Title: How to KEEP your keeper league stocked with Owners
Post by KillerKingSting on Aug 4th, 2003, 5:49am
I would like to start this thread and hopefully get some creative ideas from all over in regards to being able to supplement a Keeper or Dynasty league when owners all of a sudden up & quit.

I'll start it off with this idea.

Go to other web sites, get to know the commish and/or other owners in other Keeper leagues and make pacts/deals with them.
Make a 2-way agreement with various owners from other leagues in that you & he/she will act as temorary subs for any members of both keeper leagues in that a replacement can't be found in due time.

Now many of you all who already play in alot of leagues will have to obviously cut back ONE league in order for this to work.

But the advantages of this deal are numerous.

First, you get a guaranteed owner to start in a vacant and abandoned spot in which you will be frantically trying to fill  - no worrys, you now have insurance!

Second, the owner you do get (albeit temporary for a season) will be more than likely a good one, and therefore keep the competitive edge going with the team he inherits so that, when you do actually find your repalcement, the team inherited, isn't a mess that the previous sbandoned owner left it in (which is probably 90% of the reason that owner quit in the first place because of how poorly his/her team was doing).

Obviously the downside of this is that you have to provide the same availibility in case the "other" keepr league is or does come up with a vacant spot.

But all in all , its the buddy system amongst respectable Keeper league groupies and you guys/girls, take care of your own so to speak.

Don't forget, this isn't a "forever" type of deal. The league you are providing a replacement will have to find a suitable owner for the next season or even before the next season. But at least, it doesn't leave you high and dry trying to replace an owner who left his team in shambles, which just might be , near to impossible to acheieve on a limited time basis.

:P

Lets hear [smiley=footballsmiley.gif] some other ideas out there!

Obviously you try and stop this from happening BEFORE it starts by getting to know the people you're playing with... then and ONLY then should you start a Keeper league. The better you know someone, the less likely they are to bail out on you, and even if they did, you could probably still guilt them in to completing the season... but that doesn't answer your question.

If I were in a Keeper league and someone bailed, I would hope that there were some predetermined rules as to how to handle the situation (which is probably why you made this post in the first place...) I don't think a short term owner is the answer. Like you said, chances are this person will inherit a bad team and what kind of motivation will he/she really have? Would you give him/her the power to make trades and drops? What about the waiver wire? Bringing in another person on a short term basis would raise too many questions and give an "outsider" the chance to further degrade the already damaged integrity of the league. If we couldn't find a permanent replacement, I would expect the commissioner of the league to handle the situation by starting the abandoned team's best line up every week based on the scoring of the league. No trades, no waiver acquisitions and no drops... just start the best lineup and finish out the season.

I have had some turnover over the years in the QFL, but have never had a problem filling the open spots. I have even had a waiting list. Luckily, we have had no turnover in about 4 or 5 years...

I know this is just a bit off-topic, but I did not want to start a new thread just to make this comment/plea of sorts and this thread seemed appropriate enough.

To hell with the discussion about how to keep guys...  We gots three great leagues formin' here on "the Gridiron", the GBRFL2, KKS's neat IDP-only league, and KJ 76's FAGLY ([smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif]), ALL one member short and, hence, stuck. [smiley=no.gif] Perhaps, a little mission out into the netherworlds of FF boards might be necessary. ;D
