Title: KJ 76's Yahoo! Gridiron League:Draft Iz Done
Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Jun 19th, 2003, 1:02pm
Well, as I alluded to earlier in the year. I will be running a Yahoo! League with you guys interested in here.

It will be a free league, though, competitive, atleast I'm hoping it will be, because I have yet to have any worthy competition in all my years of fantasy football.  ;)

The scoring system and roster setup will be the default Yahoo! Setup.

1 QB
3 WR
2 RB
1 TE
1 DEF
1K

15 or 16 total spots.

I can change this though, if anyone wants.

Anyone interested just leave your name here, though remember, draft will be somewhere around August 28ish, that should be a weekend, and it will be an Off-Line draft, so that means we can do it here(if Steg doesn't mind) or using MSN/AIM.

Peace.

I am in.  It'll be nice to win the first league ever started on the Gridiron in that league's inaugural year.  Don't let that stop everyone else though.  It'll be good experience for you and competition should be fierce for second place.

I'm in too. I am feeling stronger now and could always use a fresh league to get into. With 9 starters though, I think we should have a few more reserve spots. the way you have it we can only have 1X qb and 3Xrb/wr/TE/DEF/K as reserves for bye weeks. That mean if you have 4 guys out that week for a bye then you have to cut a starter/stud to get a filler for that week. The NFL is having 4 teams per week with byes this year. If you have 1 guy form each team as a starter and lets say an injured guy, you have serious issues...forced to trade or cut a guy to get a full roster.
Example lets say you have Holmes, (Eddie George or William Green), Tony G, Quincy Morgan and Moulds and Trent Green on your team...They all have a bye the same week...you get my point. I just think a few more reserves. Just a thought.
Will it be a keeper league?? redraft? 3-4 man keeper? Scoring can come later.

hey if you have room, I am in.  I am new to this board, but not to FF.  I have played and run a league for the past seven years.  I am ultra competitive, and am looking for another league to talk smack in.  Let me know.   tom_salter@cree.com

I think he meant there would be spots for 13 to 14 teams... not 13 to 14 roster spots... right??

I beg to differ Philly. Who would want 13 team. That would only make the scheduling very tough. Team would have play 2 games that week, one next...too tough to maintain. I dont care if we have 10 or 12 teams. I think any more really dilutes the talent. Just my thoughts.

Yep, Dolfan, you got it, it was 13 to 14 total roster spots. This is the default setting for Yahoo!, but I'll gladly change it. 16 total spots sound better?

As for teams I figure to have 12. I think 10 is not enough because I think everyone will be just about equal, but with 12 teams the talent spreads out a bit, and draft strategy comes into play a bit.

As for a Keeper/Dynasty league or a re-draft league, I'm not sure if Yahoo! allows for a Dynasty league, but that's not to say we can't have one. Once we get the full 12 teams, we can work everything out.

I have not played in a Yahoo league before.  What is the default scoring system?  How does free agency/trading work on Yahoo?  Thanks for the info anyone.

Title: Re: KJ 76's Yahoo! Gridiron League
Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Jun 20th, 2003, 1:42am
Saltdog, to answer your questions.

Yahoo! default scoring is 6 points for a touchdown, 2 points for every 10 recieving yards, -2 points for INT, fumble lost, and so forth. Everything is fully customizable though.

As for free-agent pick ups. There is usually a Waiver Wire period after a player is dropped.

For example, let's say I dropped WR Andre Rison from my team. Let's say you and two other teams wanted to pick him up. He would go on the Waiver Wire, meaning, that within that Waiver period (which can range from 0-4 days depending what I set it on) people can "bid" for him.

The person with the lowest waiver rank (usually based on draft position, # of moves made), will get the player.

As for trading, there is usually a pending trade period, which can also range from 0-4 days, in which everyone can take a look at the trade, and see if it's fair, and I can automatically forward it through once everyone sees the deal.

BW, Walker, Steg, Philly, Cirrinone? Y'all scared?

Keep me posted.
12 is fine with me. Scoring will be crucial. There will still be a major run on RBs early/often. the key is the sleepers/backups in these leagues.
Watch out though i may shock ya and take Kitna in round 2.

Hey KJ. If there's a spot for another person I'd like to get in your league. I was talking with Dolfan this a.m. and told him that I'll be frequenting this site a lot more now that the football season is close. I haven't been a real active poster here so far but I can assure you that will change now that FF is revving up everywhere. So if I can get a spot my team name would be the Trauma Tacklers and you can e-mail me at dhumpy52@aol.com, but since the league will be on yahoo this addy should be used,DocNiner52@yahoo.com. Thanks

For those who "do not have enough time." Yahoo is quite simple to use, for those who haven't done a Yahoo league yet, and it could take as little as 2 minutes to set up your roster for the week.

It's not time consuming, just as long as you check in on your roster once a week, that should be fine.

Also, don't take the ass-whoppin' by me, to heart.  ;)

Will we stop here at 12 teams........or will we keep recruiting more victims..........12 is usally a good number of teams.........Even more so with 3 wr's in each starting line-up. You start scraping the bottom of the gene pool with 36 wr's starting. Can't wait for the season to start!

Title: Re: KJ 76's Yahoo! Gridiron League:2 more spots
Post by DOLFAN on Jun 24th, 2003, 12:06am
I think 12 teams is fine. I agree with ya on the dilution of quality talent after that.
Let's make sure we have a solid group of guys here before we get things started here. I, like most of you guys, prolly want to make sure that we have steady/consistant core of guys. Nothing against anyone personally, just trying to cover our bases ya know.
1st off i guess KJ can started by dividing us into divisions. Give us a little time to look at the site/scoring method and such. We also need to make sure that the 28th is a good time for everyone. That is right before the Labor day weekend. Most of us prolly have drafts that weekend or the one before and just want to avoid any issues. I personally have a draft on the 23rd...while i will be on vacation that week... i will be doing it on my cell phone on the ride back from FLA. I will be going to my brothers house for Labor day weekend, but can contact KJ via phone or on the net. Just a heads up. Most of us are in more than 1 league.

Not with just a Yahoo! web presence, my friend.  You need a "site of your own" for acceptance into the FFLA.  According to my "vision", the "Associated Leagues (FFLA)" section is for (already-established) leagues (with web sites) that are either invited to join or that found the FFLA and want to join; whereas, the "Gridiron Leagues" section is (going to be) for leagues that were "born here" on "the Gridiron" and just need a board.  The (original) idea behind the FFLA was to bring together that "creative" energy (that is exemplified in having a league web site)/bring together guys by way of the "creative side" of things and, actually, get away from some of the cookie-cutter stuff as best as reasonably possible.  Now, if some one of you wants to "tackle" the job of making a web site, then we can talk...  But, PLEASE KNOW that that is no small jump to make.  Maintaining a web site, especially up to the standards the FFLA guys, including me, would like to see, is no small task, i.e., don't just throw somethin' up on the web and think that's enough.  There is a "formal" voting process of all the commissioners/webmasters of the other FFLA leagues involved.  With that said, go for it, you bunch of eager [smiley=beaver.gif]'s!

The first thing of course, is finding one more member to joing up, if no one else signs up for this before I leave.

Secondly, I would need someone to gather up everyone's e-mails for me,sometime near late july-beginning of august , and send it to me at this adress. emnmsindahead@yahoo.com

From there, I will try checking my e-mail from an internet cafe and send out an e-mail to everyone. Hopefully by that time, no one has died on me or vanished, and Yahoo! leagues will be opened up.

I will send more details in that e-mail.

Thanks.

It even has an interesting acronym FEAYGL (pronounced like f-eagle).  Hmmmmmmmm... or it could be FUGLY (First Uver Gridiron League at Yahoo).  That would be interesting if it ever got into FFLA - all of us with FUGLYer nametags.

Ok, well I'm leaving for Spain this Wednesday and I need one of you's to do me a favor while I'm away.

Thanks.

Awww... dude...  This fairly small detail about a league I am not even participating in is DEFINITELY going to get lost in the shuffle of my life over the next month.  Can one of you other guys take care of reminding Philly about this?  DirkDiggler, DOLFAN, bgsgfan, BarnabyWilde, etc., etc.,...?

Sorry, brother!  I'm just bein' straight with ya's!  I just don't want to be responsible for an important thing that could cause the league to fall apart! :-[

Yahoo! Fantasy Football is up and running and accepting leagues.  I emailed KJ76 to tell him to go in and set up our league at his earliest convenience.

As soon as everything is set up, I will send everyone an email (or private message if I don't have your email) with the league name and password so you can register.

If anyone finds that they are unable to stay in this league, please let me know ASAP so we can find a replacement.

I believe we are drafting offline, so KJ would just have to input the picks once we're done...
.................................

I went back and checked and here's the info:

Quote:
remember, draft will be somewhere around August 28ish, that should be a weekend, and it will be an Off-Line draft, so that means we can do it here(if Steg doesn't mind) or using MSN/AIM.

..................................

I emailed KJ and told him to set things up, but haven't heard back from him yet.  If I don't hear anything by the end of the month, I'll set things up on his behalf, but I'm sure he'll check in before then.

I hope enough guys will be able to draft at that time. I think most of us will be available. I will be. The 28th is a Thursday and 2 days later is Labor day weekend and some guys may be out of town or on vacation. I'm just putting a heads up since we really haven't heard anything about this league. We need to keep staying in touch with each other. Does anybody know when KJ gets back from Spain?

DOLFAN has not signed up - though he's been active around here.  Check your private messages for the league info - I'll resend it right now.

FourTwoOh has now signed up as a replacement.

Bob Oswego is on vacation, so I don't know his status right now.

RAYven Lewis was around a lot for the playoff challenge that 420 ran, so I'd like to give him a chance to reply.

Lobo237 has not posted since the time he expressed interest in the league, so I'll assume that 420 just took his place.

I am assuming that one spot may still be open, Is this a live draft?

I may have the room for one more league, not sure yet
Gotta sort some things out

Pats Camp and Giants Camp was terrific...Patriots players were great with the kids including my son especially Joe Andrussi

Offence

Kevin Faulk RB, Daniel Graham TE, and Troy Brown WR were all top performers and extremely hard workers at practice, for the Giants, Tim Carter WR is very very fast and Shockey is a horse, also Collins looked sharp however the O line is slow

Defence

Patriots Lb Bruschi is tremendous as well as Poole and Colvert, I also like their secondary and rookie Klecko is a quick study

For the GMen Strahan is the man as well Barrow and young Mallard at LB worked tirelessly and Will Allen is a definite star in the making

Patriots have great chemistry and atmosphere at their camp

Will be in touch soon

hey all, finally got the opportunity to check in here from spain.

it´s been great here. incredibly hot, there was a huge heat wave that affected the whole country only a few weeks ago and temperatures were near the 100s. all in all, been having a good time, getting drunk and all, lol.

anyways, regarding the draft, and 12 or 10 people.
if we can not get the full 12 to sign up. i will kick out two people or one, the one´s that are the least inactive, of coure.

the draft, im not sure im gonig to be able to make it that day, so i´ve decided that maybe we can conduct our own draft using MSN, AOL, or here on the Gridiron. My flight doesn´t arrive till 7 or 8ish PM, so i will arrive really late. if you all don´t mind having a vote and switching it to either friday, saturday, or sunday, instead of that Thursday, it would be great.

i will try fixing the statistical categories a.s.a.p , hopefully to everyone´s likings.

good to see people interested in this, and the Gridiron still going strong. I´ll be back soon, fellas, don´t you worry. lol  :P

Geez... I don't know if I'll be available for a live draft on any of those days.  It's a holiday weekend and I know my wife has already scheduled some things for us.

I know auto-draft doesn't always work out, but maybe that would be our best option at this point.

I agree.  Autodraft isn't bad if EVERYONE does it that way.  When it really sucks is when you use it and everyone else is live - you get your kicker then before any backups.

If we do it live Monday morning 9/1 would be fine for me as I get off work at 7a.m. However we have to remember that's a holiday. I'm fine if everyone wants to do an autodraft. It's not like we're playing for big bucks or anything. As was said, if we do an autodraft we need to have everyone agree to do it that way. I'm fine though with whatever the majority wants.

Lets try to get it started here. The CBFL went pretty quick and maybe we can punch through this thing before next Thursday. It was ORIG going to be on the 28th. I'm also still good with that too. keep me posted and get this thing rolling.

I'm afraid this league is doomed from the start...

Our commish scheduled a draft for a day he isn't even going to be around.  We have 11 teams.  No one seems to be able to re-schedule the draft in a way that will meet everyone's needs...

I know that I will not be able to draft much (if at all) on a holiday weekend.  I was able to set aside a few hours on Thursday afternoon/evening, but that was blown to hell.

We don't even have a scoring system yet.  KJ only clicked things to get the league opened up for new signups.  He said he would discuss it with us and alter it to meet everyone's preferences.  Unfortunately that gives us almost no time to rank players.

I'm beginning to think that we should just scrap this whole thing because it is making my head hurt when I try to think how/when we will draft.

Title: Re: KJ 76's Yahoo! Gridiron League:Now Full, Need
Post by bgsgfan on Aug 25th, 2003, 9:22am
Lets look at a possible solution before we scrap this.

1. Draft - Have it as an autodraft that Monday night.  This will give everyone time to setup their draft lists and it will be fair since no-one will be live.  Definitely not as fun as a live draft, but it will work.

2. Scoring - on the very first post, KJ said he would set it up as default Yahoo.  Looking at the current league settings, it does not look to be default.  Here is what I think is default (or very close to it):

Quote:
Statistical Categories (Offense):
Passing Yards (25 yards per point)
Passing Touchdowns (4)
Interceptions (-1)
Rushing Yards (10 yards per point)

Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Reception Yards (10 yards per point)
Reception Touchdowns (6)
Return Touchdowns (6)
2 Point Conversions (2)
Fumbles Lost (-1)

Statistical Categories (Kickers):
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3)
Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3)
Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3)
Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4)
Field Goals 50+ Yards (5)
Point After Attempt Made (1)

Statistical Categories (Defense Teams):
0 Pts Allowed (10)
1-6 Pts Allowed (7)
7-13 Pts Allowed (4)
14-20 Pts Allowed (1)
21-27 Pts Allowed (0)
28-34 Pts Allowed (-1)
35+ Pts Allowed (-4)
Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)

*Note - I bolded what I changed from how it is now.

As for the # of teams, let yahoo deal with that.  It'll set up an adequate schedule even for an odd number.

I am not commish, or even commish's helper, but I believe if we can agree on the above draft and scoring we should be ok.

The only thing I would want to change would be the QB TD's should be 6 points, not 4 points.  I think the TD's should be the ame for all positions.

If people don't mind doing a draft here, we have an entire week to get through it before the holiday weekend. Or we can Auto Draft. I'd hate to see this league not make it, despite all the problems. Should we vote? Does anyone have contact with the Commish?

The Commish is still overseas, with no internet connection, and won't be back until sometime Thursday night.

I like bgsgfan's proposal and scoring system (sorry Tony, but 6 point passing TDs really makes QBs too valuable in my opinion although I usually play with that system).

I also think we should just plan on everyone doing an autodraft.  Rank our players based on the scoring system that bgsgfan suggested and go from there.  I might be able to get a 12th person if we need one.

Guess, who's back?

it seems there's a little problem with the league and the draft.

I don't mind making it auto-pick draft, but wouldn't mind hearing out everyone first on how and what we should do.

also if someone could "Clear" me up about what other problems we have the league would be nice. :P

Welcome back!

Problems:

1. Scoring.  Before we draft or enter or rankings to predraft, need to set the scoring in stone.  Above is my suggestion, based on you saying standard scoring would be used.  Its just a suggestion, I am OK with anything, but would like to hear it ASAP.

2. Draft.  At this point, I think we should autodraft, and at as late a point as possible.  Maybe Wednesday?

3. Participation.  Need to make sure everyone is aware of what is going on and ready to be active.

None of the above is a real problem, we just need direction and soon. :)

Welcome back KJ - hope you had a good time in Spain.

Anyway, bgsgfan pretty much wrapped it up in his post.  I think his suggested scoring is perfect.  I think we should all do an autodraft for this year.  And we currently have 10 teams, which is fine, but we can get a couple more if needed.

I agree with bgsgfan about the scoring. Also, I was just looking back through the posts and I didn't see anything that talked about whether there will be keepers or not. It might be there and I just missed it, seeing as it is 11:45pm right now and I'm exhausted. But, I wanted to just get some clarification as to whether we are having them or not, and if so, how many.

I'm really looking forward to this league. It'll be my first time competing with all of you and I can't wait.

ok took care of the scoring.

made it an auto-pick draft.

hopefully atleast having 6-8 active owners shouldn't be to much of a hassle. if you all think we should get two more i can find them.

Hmm, I think when I set this thing up, I said we would decide before the season whther it woulde be a keeper, re-draft, or 3-4 man keeper. Any thoughts on this?

Here's an idea which I've never done, but heard of other people doing...

The league could be a keeper league without any set number of keepers.  But for every player you keep next year, you lose a draft pick.  You keep one player, you lose your first round pick.  You keep three players, you lose your first, second, and third round picks...

Title: Re: KJ 76's Yahoo! Gridiron League:Now Full, Need
Post by BarnabyWilde on Aug 29th, 2003, 9:19am
This may be hard in an auto draft, but I have seen leagues where if you keep a player, you lose the draft pick of the round you took that player in. Example:

I took Toomer in the 3rd, and I am keeping him, thus I lose my 3rd round pick.

Last year, in one of my leagues, Clinton Portis was taken in the 9th round, and subsequently cut after the 2nd week.  I grabbed him off waivers before week three.  Now I decide to make him one of my keepers - I shouldn't lose a pick, since I didn't draft him... or, at the very least, I lose a 9th round pick for a top 3 player??

I've heard of that type of keeper league, but it isn't very equitable in my opinion.

I'm in a 3-player keeper league where you are not allowed to keep the person you drafted in the first round. It's actually worked out pretty well over time, given how quickly the best players can move in and out of the top 10.

Also, I've never done an autodraft before and I'm not sure what I need to do to rank my players. Could someone let me know? Thanks a lot.

Currently the league is set on Off-Line draft, I have yet to change it to an automatic draft. Once I change it to an auto-draft, a link on your own team page to "RANK MY PLAYERS" or something like that, should appear. From there I think the instructions they give you are pretty clear.

Title: Re: KJ 76's Yahoo! Gridiron League:Beginning Short
Post by bgsgfan on Aug 29th, 2003, 3:34pm
I like this keeper system (that rewards for good drafting):  Unlimited keepers, but you lose your pick 2 rounds higher than where the player was drafted.  Therefore, no players from the first 2 rounds are able to be kept; if you keep a player that was drafted in the 3rd round, you lose your first round choice; 4th round, you lose your 2nd round pick; etc.  Waiver pickups are considered last round if undrafted, trades/waivers that originally were drafted keep the value of the round they originally went in.  If you want to keep more than one player from one round you can give up your next available higher round (you want to keep 2 10th rounders, you can give up your 8th and 9th round picks the following year).

The only thing that I would suggest is that if this is going to be a keeper league, let's start the keeper draft next year when we can actually have a say in who we draft. To use a automatic draft and then have that set up our keepers seems a little unfair.

Title: Re: KJ 76's Yahoo! Gridiron League:Beginning Short

1 point for every 15 yards rushing?  1 point for every 20 yards receiving?

Seems like this system is designed to really undervalue WRs - especially if we are starting 3 of them each week.

Why not the standard:

1-25 passing
1-10 rushing/receiving
4 pts passing TD
6 pts rush/catch TD

??

You can only rank players, not set the rounds you want the position to be picked in.

Go to My Team, and under your team name and statistical record it should say Edit Pre-Rankings or something like that.

I messed up.  I missed getting Dunn off free agents by a few seconds, then hurried to get my next highest ranked RB, Hearst.  I was in such a hurry that I dropped Tampa Bay instead of new England.  :'(

I tried hitting back and stop as soon as I hit submit, but it was too late and Tampa is now sitting on waivers.

I would like to appeal to all of you, obviously I did not mean to drop Tampa; is it fair to ask KJ to put Tampa back on my team in place of New England?

While I'm sure this may lead to some debate, the last official word for KJ about keepers was that we would have 3, and they can't be your first round pick. Which means the following players can't be kept: Holmes, LT2, Portis, Faulk, Alexander, Williams, Taylor, Henry, McAllister, and Harrison.

I know some people seem pretty frustrated. I did fairly well, with Faulk and Ahman Green as my starters, and Eric Moulds, Amani Toomer, and Chad Johnson as WRs.

Guys, and this goes for GBRFL2 as well, long story short, cable bill doesn't get paid by roomie, they actually shut it off! The nerve! ::) So I'm a library poster for a bit. Plan to make it buy twice a day, but once a day for certain. Patience if you have a specific question for me.

Well i missed dropping James Stewart by a few mintes myself. With him being on IR he should never have been drafted. Shouldn't i have had 1st pick in free agency?

How do the waivers work TMRW? I like some guys on the waiver wire myself, not on Free agency. Hell i didn't even know that we could do free agency. I was the 1st to discover the draft had been completed, saw that free agency was avail, but didn't make any moves for fear that it was a mistake and too many guys would get pissed that i took players before anyone else knew they were there.
What should we do now???
I'm not complaining, just would like to know how we plan on dealing with this. Let it ride, or what?

Well the Transactions that have been made are already done , so put in your request for waiver guys in now.........your ranking will decide which guys you get. The teams that have already made moves will be on the bottom of the rankings. Just realize you only get one pick at a time so rank the moves accordingly.

Only thing I can say is, tough luck. No one had mentioned to wait until everyone knew the draft had been done, though, everyone DID know that the draft could be done by today 'till Friday.

It may be a bit 'un-fair' that you didn't pick up anyone that you could have had in fear of everyone else's reaction, but there was no reason why you shouldn't have had, no one stated anything on that matter, or atleast that's my opinion on this.  I dunno what everyone else thinks.

Now on the dropping of the Tampa Bay D, 'accidentally.'  I don't mind giving you back the DEF, bgs, but I say it was your fault for dropping them, no one else's. Though, it's the public's decision, not my on this one.

Agreed that it was my fault, and I will live with whatever decision is made.

As much as I would like to use the services of the best D in NFL HISTORY, I'll give the DEF back to you.

Though let this be a warning to all, I will not do the same again.

Steg, I sent you a PM.  :-*
