Title: Anybody use the Huddle here?
Post by saltdog on Jun 26th, 2003, 1:51pm
Hey I have been using the Huddle for several years now, and I think it is a good site.  However the message boards there tend to be mostly useless jabber.  This site seems much more useful with regards to the posts.  Are there any further advantages to this site in the near future, or is it mostly planned for forum use?

First, with regards to theHuddle.com, when they went pay, I went away. [smiley=jammaster.gif] [smiley=groove.gif] With regards to their boards, that was actually the first FF forum I ever joined.  I found it to be a rather mean-spirited environment.  From there my FF forum experiences went up-and-down until I got fed up and struck out on my own and here we are.

For one, this is a work in progress.  I do have grandiose plans for things, and if you checked your intial greeting in your "Gridiron Private Messages" (link is in the upper right-hand corner of your screen), you might remember a link to a thread "Must Reads, especially for newcomers", which can be found on "the Sidelines" (I think about three-quarters of the way down page 1 at this point).  Since you are even taking the time to ask this question, I would REALLY advise your perusing through that stuff.  You will come away from it all with a better idea as to what is up here.  Bottom line, if you are looking for a different kind of FF experience from the usual and are into watching a site evolve from nothing into something and being part of, i.e. substantively affecting (within a framework, of course), the growth of said site, this place is for you.  If you are looking for the finished product, just want to ride in the back seat, so to speak, and observe the "drivel-fest" and don't mind pop-up ads galore, the experience this place has to offer may not be what you are looking for.  That having been said, you have checked out some of our other features that already exist, right?  E.g.:

"the Gridiron Newsstand" & "The REAL Feed" -
http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm;

Our sparse, but slowly developing "Fantasy Articles" section -
http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/fantasyarticles.htm;

The GBRFL home page, where you will find information about a unique type of league I may someday run on a grander scale here...  I am actually dipping my toes in the low-end this year by running the GBRFL2, a FREEBIE -
http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/;

The CBFL home page, where you will find info on another type of league I may someday run on a grander scale, and of which spin-offs like BW's IDP league are already popping up (as well as spin-offs on other sites... just know in whose head that was born, though) -
http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cbfl/;

And, then, there is the "Fantasy Football League Alliance" (FFLA) project, which fits into things somehow, I think... hope (if you happen to have a league site, I would suggest looking into this) -
http://www.geocities.com/naffliu/Partner.html.

With regards to the "Grand [smiley=jammaster.gif] Master Plan" I have for this place, I am not going to show my cards any more than that.  If you go about doing your homework, sifting through threads here, you'll get a pretty good picture of what I am up to.

NOW, I would love to hear some of the dudes who are "on board" (with me) here explain what they perceive is up with this site in their own words... why they were drawn here... what they would like to see come of this place someday..., etc., etc.,...

I liked the camaraderie that came about on another forum.  I really liked some people and learned a lot about FF.  Eventually I came to get disgusted with the juvenile behavior and the cavalier attitude shown by many posters.  I would prepare a long well thought out response to someone and others would say something like "blah blah blah - I gave up trying to read what you were saying".

At the same time I noticed several threads Steggie was using over there to promote this site (in an indirect way).  The way he was treated on those threads drove me nuts and over the edge (literally - I am now insane).

I like indepth analysis.  I have a tendency to be verbose.  I like someone who takes an active interest in their endeavors.  The whole idea of entreprenuership is romantic to me (not that kind of romantic  [smiley=hooters.gif]).  Its not too difficult to see why I love this place.

Then to make it even better, here is someone obviously trying very hard to make this as great a place as possible.  Any type of problem he will pay attention to.  it is so refreshing after dealing with practically invisible moderators/fuhrers.

I still go over to that other site - lots of good people there.  I will even post over there once in a while.  But if I had my way they would come here and I could be done with that whole place.
