Title: *** NFL Draft Player Preview: Bryant Johnson*** Post by BarnabyWilde on Feb 14th, 2003, 2:01pm Bryant Johnson Wide Receiver Penn St. 6-2 210 pounds Bryant is an interesting prospect. He is still learning the position but has much improved himself over the last season. He has good size, great hands and leaping ability, and has the ability to shield himself from defenders while making the catch. One weakness is he doesn't have break away speed. He is supposedly adding weight to his frame to become more attractive on draft day. Draft prognosis: Should be a solid late second round pick, although I've seen a few mocks where he goes higher. Guess will see how he fares in the combo. |

Title: Re: *** NFL Draft Player Preview: Bryant Johnson** Post by DirkDiggler on Feb 14th, 2003, 11:23pm I see him going to the Eagles in round 1(30th pick) if they do not sign Peerless Price. While I don't necessarily agree with this pick, he would be a local fan favorite. |

Title: Re: *** NFL Draft Player Preview: Bryant Johnson** Post by Philly on Feb 19th, 2003, 2:17pm I don't think the Eagles will go receiver in the first round. They still have faith that Freddie Mitchell will (eventually) be their go-to-guy. I'd expect them, with their low first-round pick, to go for the best DE (because they may lose Douglas and Derrick Burgess just underwent another surgery for his broken foot) or TE (Chad Lewis was much less effective this year and will probably not be back next year). |

Read today the Eagles will probably "tag" Douglas. They were NOT going to, but with the doubts surrounding Burgess they do not want to lose him. |

Title: Re: *** NFL Draft Player Preview: Bryant Johnson** Post by Philly on Feb 19th, 2003, 10:52pm I heard the same thing being discussed on the local sports-radio station. Ray Didinger (NFL Films insider, and journalist extraordinaire) discussed that possibility this morning. Even if the Eagles throw the tag on Hugh, there is a good chance they may not re-sign him. He should get a nice offer somewhere else (quality DEs are hard to come by) and the Eagles may not choose to match. |
