Title: Spice it Up! Post by KillerKingSting on Jul 29th, 2003, 8:51pm Your the head coach of your team right? Maybe a little bored of the basic scoring system? Want a little more control? This is for the basic/preformance type scoring leagues that are looking for something other than adding IDPs to their roster to soice up their game. Assuming you already run different offensive formations in your league (hence 4 wide, 3 wide etc..) why not tweek it a little more by adding some personality to those formations. Such as the 2-TE , 1 Back set. It stretches out the Dline doesn't it? The front-7 on a defense has to defend the WHOLE line of scrimage instead of just the strong side etc. Its a strong running formation with a balanced Offensive line. So what would be the advantage of starting an extra TE in FF in lue of that oh so very important 2nd RB? Since this is a strong running form give your single back 1 pt per 8 yards per rushing for the change in formation. Also, give points to your TEs for receptions in this form and if you already do that then, increase them a bit. What about the 4-wide 1 back? Really spreads out the D-backs & LBs of the defense right? Give your WRs 1 pt per 8 yards receiving & 1 pt per 15 yds passing (or 20 yards passing if you originally give 1/25 yds). But also, since the QB has virtually NO protection in this form, give negative points for anytime he gets sacked or throws an interception. You get the idea right? There is a limitless number of things you can do even with the most basic line-up out there. You could even include formations within personael sets like, the I-Formation or the Split Back set which caters more towards the west coast offensive style receiving HB. Your imagination is the limit here. And what about subsitutions? Thats right! Play WR "a" in the 1st thru 3rd quarters and in the 4th quarter, sub him out for an entirely different WR. Or for that matter, maybe another player of a different position entirely. Our league used to go to extremes with ideas like this to the point where we had alot of fun with it. One year we even made something totally off the wall and called it the "Extremeity Extractor Machine". This rule allowed us to extract differtent parts of a player's body and FUSE them onto another player of the same position. It may sound a little weird but it was fun. For example : Owners would be scrambling on draft day to get someone like Peyton Manning & Micheal Vick so that they would be allowed to play Vicks Running stats along with Manning's passing stats as ONE player. In other words, Vicks legs & Manning's arms. The fusion into one player. Imagine Ricky Williams with Garner's hands? Really, your imagination has no limits. If your looking to spice things up a bit then, try some of these rules and see how you like em. By the way, this can also be added to the IDP game as well for all you hardcore FF guys out there (just like me!!) Hope you enjoyed this post. |

Title: Re: Spice it Up! Post by Philly on Jul 29th, 2003, 9:17pm Player fusion? I want LaDanian Tomlinson's legs and Marvin Harrison's arms. ;D Those are some interesting ideas KKS... I can't imagine they would go over too well in my league - we're pretty intense and we're all old school. Did you do this because you were getting bored with basic scoring? I can't imagine all the work the commish would have to do for this though. [smiley=howtoput.gif] |

Title: Re: Spice it Up! Post by KillerKingSting on Jul 30th, 2003, 7:57am Tomlinson & Harrison? Now thats an Ultra-Back!!!!!!!! Your giving me ideas here Philly!! [smiley=gotanidea.gif] That could be a dangerous thing, LOL. I would say "bored" was probably too strong of a word I used and a most innaccurate one. When I started tinkering with things it was more out of my creative nature than anything else. Watching games and foaming at the mouth with all the formation variations and differtent schemes etc etc,........I was jealous dammnit!!! [smiley=angel.gif] and so, did something to fill my appetite. First one we tried was the 4-wide and since the QB obviously will probably throw more in that formation, you were able to play 1 and a half QBs (2nd QB would count as first or second half of his ball game). It went over well, and we went from there. Anyway, your right though. It came to be a stat nightmare for me since I was the do-it-all commish. But as long as I kept it to a minimum, it wasn't all that bad. [smiley=jawdroppin.gif] |

Title: Re: Spice it Up! Post by PrimeTime on Jul 31st, 2003, 10:40pm Wow! Thats a great (and original) idea. I would be willing to give it a try. My suggestion would be to find a web site to run the league on and see what options they give you for IDP scoring. You don't want to try to calculate the scoring by hand. |
