Title: Fantasy Football Frenzy- Looking for Members Post by Cirrinone on Apr 16th, 2003, 3:13pm I'm a fantasy football FANATIC, and I've created a league with a new type of concept. See the link below and check us out. If it's popular, I may expand on how many leagues there are, or teams there are in one league. I hope to receive some e-mails of interest. Currently it's priced at $50 and $500 will go out in prizes. Since $50 won't be enough to give out another $500 in prizes the second season, if you want it to be a keeper league (which I'm more than willing to do), then an additional $50 the next season will be needed. There will be plenty of cash prizes. I'm working on setting up a paypal account so you guys can make payment through there, but if you live in the U.S., mail is always an option also. Contact me if you have any questions at twiztedvizionz@hotmail.com or jcirrinone21 on AIM or morallydisgraced on Yahoo. Thanks for your time and cooperation, Jon |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- A Whole New Level Post by Cirrinone on Apr 16th, 2003, 3:30pm Oh, and by the way, for it to be viewed correctly your Internet Explorer text setting must be set to medium (which it is when you buy Windows-- unless you're on a Mac and/or you did something to modify your settings). To change yours, go to "View" on the toolbar, then Text Size, then medium. Then the site should look fine. :o) |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- A Whole New Level Post by Philly on Apr 16th, 2003, 10:29pm Keep posting here and let us get to know you. I don't know too many people who are going to pull $50 out of their wallets and send it off to a stranger right off the bat. That being said, there are a number of people here who I wouldn't think twice about sending money to for a league, and some of them I've only talked to on here for a few months. |

Philly here is right [smiley=bullseye.gif]! And, as you said, Cirrinone (perhaps to be known as the O.G. [smiley=gunsablazin.gif] of "the Gridiron" someday), there is not much to know about you... Well, every person has "depth/depths" ;) and the way we will get to know you is by your posts, the more we read from you, the more we will know about you... the more likely dudes will be willing to drop a couple bucks on your league. I completely understand where you are coming from with your ultimate goal here of trying to put together your "Fantasy Football Frenzy" league and establish your site, and I thoroughly realize you want to "cut to the chase." I've been there! Take it from years of experience, that when it comes to things like your venture, that m.o. ain't gonna' work, at least not well. You are going to have to at least invest in becoming an integral part of some on-line FF community, perhaps even a couple. There are other communities that are larger, less close-knit and much more callous. On those sites, when it comes to plugging your site, the response will be lukewarm at best and somewhat lacking in sincerity, empathy, supportiveness or understanding of what you are up to, which is not bad, but does make you a "man with motives", or at least appear that way. However, your posts may meet with more eyes. You may get a guy here and a guy there, but your efforts will not be efficient as you might think posting at a larger forum might lend itself to. Also, recruiting guys in a scattered way like that will lend itself to apathy in your league. Here, your investment of posts overall, including those not on your venture, will probably bear more fruit; i.e., you will probably realize better efficiency. We are a very open-armed, open-minded, tight-knit bunch. You take the time and make a sincere effort to join "the family" here and you will probably get better results regarding your ultimate goal and get a group of guys, who are going to be diligent and stick with it, to join your league. [smiley=zenmaster.gif] Ultimately, though, bottom line, and this basically applies to all these kinds of message-board forums, your sincerity or insincerity will be accordingly met, i.e., if you are always beating your drum plugging your site, guys are going to see through that and the response will be according, i.e. insincere back. [smiley=zenmaster.gif] To really achieve success in what you are doing, you are going to have to make the investment, if not in money, then in time and keystrokes, and show your sincere commitment to both the hobby and the fellas. [smiley=zenmaster.gif] Back to here, your success rate, if you do that, will probably be good and efficiently obtained. At other places, your voice may get drowned out and your attempts to blend in may get lost in the shuffle, irrespective of your genuine attempts at sincerity, assuming they are present. |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- A Whole New Level Post by StegRock on Apr 29th, 2003, 12:46pm Hey, fellas, Just a note to all of our members! As per our "Looking for a League" thread, there is going to be a GBRFL-style league that I will run; the CBFL will be based on OUR First-ever Mock Draft, which I expect to do around the end of May/mid-June, and I am sure you guys will be putting other stuff together, as well. HOWEVER, let me just say that Jon's Cirrinone's league here, the FFFL, is definitely worth checking out. His FFFL is no longer just an independent venture. As you might have been able to tell from the FFFL's being added to our "Associated Leagues" section, the FFFL was just recently accepted into our Fantasy Football League Alliance (FFLA). This means that by joining Jon's league you will get to enjoy not only the benefits of being in a great league in its own right, I am sure, but also the rewards, current and potential, of being in an FFLA league. Obviously, as for current rewards, you get to use that nice FFFL board in our esteemed "Associated Leagues" section. But, moreover, the FFLA is a part of StegRock's (got to love third-person references to thyself, and then the use of reflexive biblical language to boot [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif] ) slowly, but steadily unraveling "Grand Master ([smiley=jammaster.gif]) Plan" for FantasyFootballer.com and FFPlayers.com, which includes the "Gridiron" and its continued growth and improvement, the GBRFL and GBRFL-style leagues, our unique CBFL, the additions of new features to "the Newsstand" and our "Fantasy Articles" section ([smiley=wiseguy.gif]), constant adding to and honing of "The REAL Feed", the establishment of a substantive FF network by way of specially interwoven relationships with other sites by which we act primarily as the externally-hosted message board for the network, and, finally, to reiterate, the FFLA and its constituent leagues. As the FFFL is in its inaugural season and Jon has obviously made a home for himself here, the FFFL is a great way for each of you individually to become more of a part of this mission of mine here via this FFLA thing, and, moreover, if the FFFL fills up with Gridironers, it as a league could become more of a central player in the FFLA and, in turn, that "Grand Master ([smiley=jammaster.gif]) Plan"! It also is just another venue for all you all to get to know one another better! Well, I hope you all at least entertain the notion and check Jon's web site out (again). Links are provided both herein by Jon and on the index page of the forum in the FFFL's board description where it says "Fantasy Football Frenzy League"! Enjoy! [smiley=lickinmychops.gif] Be in touch! Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- A Whole New Level Post by Cirrinone on Apr 29th, 2003, 2:50pm Thanks for your efforts Steve! Hey guys, I haven't received much interest from you or other web-surfers. Not quite sure why that is, BUT... if there is something you would like to see done to the page, the league concept, or anything that would increase not only yours', but others' interest as well, PLEASE let me know and I will take action. I thought making the draft an auction-style draft would attract a few of you, because in another thread, you were all going crazy at the idea. Guess that didn't work, so PLEASE let me know what I can do to draw your interest. Any and all ideas are appreciated, Jon |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- A Whole New Level Post by StegRock on May 25th, 2003, 1:30pm In this case, I suppose I am performing my role as "Borg of the FFLA" [smiley=borg.gif] as opposed to my usual "Borg of the Gridiron" [smiley=borg.gif] role! Point being, this is just a mere bump to the top of the page for the sake of lending a hand to our esteemed member and friend Cirrinone on getting his FFFL off the ground and on to a memorable inaugural season. |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- A Whole New Level Post by Walker Boh on May 25th, 2003, 2:09pm Hey Jon, sorry you're not having any luck so far. I commissioned my baseball league this year and I know how hard it is to fill the slots. I asked EVERBODY... made posts on several message boards and I still had a hard time filling it up. I hit everyone up here at the Gridiron and I didn't get a single taker! :'( In the end, I was only able to get one person to join that wasn't a personal friend of mine. I was so desperate, I even offered to pay league dues to get people to join! (My brother took me up on that deal...>:() Don't give up, there's a long way to go. ;) For me personally, I'm trying to decrease the amount of leagues I play in. Over the past few years, I played in so many leagues that I didn't know who I was rooting for anymore. I have a suggestion for you. Perhaps you can change the league from a money league to a free league. I'm sure you're an honest guy, but it's hard (and stupid) to put a lot of trust in a complete stranger. Make it a free league to start, with the intention of converting to a pay league in the near future. Give people a chance to get to know you, while at the same time, learning the rules of the league and working out all the glitches. Let them play, then they'll pay! ;) Just an idea. Good luck. |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- A Whole New Level Post by Cirrinone on May 25th, 2003, 2:24pm Yeah, Steve mentioned that and now with two opinions pointing in that direction, that may be the way I go. I think there's always those people that will join knowing it's free and ALSO knowing my intentions of converting it to a pay-league, but when it becomes a pay-to-play, they'll ditch. Do you think I would have some luck lowering it to maybe 20 bucks on entry, instead of 50, which would STILL give out prize $$ to winners? |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- A Whole New Level Post by StegRock on May 25th, 2003, 3:24pm That would help, Jon, I suppose... I mean asking for less money is, well, asking for less money, but it's not going to be a make-or-break change. Really, guys, more than anything, see things in terms of "money" and "free"! Another option would be to give the guys who join the option. In other words, get them to join without anything in stone and then make the decision democratically. The very fact that you would be doing it that way will probably be attractive to dudes, in and of itself. It is a way to get people "participating" right from the get-go and it shows that you are willing to give guys a "say in the running of things," which everybody likes. I think that would be the way to go, that is if you are willing to do it for free if it comes to that. However, let me say this, if you leave it up to them (of course, you yourself would get a vote, too), they will actually probably agree to play for some amount of dollars. [smiley=wiseguy.gif] Now we're talkin'! [smiley=bow.gif] |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- Looking for Members Post by PA Outlaws on May 26th, 2003, 4:19pm Personally, I think your best bet is to make it a free leagur for your first year! Once you get your league running for a year, it should be easy to bump it up to $20 or $50 bucks next year! Just my .02 |

I think your problem is common for commishes. People are already in leagues and are hesitant to join another or hesitant to drop a league they are already affiliated with. Ultimately, this is good for you. It may not seem like it, but you don't want a guy to join just to ditch it next year. Take me for example, I am already in two leagues affiliated with the GridIron and am not looking to add another. That is just too much fantasy for me and I have no rooting interests. My players play against each other and I don't know who to root for. |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- Looking for Members Post by Cirrinone on May 26th, 2003, 6:17pm True. I guess maybe I'll just try to fill the league with members and fully notifying them before their entrance that it COULD become a pay league. Once it's full with 16 guys, then I could hold a vote maybe? I've come to realization that $50 is hard to get out of each guy in a league's first season, but whether making it free or just simply lowering entrance price is still on my mind. I think you get more dedicated owners with more interest in the league when there's something at stake for them to lose, while something at stake for them to gain also. No one wants to lose $$, so people will actually try... And yes Keyshawn, I do have MSN. twiztedvizionz@hotmail.com. Thanks for your interest. |

Well, that may be the conventional thinking. But, really, it is more about how enthusiastically, diligently and genuinely the commissioner (you) runs things. Taking money from the get-go has a way of, de facto, undermining that last attribute. I think "selling" people more on "you", your enthusiasm, what your goals are with your league, your web site, how you plan to commission your league, your passion for the hobby as a hobby, and the like rather than selling them on/focusing on "cash" will produce more fruitful results. Well, anyway, that's my take (based on my experience at least). [smiley=whatever.gif] |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- Looking for Members Post by Philly on Jun 19th, 2003, 4:32pm I checked out your website again today Jon, and it looks great. But I do have some problems with the set-up... First off, I'm hesitant to sign up because I already play in a money league with some close friends and I'm not sure my wife would appreciate me throwing more money into the sport... I initially indicated some concern about sending money off to someone I didn't know, but in the time you've spent here, you seem to be legit and a trustworthy guy. Still... more money is an issue for me. Also, I am really having a problem with the league rules. I don't like the idea of having to choose players from a certain division each week. It seems inherently confusing, excessive, and possibly even unfair depending upon the division a player gets (stuck with) each week. I've never done an auction draft before, so that intrigues me. Once again, like the money issue, I only have so much time and live drafts take quite a bit of that. If you got rid of the cost (at least for this year) and went with a more traditional roster set-up I'd be more interested and I think you might find some other people who would be too. I'm just trying to give you some ideas since no one has signed up yet... [smiley=whatever.gif] |

Title: Re: Fantasy Football Frenzy- Looking for Members Post by Cirrinone on Jun 19th, 2003, 6:34pm Thanks! I appreciate it. I've found that many people are being confused by the weekly division bit. I'd have to say it wouldn't be "unfair" because everyone will get every division AT LEAST once; however, I think I may remove that bit after all. And I don't think I'm going to get rid of the cost COMPLETELY, but perhaps divide it by 2, so it's 25 bucks, and then adjust the prize money likewise. Thanks for your feedback, input, and concern. All is appreciated! I'll see what I can do about the division deal. By the way, if I get 16 loyal and active members, a live auction draft is NO PROBLEM. I've done it before and it's NOT as time-consuming as you may imagine. I got done a 12-team auction, I believe it was 15 rounds, in like 2-2 1/2 hours... perhaps less. -Jon |

I am a DIE hard football fan and not really much time for anything else (blah blah blah) but, I have always wanted to "try" a BaseBall league out. The only prob is, I don't watch baseball. Know next to nothing about it. But, doesn't mean I can't learn. Think about me for next season bud! |
