid Longhorn and watching him for the past three years I can tell you...he has an arm, but he has no guts.  He'd rather throw an interception than get sacked.  He CANNOT read defenses...the offensive coaches at Texas had to simplify the playbook just for him.  He CANNOT look off a receiver...he fixates and throws come hell or high water.  He CANNOT perform against a decent defense.  Most NFL teams have decent defenses.

I believe he will perform worse than Cade McNown over the first five years of his career.

Nice piece on Chris Simms.  Talks about the difficulty he is having shaking the tag of being a loser in big games, mentioning all the relevant stats.  It is also the first piece that I have seen that speculates on the intriguing prospect of his landing in Dallas with coach Parcells, something that was originally firmly asserted here on "the Gridiron" way back (as you can see above) by yours truly! [smiley=swollenhead.gif] These slackers are just catchin' up ;) :
